Intersting take on the poor OL play on scout today. They are suggesting the snap count is exactly the same on all plays and allows DL to get big jumps.

Here is a post I made a week ago. I brought it up but I think most people, including myself, really want to ignore it or hope that this isn't true....

One piece of Jerry's game preview stuck out to me.....

Stuff like this (refusing to change) bugs me to death about CBJ....

How Butch Jones prepares Josh Dobbs/ Quinten Dormandy for this will be critical. In the past, Butch Jones’ slow developing ‘zone reads’ have struggled against defenses that can apply pressure while also timing the snap count. Historically, Tennessee will not alter its tempo or snap count and will not audible at the line of scrimmage regardless of the who has played QB for the Vols in recent years. This has played a critical factor for the Vols in recent contests…particularly against the Sooners and Gators in 2015 & 2014. Both teams were able to time the Snap Count of the Vols and disrupt their offense.

Alright folks, if you haven't ever listened to this epic rant...do so now. And even if you have, it never gets old! This is a rant from the local Michigan State radio guy from 2006 when MSU choked away a big lead to Notre Dame. Since this weekend is the 10 year anniversary I think every CFB fan should listen, so share with friends!

It's a long listen but worth every second...

Hilarious...love the part where he talks about getting old asses out of their seats

Only difference I've seen between this year and last is opportunity.

I can tell a difference. He got beat a few times last year by, granted, some elite play makers, but that interception in game 1 and the PBU in game 2 both looked future-pro level to me... More like his 2 years ago than last year.

Seems like Butch would read some of these articles about snap count and maybe adjust it. That's too much to ask of Butch I'm sure. I hate that he is so stubborn even when the problems are so clear to everyone even opposing teams. Also, Chris Low saying Kirkland out 3-4 weeks. If that's true Butch was sounding very optimistic on Monday or straight out lying. I get he doesn't want to give our opponents too much info but good grief. Hoping for the best but the injury looked awful and if he was able to come back sooner I would be shocked.

Ziti,

I know we did use some audibles against va tech which shocked me. Is that something we did at all last year? I don't remember it if we did

You gotta be able to make the right calls. Those that are mentioned can't make them. Jumper has been in the system awhile and even though he may not be the fastest, he's got the cerebral part down.

Then call the plays from the sideline or have JRM do it. Jumper is terrible! It can't be that hard to call a play from elsewhere. Good thing Vickers caused the fumble from behind on that play cause Jumper completely whiffed. Threw 1 arm at his thigh as he went running by rather than breaking down.

Oh that's good....but not as good as the crying UGA fan:

Seems like #22 is making it difficult for Evan Berry to get on the field. And from what I've seen from Abernathy, I'm not surprised. I believe he leads for Berry on kickoffs, and he looks as fast or maybe faster than Berry. I've been very impressed.

This was obviously not the case in the VT game. Dobbs clapped, then audibled, then clapped some more and snapped multiple times.

I think we are seeing some of the problems with THUD and whatever other methods the coaches are using to limit contact in practice. If you aren't going %100, then the smart player who consistently reads the offense correctly gets the nod. But when you are going %101, or the other team is playing harder than your own team does during practice, then you get exposed.

I will not be surprised if Jumper is out there a lot on Saturday.

My best case scenario is that the first three games of this season have been/will be a smoke screen designed to completely derail Florida's game planning and get us a couple of touchdowns advantage. I'd personally rather us practice doing what we want to do and let them try to stop us.

Nope, not possible. CBJ is too stubborn or dumb to notice a snap count problem. In fact, we send a memo to the defense before each snap to let them know exactly when we will snap the ball.

I'd be pretty optimistic if someone told me Kirkland would only be out 3-4 wks. Looked worse than that

Correct. The story is about the Appy state game and the start of the Va tech game. Debord and jones both quoted as saying they changed

Did we ever audible last year? I don't think so

Seems to me he just ought to read VN because all the answers are here

The player is out 3-4 weeks is always so dang confusing.

Is it 3-4 weeks from when the injury occurred of when the report is made?

Next week someone will report 3-4 weeks and We won't have a damn clue what that means. Lol

After we thrash Ohio, I want men, women and children to recoil in horror, when they witness the annihilation the Vols unleash on the Gators. I want to feel the thunder of Neyland through my floor in Thailand.

I want every conceivable thing to go wrong for Florida, and for Tennessee to capitalize swiftly, without hesitation. I want General Neyland to peer down from heaven, look over at Peter, and give him the Jeremiah Johnson bearded head nod.

I want the anguish of 12 years of suffering, to be poured out in the condensed time frame of those 3 1/2 hours, with nothing left to give. I want The whole Florida defense to have nightmares of Dobbs, cutting through their defense like a fat man through chocolate cake.

Interesting theology there.:)

Qualified him already as "struggled to learn". Happens to a lot of coaches promoted before they were ready. :) I don't think he's the offensive mastermind at FSU...does work wonders with their QBs tho...shows he learned from the Ainge/Clausen disaster. Try not to let your personal hate of me show so obviously...clouds your point. :yu:

I believe Sanders problem here was being handcuffed by Fulmer more than him struggling on learning to be the OC. I think Cutcliffe had the freedom to run the offense the way he wanted. Don't think Sanders had earned that yet. Sanders did well at UK and now at FSU.

Jumper is a junior and walked on. Bates and Bryant are RS SO and have been in the program longer than Jumper.

Kirkland is younger than any of them.

Jumper isn't playing over them because of seniority. He is playing over them because he has the cerebral part down and they don't it would appear.

Not sure what you are getting at with the D line. We play the best players at defensive line. Also, that is a position that lends itself to playing older stronger players in general. Especially on the interior.
He's starting Danny O and Vickers over Tuttle. Tuttle has shown to be our best D lineman. I like both of the aforementioned players by the way.

Edit: Also, Jumper has played last year so he has senority based on that. Hell, I can learn the defense but your sure as hell wouldn't want me out there.

Tuttle is coming off an injury. Didn't even play in the first game. Let's see how many snaps he gets when we hit our 4 game gauntlet.

Jumper being a junior has nothing to do with why he is playing IMO.
