But the fanbase usually doesn't know what the agent is doing. In this case it's been leaked and no denials have been made. Butch himself has not looked like a coach that want's to be here. Not a word from him since his abbreviated post Vandy loss press conference.

Personally, CBJ holding a press conference to say that he loves TN and has no plans to go anywhere else would be just as pointless as silence, if not more. How many press conferences have coaches held saying that they love their current school and they aren't leaving only to turn around and take another job the next week. I would rather Butch be out on the recruiting trail sitting in the living rooms of the recruits and their parents and telling them face to face why he wants their son to play football at UT. Recruits don't need a press conference and we shouldn't either. The current players and the potential signees are the ones Butch needs to reassure right now and I think he is doing just that.

On another note, the BOT needs to grease the kids and clear out whatever sticking points are in the way of hiring Blackburn quick, fast, and in a hurry. Getting the new AD up in front of the media and having him lay out his plans to improve the athletic department would do more good than a CBJ press conference right now IMO.

He said it because it was a true goal Butch had. He also said he didn't see it being realistic. Only saying what Butchs dream would have been.

Here's one thing about all this stuff though is maybe after this fiasco Butch realizes he messed up and has full focus on what he needs to do. Some have said that is the case now such as that just a vol post someone posted here. What I think is getting lost in this is people are offended by his kicking the tires like he hates us or something. I have been told that is total opposite. He loves TN and the fans. I think some are worried close to him that the expectations and the media scrutiny will have long term health consequences and that played a part in his kicking the tires around.

Involuntary has said this earlier, but I'll repeat it. I think we will learn just how serious he is about succeeding at Tennessee based on what type of assistant changes he makes. Does he try to make some homerun hires that can be elite on the recruiting trail as well as develop players? Or is he not able to make those kind of hires? can he get rid of some assistants who he has been very loyal to, but seems to be falling very short with the units they coach? Will he let Shoop bring in some of his own assistants to help him coach his scheme?

I am wondering if his wife is pushing the side of getting him to look at other jobs that are less demanding. He seems like a family man… I am sure that she is very concerned with his health and how it has deteriorated since he is been at Tennessee. This is where he needs to learn to stop micromanaging so much, and hire the coaches necessary to win, and let them do their jobs. Hire an elite OC and give him the keys to game plan and call the plays. Let shoop do his thing.

I don't put all this on Butch. Part of this is not having a competent AD. I've been told that Hart is bitter and he's enjoying all this. As with the way he handles injuries, not addressing things leads to wild speculation. I'm not saying he needs to come out and denounce the rumors of him trying to get out but he should have the state of the program message. Present a plan for the future. But since we haven't heard from him since that Saturday debacle it has led to wild speculation.

I agree that Butch needs to be recruiting, not players but coaches that can recruit and coach. If you're going to hire a million dollar DC, get out of his way and let him do his thing, otherwise bring in an up-and-comer and guide him. I think not having an AD right now is probably hindering that effort, not because Butch doesn't have the ability to identify who he wants but to know what the AD can do as far as contract structuring, paying buyouts to those that are leaving, and paying buyouts to those that might be coming, contract stuff. It is super important that we get an AD on board yesterday.

Keep in mind that some coaches will have recruits that they'll want to bring with them, similar to Scott last year with Byrd. Also, keep in mind some of the kids we are recruiting are EEs and they may not know who their position coach would be if they come. All this uncertainty is hurting recruiting. Recruiting is about positive momentum and the vibe around the program. Unfortunately we have neither at the present.

You lied he has never been quoted saying anything about not understanding why the fans are pissed. More freaking lies

I honestly think you should be banned from this site for the above comment. And by the way , I saw myself where it was reported that Butch did not understand the frustration of the fans and their critical nature of his tenure.

The only press conference I am interested in is announcing David Blackburn for AD to get this mess fixed. I was glad to read on Basilio that apparently Tennessee has told Butch no to his raise and extension. Thank goodness! Anyone else hearing that on TOS? Maybe in some strange way, this horrible loss is finally waking up the administration to make better decisions moving forward.

I don't think they've told him no. I think they've said not right now. I think the new AD will figure that out.

Oh, I think there is no doubt Butch wants the fans to love him. In spite of the robot speech, he is very emotional--takes things to heart.

I can recall when he first came here, he had the practice with the practice Vol Walk. He was so excited. He had tears in his eyes when game day came.

Even as late as the Georgia game, he fell down on his knees and seemed to cry. He went off coach speak and blurted out how someone had made a cross on his shoe.

I want him to succeed here.

This video after the Georgia game is the real Butch Jones. He doesn't like the formal media crap but that is part of the job too. However, everyone upset with him for his "Coachspeak" needs to get over it. That's who he is in the press conferences. Whenever he tries to deviate from his standard phrases he gets blasted for things like the Champions of Life. If I had a son and was considering sending him to UT, I would like to know more about how the coaches were going to influence my son to be a champion in life and not just on the football field. The emphasis on education that Butch has brought and the community involvement mean a lot to me. I want to win on the field as much as the next fan but if it means seeing news stories about our players getting arrested with stolen guns in their cars then I want no part of it. (Looking at you Bama)

Agreed.

I can't wait until next week when the fans are so pissed at Butch for saying he is excited about going to whatever bowl we go to. He will get crucified for saying that on Monday.

Agree. And, he has to say it. He has no choice. He definitely cannot say that he wants to be somewhere else and he can't remain silent about it because that is just like saying he would rather be somewhere else.

I'm considering not buying season tickets next year. If I don't have so much money invested it will help me not care as much and help me better focus on more important things.

Sigh.

I agree, I would like them to make whatever coaching moves they are going to make sooner rather than later. I know it probably won't be until after the bowl game though. I think a plan for the future PC would be beneficial but I think that has to wait for the new AD to be on board so they can discuss and get on the same page. It wouldn't do any good for Butch to lay out a plan and the new AD come in and want to go a different way. What it all boils down to is not having an AD in place. Hart announced that he was "leaving" months ago. They should have already had the new AD in place for just such a situation as this. There is almost always coaching turnover and having the new AD in place to influence the future of the football program would have been a wise move. Oh well. Maybe it inadvertently gets us Blackburn and we can all be happy with that hire.

I think you meant, "grease the skids".

The alternative happens only at Penn State.

I'm not talking about a detailed plan of action. I'm talking about a PC to say that last year was not acceptable and he is going to analyze everything. Say that this season is in the rear view mirror and we are looking forward to signing day, off season workouts, and spring practice. He could say that while we will miss the seniors, the ones that elevated the program from where it was when he arrived that he's looking forward to seeing how team 121 comes together and what identity it takes on. I think it would show a little humbleness go along ways to helping the fans to regain some of the faith in him. Now we know actions speak louder than words but it would be a start. All JMO.

Good post invol. I'm not sure Butch can make it thru a presser without stepping in it though. But I think if he could then what you are suggesting would be ideal.

Hubbs squashed that the other day. He said they both parties talked and there was no interest from either side.

These things can be fluid though.

I don't see Purdue as being able to afford him. Lots of cheaper options out there.

But you never know. Guess it could depend on how badly he wants out of town.
