With the talent level on this team I wouldn't really consider 8 wins a good year. I may be in the minority but I don't think a third straight 8-4 regular season should be considered a success. Wouldn't be a failure, but that should never be the expectation at Tennessee after 5 years. If this team is coached well and stays healthy, they really need to win 9 or 10 IMO.

Good coaching could definitely get more than 8 wins out of this team. Great coaching could probably get us to double digit wins. The talent for that type of season is there.


Still a ways off from being a playoff roster, though.

Counting bowl game, we should get at least 10, maybe 11.

If we don't, the world will keep on turning and there will be reasons why it did or didn't happen.

But, as fans, do we do this just for some numbers? I know I don't.

I look forward to seeing plays made, a lot of amazing, or at least satisfactory, plays made along the way by our guys in Orange. Looking forward to a great season.

Doug Matthews has been effusive in his praise of Ignont. Said he will show up early and often on special teams.

I'm starting to think the "5 star hearts" class was way underrated. And maybe they have a chip on their shoulder since the media has implicitly been bashing them so much in their bashing of butch for that quote.

Opinions are simply that, opinions. I am certainly not going to rip somebody because they chose to construct an opinion. I will say this though, making strong steadfast immovable opinions with very little supporting evidence is a good way to end up looking like a fool. That's not to say JG won't be a stud. That's to say that there is actually very little actual evidence to prove that will happen based on snippets of info from journalists and a small amount of highlight videos from high school.

Either you have subconscious bias because the opinion you have formed is what you WANT to be true. Or perhaps, you really think playing QB in the SEC is that simple. We certainly oversimplify playing QB when we develop opinions of young QBs. Our evidence is about 0.1% of the evidence college coaches have to develop their opinions on these QBs. They have actually spoken to the player. Broken down film with them. Grilled them with questions about how to react to different defenses. Seen them do thousands of reps. Seen how they react to college-level blitz packages. Seen them in 7on7. 11on11. Etc. Etc. Etc. And guess what? They still have wrong opinions sometimes. But hey, I saw some footage from a high school highlight tape so I KNOW which of these young QBs give our team the best chance of winning! Hahahaha! LMAO

This is speculation but Butch talked about the challenge of summer school today with papers dues and such. I note this because I suspected when we lost Kendrick, Smith, and Tatum last week, all at the same time, that the reason was they needed to focus on academics for some reason or the other as summer school is coming to an end within the next week I think. So, while I can't confirm, I don't think we have any injuries in that trio. Their GPA just needs to get up high enough to qualify for the dean's list. Again, I'm just listening to Butch and Wells and speculating on what they did not say and probably shouldn't say. Kendrick was back today and the other two are expected back soon. I could be wrong. It's happed once or twice before but right now I'm going with no injury, just have to get some papers written or something.
