I like watching baseball on TV.

I used to when I was a kid but then they banned Pete Rose and went on strike. I got away from it and just can't watch it anymore. At first, it was a protest over the Rose business (never should have been banned from the HoF) but these days it's just boring to watch on tv for me.

I do appreciate that others like watching baseball on tv tho. It's odd but I find softball much more watchable. The pace of the game is better.

Agree with you on Pete Rose

agreed. Here's a question that will be on a lot of minds tho. If Butch goes 8-4/7-5, and you know you can have Chip Kelly, do you fire him?

Last week on the audible podcast with Bruce Feldman and Stewart Mandel, they addressed the question of what win total Butch needs to survive. Feldman thinks Butch needs a 8-4 type season to survive. Mandel scoffed at Feldman's suggestion and said he thinks Tennessee should be "competing for national titles, not losing shootouts to Vanderbilt." Mandel thinks John Currie agrees and will can Butch if he misses the SEC championship game again, even if he goes 9-3.

I think the national media are saying these things as much because of Currie as they are because of Butch or a negative view of our program. They think Currie wants to put his own mark on football pretty soon. They also think Tennessee can be a lot more than it has been under Butch.

Click bait. We Tennessee fans are so easy.

It's click bait but it's also how the media feels. We think differently about it but for whatever reason the media and CFB fans in general think CBJ is an idiot that should've been fired already. Personally, I think they're out of touch with where we've been as well as what actually happened last season.

CBJ may well get fired this year because of that media perception and wayyyyy out of proportion faux outrage.

And gahlzan and sumlin were no where to be found on the bold prediction I'm guessing

Sumlin and Freeze were mentioned but not Malzahn.

"Among them are Kevin Sumlin (Texas A&M), Hugh Freeze* (Ole Miss), Brian Kelly (Notre Dame), Todd Graham (Arizona State), Jim Mora (UCLA) and Butch Jones (Tennessee)."

The good news is the national media is predicting it, which means it won't happen.

I think one of the biggest problems in CFB today is the perception that there are Sabans everywhere. The idea has turned SEC HC jobs into revolving doors when the truth is that there's an extremely limited talent pool and none of the so-called proven coaches are going to leave an easy job in the Big 10 or ACC to have their chance at a playoff spot threatened by playing Saban every year. Why bother when you can sit back and play 1 or 2 other good teams you have a chance against and guarantee yourself a playoff spot?

I get the feeling that Currie won't settle for anything less than 8 wins. If Butch doesn't at least go 8-4 I think there's a decent chance he'll be given his walking papers.

100% agree

I think so too, and I would agree with the decision. 8-4 is my cut-off.

I like Butch and think he has done great things to restore the program. I also think his tenure has been better than portrayed by the media, and last year was a disaster mostly because of injuries. But at some point, you lose control of the narrative and no matter how good a coach you are, you can't overcome the negativity to lead your team, recruit, etc. He is dangerously close to that.

It's unfair, but this is spot on.

Yes, Butch has lost some games he most definitely should have won, and I've been as critical as anyone in moments of agony (e.g., losing to Vanderbilt and giving up 45 points in the process), but the football program is on such better footing than it was when he started and I think the negative rhetoric gets a little hyperbolic based on the job Jones has actually done.

8-4 is tough. On one hand, it's year 5, and 8-4 would be a non factor again. That isn't going to cut it. On the other hand, it's a new QB.l and there could be some struggles because of that. But there is enough talent on this team to win the east. This is a 10-2 to 11-1 roster Imo. You have to see 8-4 in year 5 as a let down in the east with talent like we have.

But you also have to factor in his staff. There isn't a better coaching staff in the east imo, and it's one of the very best in the SEC.
