He did in some ways, and he didn't in others. I have posted in detail about Dobb's biggest flaw, which was moving backwards out of the pocket during pass plays. On numerous occasions, especially earlier in the year he would back up straight into DE's coming off the edge instead of stepping up into the pocket giving himself another second to make a throw. Many sacks this year were his fault and not OL's.
And to be clear, I am a huge Dobb's fan.

Dobbs' ability to break tackles from the QB position won't be matched for a long time. He was incredible at making something out of nothing with his feet, or running through tackles down field.
Yeah but AK fumble problems were from still holding the ball in traffic like he would in open field
How about a top 5:
1. If the rumors are true, Jones not completely turning over the D to Shoop; not letting him call his own shots or bring in his own guys.
2. Subpar coaching, especially on OL and DB.
3. Something is definitely up with the S & C.
4. Depth was still not where it needed to be at MLB, OT, and corner going into the season.
5. If what LWS said about Jones going soft on tackling in spring and fall camps a la Fulmer 2005 is accurate, then I believe it's certainly a factor too.
JG will be a redshirt freshman, which will make a big difference and he not only can run, but can pass better than Dobbs.... after a couple of games of getting timing and chemistry down, he should be electric...
if Butch is really bringing in Rock Gullickson I think that will go a long way in reestablishing toughness, physicality and discipline through offseason workouts. That's a very good first step to fixing some issues.
You don't know that. He could be worse. He could be a practice God but when game time comes he could be a turnover machine.

you could say that about every kid at every position on every team.... you are correct, I do not know this for a fact, but evidence I have seen watching his tape and what i have seen and read about him practicing at UT leads me to have this OPINION.... for that matter, how do you know he won't be this good? We have all seen Dormady cannot run like Dobbs and lately tends to throw off his back foot, which is not a good thing.... these and Sheriron are our options.... who knows, SJ may beat out everyone...
Yes but your statement was claiming that JG would be better than Dobbs. I for one hope he is but to say he will be is stretching it. Let's see how he plays first then we can start comparing. Dobbs has def won games by how good he is but also contributed to our losses by bad play and turnovers. Can't deny Dobbs has been one of the best qbs we have had since iceman.
Nick, I don't think he fixes any of them. He's lost control of the narrative - everything is pushing against him now and every misstep will be magnified. There aren't many human beings that can be successful in the cesspool of scrutiny and vilification he will face over the next twelve months. I think it will do him in and we'll be lucky to make a bowl game next year, regardless of who is playing for us.
I base this on my experience of watching the same thing happen to Derek Dooley, Charlie Strong, and numerous other coaches in recent years. Once the tide turns against you, there's not much you can do.
I fully expect to be watching a press conference of his after our seventh loss next season where he has the same ashen face that Dooley and Strong had when they knew the final nail was in the coffin and they were being peppered with questions about their job.
it's coming.
No doubt and loved me some iceman... wonder if he is available as a QB coach? I'd hire him...
