Timing doesn't matter, too subjective. A team can lose 3 or 4 as long as they're playing like the best team at the end of the year?

That's the problem with the arguments. It's a matter of degree, but each situation is unique and complex. Folks didn't like the computer calculations, folks don't like using the polls, folks don't like a panel treating the selection like a beauty pageant. The PSU head to head late in the season couple with the conference win is a strong case, when head to head elimination will determine No. 1. I am not pointing to extrapolating on the standards I suggest but instead weighing the standards in this particular circumstance.

In this case does it really matter though, the other 3 teams seem to be window dressing for the inevitability winning the mini-playoff built on glamour. Of course I could be wrong.

May have been mentioned but TN was dropped from the CFP poll. No longer 22nd and unranked from what I saw.

For the record I loved the computers, just didn't like the lack of playoff.

Some of you guys are making this harder than it has to be.

Who were the best 4 teams over the course of the 13-14 games they played? That's what they are deciding.

Those are the 4 teams that should be in. Those are the 4 teams that are currently in.

Ranked 9 to unranked. Great. It's so sick to see what Franklin as done with Penn State; death penalty and sanctions to 10-2, conference championship and win over a top 5 team. Here we are with a down SEC, down east especially, our best roster in over a decade, best QB in the SEC and we went 8-4 and are going to the music city bowl

I used to think 8 team would be best but it wouldn't. Just more arguing for the 9-15 teams and most importantly it would make the regular season less important. Just like College Basketball. Eff that.

I don't think it makes the regular season less important at all. In fact, all of those games yesterday matter when they really didn't this year, especially if they take the 5 conference champions as automatic bids. If you aren't in the top 8, then you don't deserve it, but I think there will be controversies most years with the 3-6 ranked teams.,

I was wrong...the site was using the AP Poll and placing a CFP ranking...didn't catch the first time. Looks like the have only released the first 6.

I agree. It will never be enough. I've always thought 4 was never enough. I feel 6 is better but like Ron said then you'll have 7-10 feeling the deserve in. Having personal experience with the fcs even they have teams that feel the deserve to be in.

The big problem I have is they go against what they've said matters. Winning your conference, winning conference championship, sos, ooc scheduling, head to head. If all that didn't matter don't tell us it does simple as that.

My 2 cents on playoff format:

Don't care how many teams, but create distinct criteria for making it instead of having an arbitrary committee. One reason the NFL is very interesting is because down the stretch of the the regular season there are a ton of teams playing for just a couple spots - and they all know exactly what must happen in order for them to get in.

This is complex but what I would do is:

5 Power five conference champs are in and advance to second round.

5 power five runners up (conferences set their rules on how to determine runner up) qualify for first round.

Top 2 group of five conference champs (determined by BCS equivalent rankings) qualify for play-in game to make first round.

1st Round (at home stadium of higher ranked team): 1-3 of the power 5 runners up vs 4-5 of the runners up and play in winner. Winning three advance to second round.

Second round: 5 power champs plus 3 first round winners (games at higher seed)

Final four: at bowl site

Championship: at bowl site

12 team playoff, no committee necessary.

"At this point, Tennessee and other schools are waiting to see what the Citrus Bowl does. Providing there isn't a surprise pick for Orlando then all signs point to Tennessee landing in Nashville. The Citrus Bowl hasn't eliminated Tennessee, but people in Nashville and in the SEC fully expect the Citrus Bowl to take LSU with Florida just being there a year ago. That would put Auburn in the Sugar, LSU to Orlando, Florida to Tampa, and Kentucky to Jacksonville with the Taxslayer bowl eliminating Tennessee last week. The Music City Bowl wants Tennessee and has been positioning themselves to land the Vols for just the 2nd time in the history of the bowl. Now who would Tennessee play? Like many projections, it looks like it would be Nebraska if Iowa is the pick for the Outback bowl."

"Capital One selection is interesting. LSU makes the most sense out of the SEC. Wisconsin would make the most sense out of the Big 10, but because they played earlier in the year, doubt they want that rematch so who does Capital One want more LSU or Wisconsin.

Some real talk out of the sunshine state of Nebraska to the Outback Bowl. We will continue to gather all we can this afternoon.

Just wanted to pass that along."

So this year it would be:

Alabama, Clemson, Washington, Penn St, Oklahoma (advance to second round)

Auburn, FSU, USC, Ohio St, Oklahoma St. (first round)

Western Mich and Temple (play in game)

1st round:

WMU at Ohio St
Auburn at USC
FSU at Oklahoma St

2nd round:

FSU at Bama
USC at Clemson
Ohio St at Washington
Oklahoma at Penn St

I'm fine with playing Indiana or Minnesota at the MCB. Our bowl isn't going to draw much national interest no matter what. Just get the W and focus on next year. Would hate to lose the bowl game on top of everything else that happened this season.
