Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXXIV

This is speculation but Butch talked about the challenge of summer school today with papers dues and such. I note this because I suspected when we lost Kendrick, Smith, and Tatum last week, all at the same time, that the reason was they needed to focus on academics for some reason or the other as summer school is coming to an end within the next week I think. So, while I can't confirm, I don't think we have any injuries in that trio. Their GPA just needs to get up high enough to qualify for the dean's list. Again, I'm just listening to Butch and Wells and speculating on what they did not say and probably shouldn't say. Kendrick was back today and the other two are expected back soon. I could be wrong. It's happed once or twice before but right now I'm going with no injury, just have to get some papers written or something.
You mean they and Jack Jones aren't quitting?

I try to look on the bright side. It's a process of continued improvement. :)

The Tennessee football team had a 2.54 GPA, down from 2.68 in the fall and 2.72 last spring. There were 33 football players with a GPA above 3.0 and six that made the dean's list.

A new academic goal achieved this spring by Tennessee's student-athletes is a 3.06 GPA, a record for one semester according to numbers released by UT. Tennessee athletes also recorded a 3.06 GPA last fall.

It's the fifth consecutive spring semester with a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher and the seventh consecutive semester overall above 3.0.

"It just continues to show what great student-athletes we have," Scogin said. "And I think it also gives us the opportunity to show the pride we have in really performing in all aspects of their experience at UT — in the classroom, in the community.

"Obviously a lot of people talk about their performances in the competitive arena, but they don't get their recognition for the records they've set in other areas as well."

Yes sir. Pig extended his whole body out to score that TD and fumbled an inch or less from scoring. But the FF said his fumble cost us the game and called him alligator arms and I was irate. They ended up deleting half the posts where I was arguing with them, which I should have known better. They called him a pothead and a cokehead. Not everybody, but more than I would have thought. Eventually, I said I' m gone before I get banned and I u all can go ahead and rip a VFL that gave his all for Tennessee.

This, plus I remember the big comeback against S.C. in 2014, when Dobbs led the resurgence in the last 5 mins, he hooked up with Pig repeatedly. Still watch the last part of that game often. Cocks thought they had it won and can't forget Stevie"s press conference..

His silly ass homer predictions like that show why he's stuck working at the prep level, IMO.

Lol Who said I was stuck doing anything?

On top of that why in hell are these guys at Tennessee? Are they not here to win a natty? Are you developing a national championship level program or not? This is Year 5. The roster is loaded and needs a trigger man. The Lines in particular(especially the O-line) shouldn't be dominated by a team in the country. And our schedule has two tough games on it(Bama and LSU). The East should be FOOD. But coaching and QB play will be the key.

And FTR I'm currently working with college guys but I thought I was on a message board to discuss my opinions on Tennessee Football not taking personal shots. But I forgot how this crowd gets when you talk about winning a championship at Tennessee.

I guess other teams on our schedule don't have issues either but cool. 😎😎😎😎

Yeah..him playing pitch and catch against air proves nothing to me either.

He's thrown some dimes in game settings as well. He hit Malone deep in his first 2 spring games with on the money throws. He hit PW off his back foot 40 yards down the field in a game. Then about 30 yards to PW on the run, throw was on the money. He's an accurate passer and I think our passing game will be elevated opening up JK for big runs.

Yes..I know. I'm not dogging Q, I'm just saying watching him pitch and against air in that vid ain't no biggie..

Opinions are simply that, opinions. I am certainly not going to rip somebody because they chose to construct an opinion. I will say this though, making strong steadfast immovable opinions with very little supporting evidence is a good way to end up looking like a fool. That's not to say JG won't be a stud. That's to say that there is actually very little actual evidence to prove that will happen based on snippets of info from journalists and a small amount of highlight videos from high school.

Either you have subconscious bias because the opinion you have formed is what you WANT to be true. Or perhaps, you really think playing QB in the SEC is that simple. We certainly oversimplify playing QB when we develop opinions of young QBs. Our evidence is about 0.1% of the evidence college coaches have to develop their opinions on these QBs. They have actually spoken to the player. Broken down film with them. Grilled them with questions about how to react to different defenses. Seen them do thousands of reps. Seen how they react to college-level blitz packages. Seen them in 7on7. 11on11. Etc. Etc. Etc. And guess what? They still have wrong opinions sometimes. But hey, I saw some footage from a high school highlight tape so I KNOW which of these young QBs give our team the best chance of winning! Hahahaha! LMAO

I've already stated why I don't like #12. And it's from him on the field literally.

I said JG is really athletic and it's based on HS film since they won't let him run at practice.

Fact: there were games last season that our offense suffered because we did not have a QB who was a precision passer with above average arm talent.

Fact: they were games last season that our offense excelled because we had a quarterback with amazing athleticism and intelligence.

Fact: The coaches see our current crop of quarterbacks more than any of us do.

Opinion: let the coaches decide who should lead our offense the season.

JMO but a lot of the success will fall on how good the QB will be. We could be anywhere from 7 or 8 wins to 10 wins. The offense right now is set up for the QB to succeed.

Experienced O-Line
Good Running Backs
Good Wideouts.

Depends on how good Dormady or JG will be, that will define our season.

This bothers me a bit. I know it's subtle, but you don't use #'s with anyone else but Dormady.

I don't know a tenth of what you know about football. But, to me, its disrespectful. JMO.
