You made a good point until your last comment. Given what we know now, I don't think anyone here would take Smart over Jones. Moreover, it's not like Smart is taking over a depleted, under-talented roster at UGA. The UT football program, at the time of Jones' appointment, was also struggling with several significant issues. Jones wasn't the first guy in the list, but I wouldn't trade him for many in the country.

Dantonio is considered to be on the Tressel coaching tree. Most of the successful coaches on the Saban tree are offensive minded coaches. Its no secret Bama's Defense is his baby. That's why he gets amazing Coordinators like Jimbo and Mcelwain to head his offense. Defensive coaches from Saban are questionable. We will see soon if Kirby was a puppet and just a figure head for Saban or the real deal. We shall see... (I think he'll fail)

UGA will lose to UNC, @Mizz or @USC (I think Muschamp has one big shocking upset in him early next year and you never know at Missouri), @Ole Miss, TN, UF and GT.

Kirby would be in HOT water with a 6-6 start.

Claiming 6 is Bear Bryant screaming "if the local grocery store" names us champs, then we are champs. AU now wants to claim 9 titles instead of 2. UGA could claim 6 if they wanted as could GT if they wanted. They are called Mythical National Championships for a reason.

Only 1 NC under Bryant is debated; 1973. Bama went 11-0 in the regular season and was named NC's. Then lost their bowl game, so polls changed in 1974 to awarding the NC after bowl games. The debated ones are pre-1940 under Frank Thomas and Wallace Wade.

Ha ha. We had our worst 5 year stretch in program history, yet, in 4 of those years, we lost in one possession games.

Actually, our kind of thinking may have hit rock bottom (by firing Fulmer), but it allowed us to hire Butch Jones. Your line of thinking had the same coach for 15 years who couldn't win a championship with year after year of pro level talent. Worry about your own program. See you in Athens, where the only time I attended a game, we were a 12.5 point underdog to the 3rd ranked team. Ended up pretty well.

Great game! Especially after the debacle that waws the AU game the week before.
