1. Richt had two streaks against us. One was in the worst stretch of UT football in a generation. Once Fulmer figured him out, he was easily beatable. Once Butch got enough talent, he was easily Once Butch got enough talent, he was easily beatable.

not sure I follow your logic. Mark Richt only beat UT when he had better teams than UT? Does that mean that his record wasn't really 10-5 vs TN? What's the frequency, Kenneth?.

2. Yes, someone like Dabo, or more likely someone like Fuentes.

If they were so available, why didn't UT hire them rather than Butch Jones. He wasn't such a hot commodity and not UT's first choice by any means.

3. Name me the last coordinator who's first HC gig was at an SEC school and won a NC.

Phil Fulmer? What's your point? Don't all HCs start as coordinators?
4. You're a troll.

You're 12?

I don't recall bringing up any fear factor. Some of you keep that subject going. Makes me wonder. Why do you say the hire has FAIL written all over it? Give me some facts. And we've already gone over the "Saban assistants" thing. Tell me a head coach in all of CFB who has more successful former assistants.

Meyer has Mullen, Whittingham, Doc Holiday, Strong and Herman. DJ Durkin as well is another newbie. His guys trounce Saban's tree.

Name a defensive assistant under Saban that's been a good HC.

I'm not gonna argue Saban's tree vs Meyer's, but the answer to your question is Dantonio, though others have argued that he could technically qualify as being under someone like Jim Tressel's tree from his Youngstown State days (FTR, Tressel was an offensive guy anyway).

But yeah, Dantonio has been the most successful defensive assistant to work under Saban this far.

I always ruled him as a Tressel guy personally. But that's one out of all the flops Saban puts out.

Pruitt- was a fake at FSU. He took over a top 5 defense that was already intact. We exposed him at UGA and so did Alabama.

Dooley- worst coach in Tennessee history

Muschamp- had one good season

McElwain- Must prove he isn't a one hit wonder

Sunseri- horrible DC

Meyer's guys are much better overall and will continue to be better. Saban seems to be too much of a dictator for his assistants to learn how to run their own program.

We all wanted Richt to stay because we matched up well with his style and could beat him. Successful enough to keep his job, yet vulnerable enough for us to take over the series.
Wasn't Mark Richt 10-5 vs Tennessee? :ermm:
Georgia could've done so much better than Smart. A proven and tested head coach could've taken it to unseen heights.
Like who? I've seen someone on here say Dabo Swinney. Do any of you really think he would leave a program like Clemson to come to UGA? Especially given the success he's had there! Mighty flattering of you, but who's to say that Kirby Smart won't take UGA to "unseen heights".
And one more thing. This is a Tennessee board. If you don't like the opinions and responses you're getting, feel free to take the rest of your yapping trolls with you and start your own website.
Is this not a public forum? I've been here since '08. Hardly a troll.

Dawg, I think the big hire that UGA really wanted had to be Tom Herman. His offense at OSU ate up that great defense at Bama for several big plays. He then goes down to Houston and lights it up.

I think Smart is going to do fine at UGA because of the talent that that state produces year-in and year-out without any competition in-state for those same recruits. He'll always have 9-10 wins year for that reason alone. Whether he can take it up a notch to consistently beat UF and play in the SEC championship and then eventually win a NC is the question. I really can't imagine a better scenario for doing that than the HC job at UGA.

I can't believe there's no TV coverage until late in the day. I'd take Thursday and Friday off to watch if it was on.

I don't understand this about the 4 majors. There should be TV coverage from the 1st tee shot struck on Thursday morning until the crowning of the champion on Sunday evening.

Don't the other 3 offer all day coverage?

The masters doesn't because of some elitist policy is the way I understand it

What is our record after the bama game realistically? Really excited about this next football season, but also fearful of the injury bug hitting us during the season at key positions such as at safety where we have plenty of talent but little experience outside of TKJR. Will our O-Line improve as much as we saw this past year? Who will be our go to third and medium receiver? What will our offense evolve into as the season goes on after a full season on tape running the ball? Who will be our 3rd linebacker on running down situations? I'm a die hard VOLS fan and will be at the orange and white game this year with a big group of guys for a bachelor party weekend so need some ideas on where to go to in the gatlinburg, Knoxville area. Thanks and love this board and the MODS who keep it running. GBO

I think we may have kicked the tires with Herman to make it look like it was a search. But think about it. Why would McGarity fire Richt when he did? We have the #1 QB in the country lined up to come and play for Richt and we fire him after a 9 win season just because? It was because Spurrier resigned from USCe and McGarity knew that Smart was #1 on their list. McGarity has had his eye on Kirby for quite some time and knew that he had to pull the trigger. There's a lot more to the story than most know (the Jeremy Pruitt vs Mark Richt incident, etc.). McGarity did the right thing and, IMHO, made an exceptional hire in Smart. Time will tell, but all of the characteristics are there for a successful HC.
