:cray:Jones stock is not good. Its not sellable. So look forward to seeing him next year.:cray:

I now put this at 100% that Butch is the coach here next year.

The feelers he and his agent have floated have come back with absolutely ZERO interest.

He can't go anywhere.

Now will that demotivate him or we will he rise to the challenge.

Let's hope he rises to the challenge. And that begins by him admitting, at least to himself, that this season has been an absolute monumental failure.

No one wants him and Tennessee can't get rid of him. What a sorry state to be in, for both Butch and UT. That's Tennessee luck right there.

I just wish folks would realize CBJ isn't going any where soon, and will be our coach next year, and hopefully with success, many years to come.
All the current boo hoo'n isn't gonna change a damn thing other than make this great chat board more insufferable! Honestly, it's getting rather old listening to the same ol sh!t over and over.

This is some good churchin right here.

JG is elite.

But there are still unknowns.

It will come down to his in game temperament and his health.

My biggest worry about QB is your last part. Guarantano while outstanding talent wise has had both his Jr. and sr seasons cut short due to injury. i think this is part of why we probably sure dual QBs early on next year. Can't afford Q to transfer if he doesn't win job then G get hurt and your stuck with only Jones as a QB considering we don't have a 2017 QB at moment.

What I'm getting at is some have already written him down as the next best thing since sliced bread. Some of it is too much hype, IMO. But that's just my own thoughts. I think he has a chance to do some great things, but I want to see him in action first before I start saying stuff like "will run all over defenses and shred them through the air at the same time".

It's what we do.

I'm still trying to figure out where all of this JG hype is coming from. Dude hasn't even played a down of college ball yet.

he is the highest rated qb recruit that butch has ever signed. beat urban out for him. chances are he is going to be really good

If he wants to keep coaching at a high level, he has to be successful. If he is as driven as it seems, he has no choice but succeed.

The last guy who didn't succeed now baby sits NFL head cases...

In FF, LWS expressing increased confidence of a Blackburn hire.

Yes, after wasting time and money broadening the search, they have done a 360 back to where they started-- and where most wanted to be all along. Hope they have an MOU soon so he can quash CBJ's raise and extension.

Well, we usually waste time and money to make the wrong hire, so...progress?

Also, apparently the rift between Anderson and Blackburn has been repaired, and Anderson now supports Blackburn, per 247.

Not exactly a bad thing IMO. In making a hire of such importance you need to talk to all interested parties before just handing job over to someone. If anything I think it helps everyone be on same page instead of having a group unhappy you didn't widen search and hoping DB failed out of selfish pride. This way you know you looked around and still felt DB was the guy

From JAV

Hey guys. Tough week in E Tennessee. The aftermath however just proves once again that it is indeed great to be a Tennessee Volunteer. Especially cool what John Brice sponsored on this board a few days ago. Whatever you think about the tone of this board, negavols or sunshine pumpers, this boards is populated by good folks by and large.
I know that some of what I'll post has already been said by someone (JB, Wes, Ryan, LWS) but I thought that some reiterating might help some who are feeling doubtful about the football program.
First, from what I've been told, Butch Jones is a full go at Tennessee. He has kicked the tires at Purdue but there's really no interest there from either side. He's told multiple people that he knows that his best opportunity is the one he already has. I'm sure that there will be more rumors and tire kicking but there's very little chance that he will go elsewhere.
I believe that you will see a better close to recruiting than you might expect and a renewed sense of urgency from the top down. I know that CBJ has told people that he's already reevaluated some of the changes that he made this year and has identified what he sees as success and failure and is already working on a plan for 2017. Whatever you might think of him, no one works harder than Butch Jones. He is extremely driven.
I also believe, based on several conversations, that CBJ is very serious about bringing in highly regarded assistants to replace anyone who leaves. There will almost certainly be a shared OC position with DeBord coaching the OL and a high profile QB coach. I know that there already has been an informal 3rd party conversation with Helfrich and Applewhite. I believe that both of them would be open to the CO OC idea.
Bob Shoop will be the DC at Tennessee next year. CBJ doesn't want to start over again and Shoop knows that his reputation took a bit of a hit this year. He loves living in Tennessee and he's excited about what can be done with some changes next season.
I've been doubtful about JG as a passer because I've seen him be very inconsistent in that department. Someone I trust very much has relayed to me that he has made a huge leap in the last couple of months specifically. He's really worked very hard to learn the offense and has looked very confident. He's always been an electric runner and now he's rounding into form as a passer. I love QD but if JG keeps improving, especially with a really good QB coach, he's most likely going to be the man.
I've been critical of CBJ this year and I have my doubts still. However, he is the absolute best option for Tennessee for the next couple of years. The worst thing that could happen is for him to leave voluntarily or involuntarily. There isn't anyone who is a viable, better option than Butch right now. No one knows how things will play out. Those who are comparing him to Dooley are foolish and those longing for Kiffin are deluding themselves. The proof will be in the next few weeks as to how the rest of CBJ's tenure will go here. If Bob Shoop is allowed to get coaches of his own choosing and CBJ can attract a young, high profile QB coach, I'll see that as a huge step forward in the evolution of Butch Jones.

SBV's got it right.

No, they didn't back off in fall camp. Saw a couple of them. Some of the players you see injured now were injured during fall camp from the tough work they put in. They pulled them out to get them as healthy as possible, which they should do. That cost some of them practice time. Some then went on to re-injure themselves or have new injuries. What else should they have done - made them practice anyway?

The ONLY hire for AD is David Blackburn if UT really wants to have any hope of returning to true relevance in the next decade in football or any other sport for that matter. He knows the job, the system, the finances, has the agent contacts/confidence, and knows where most of the bodies are buried.

I agree in theory, but UT didn't get far at all into a national search. After months of procrastination, the search was widened then shut down before fully vetting and interviewing a broader list of candidates. All's well that ends well... but UT's reactionary management is costly and inefficient. We'll have an AD in place soon, though, and that's the most important thing. I don't believe the coaching situation would have played out like it has if we hadn't had lame duck leadership.

Hubbs, Fort, and Brice all but confirmed he was. No need to get bent out of shape about it. I'm sure Butch didn't pick up the phone and call these schools. His agent is being proactive. Let's be honest here, Butch knows he's at a real cross road for next season with a new AD that did not hire him.

I know a D1 basketball coach and he as well as any coach will be nervous when a new AD is hired, with few exceptions, this is true. Coach K is that type of exception.
