Different.

Coach Battle started with a good record and got progressively worse. He then left the cupboard bare for Coach Majors.

CBJ started with a bad record and is getting better.
Potential S&C mistake cost progression this year (many other factors too)

I agree, it was different in progression. Was just pointing out that 7 and 8 win regular seasons get the HC a moving van at his door at UT.

I don't see a progression to "better" in play as a team. I see 8 win seasons directly linked to two classes of top 10 talent and a handful of stout holdovers that went down and/or are gone after this season. Once the top 10 talent is no longer recruited, like last recruiting cycle and possibly this one, I see 5-7 win seasons. I have not seen Butch ever make lemonade out of lemons. I've seen Josh Dobbs catch lightening in a bottle occasionally. I've seen a Hail Mary salvage one game they should have won handily and a recovered fumble in OT by a departed RB that saved another. Now Dobbs is graduating and there are two unproven, talented QB's around to see if one can run this offense as good or better than Dobbs to have any shot of winning 8 games, much less compete for a SEC title.

Need some momentum going into 2017 - like accomplished new coaches, adjustments to system, and some elite players to add to the mix. Some of the top 10 talent still on the roster have been seriously injured, we have no idea if they can get back to where they were, much less fulfill their potential. Just hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel.

He does take responsibility but amongst the other coach speak it gets lost.

You are correct about this. I have heard him take responsibility 2 or maybe 3 different occasions. People ignore it when he does. I do not think it is a real natural thing for him to do since he does it on very few occasions.

I'd imagine Hubbs would definitely claim no interest from "either side" if Purdue didn't want him. Otherwise it looks VERY bad.

Hubbs already said that Purdue had no interest in him and it sounded pretty one-sided.

I don't know that he's going to be on anyone's list at a school he would have interest in. Purdue people tell me no way there.

I'm considering not buying season tickets next year. If I don't have so much money invested it will help me not care as much and help me better focus on more important things.

Sigh.

Take a note from Butch and keep quiet and make your own decisions. Are you wanting us to say cuddos

I'm not talking about a detailed plan of action. I'm talking about a PC to say that last year was not acceptable and he is going to analyze everything. Say that this season is in the rear view mirror and we are looking forward to signing day, off season workouts, and spring practice. He could say that while we will miss the seniors, the ones that elevated the program from where it was when he arrived that he's looking forward to seeing how team 121 comes together and what identity it takes on. I think it would show a little humbleness go along ways to helping the fans to regain some of the faith in him. Now we know actions speak louder than words but it would be a start. All JMO.

There is nothing CBJ could say in a press conference that would change this fanatical fan base's opinion. It would just be words and there are non to change perception at this point. The only way is through actions, winning a bowl game, changing up the staff, having a better year. A press conference would pnly make things worse period.

I could handle that but I think the majority of the fanbase would just use it as another excuse to throw rotten fruits and vegetables at him. I think that by being out on the recruiting trail he is honoring that time tested adage of "Actions speak louder than words".

I don't know how Purdue's search is going. I was listening to 990's gameday coverage last Saturday and Jimmy said it looked like Purdue was going to hire Fleck. I think he can do much better than Purdue.

Maybe Purdue thought they could do better early in the process, but if they swing and miss a couple of times, I could see them trying to hire Butch.

Dennis Dodd seems pretty connected and probably has better sources at Purdue than Hubbs does.

Hubbs says no AD hire until after the bowl game.

This would be stupid. Why wait another day? As soon as the consensus is reach and the deal is hammered out have a press conference. Thank Hart for his service and send him on his way. Let the new AD, hopefully Blackburn, get started on fixing this and start reaching out to possible assistant coach replacements.

I heard Jeff Brohm at WKU for Purdue.

Looking forward to winning our bowl game, hiring Blackburn, reshuffling the coaching staff, closing with a solid recruiting class and Butch giving it one last shot at a 10 win East Title season. If he can't get it done we will have a great AD in place to get us the right coach moving forward.

Go Vols!

The new Chancellor could be affecting the timing of the AD hire. She won't be approved until Dec 15. The announcement might not come until after the bowl game, but the deal will be worked out before that.

You're always going to have those that you can't please no matter, even winning with some, but with many it would. You can't lump the whole fan base into one category. I agree though it doesn't matter what he says but ignoring the ones that it would matter to is not the answer either.

I can live with that. Hopefully Hart doesn't need to make any big decisions until then

??

No, sorry.

Just voicing a thought on a message board about the Vols. My family has had season tickets since the 80s.

Just saying I've been contemplating not getting them next year because it would help me enjoy watching the Vols without feeling like I have so much invested. It's getting old investing so much time and money and getting small returns. I will continue to be a huge Big Orange fan of course.

I'm not sure why you felt like you had to respond in such a rude way, when you don't even know who I am or what is going on in my life. Apologies if I offended you in some way.

Hubbs already said that Purdue had no interest in him and it sounded pretty one-sided.

You could read into that two ways:

1. No way we would hire Butch, we're not impressed.
2. We would love to be able to hire Butch but there is zero way we could afford to pay what it would take.

Not a Butch otter but to play devils advocate:

Wonder how many people were saying Tubberville would never get it done at Auburn around this time in 2003?

Purdue can and most likely will do a lot worse than Butch Jones.

Absolutely. I was just pointing out that you can take that statement from Hubbs and take two very different inferences from it. Some are insinuating that Purdue thought they could do better than Butch.

Oh, I know. I'm with you.

Purdue isn't going to hire a coach as good as Butch IMO. That job sucks. If they could afford his buyout and could work out an agreement on salary with him they'd be foolish not to hire him if they could get him onboard.

It's standard Hubbs-speak. The guy is a savant when it comes to omitting facts or unintentionally (or is it intentionally?) writing things with double meanings. He also has a knack for crucial typos that completely change the context of a sentence.

Would UTAD waived the buyout (or negotiate it down) if that was a sticking point to CBJ's departure? Would Joe DiP make the call since there is effectively no AD at this time? (Hart is in name only imo)

I wonder if the revenue from the big ten network has Purdue willing to spend more money? Also, playing on the obviously weaker side of the division could have them thinking they could make a move. Just a little food for thought.
