Did you see the recent SECN segment on the Vols and McElroy sat down with Dobbs in the film room? I agree that Dobbs has struggled some passing, especially the outs and verticals. But they showed this exact play, and McElroy praised him for the throw. Dobbs tried to say that Smith made a great play, but McElroy slowed it down and basically said it was thrown in a window where only our guy could catch it. Sometimes our fans criticize things that outsiders view as better than we think.
Edit: Did not see above before I posted.
I'd only be concerned about our replacement coach. I don't trust the AD to hire a proven winner and open the piggy bank up
I'll disagree to an extent. I think Hart has done a good job of getting the AD finances back on track and would be more inclined to spend a little money, if needed, this time around.
Might be wishful thinking on my part, though.
The last part.
I have little faith in our AD, Hart specifically. He backed into Jones, is fortunate to still have a job after he botched Tindall, then finally made a good hire with Barnes, all the while simultaneously making a charade out of the Lady Vols.
I'd have more confidence in David Blackburn.
Just sayin...
Shoop may have it in him to be a great HC but he'd have to produce a top 5 D this year for me to feel good about that coming to fruition.
If Butch jumps to the NFL we'd be one of the most attractive HC openings in the last decade because of the talent and depth that he's assembled and the very real possibility of being playoff contenders again. I'd much rather see if we could land our Harbaugh or Saban rather than our Kirby Smartt or Brent Venebles.
Not really.
Took Schiano 6 years to build up Rutgers in a weak conference, and he was unable to truly sustain the success.
Butch has UT preseason top 10 in 4 years after taking over the program while it was in its worst state since the late 70s with a roster comparable to Kentucky's.
If he delivers this season, there's no question in my mind that he's a better coach than Schiano (who, BTW, had 3 wins over ranked teams in 11 years at Rutgers).
I certainly wouldn't trade him for Schiano right now, even after the early season meltdowns of the 2015 season and the 2016 season still undecided.
1. Butch hasn't accomplished anything yet. Let's start with that. Last time I checked, the preseason polls aren't out yet, and even if they were, they are about as important as a piece of toilet paper.Took Schiano 6 years to build up Rutgers in a weak conference, and he was unable to truly sustain the success.
