Yep. Several times, you could tell QD and the WRs weren't on the same page. CBJ has been all over the receivers for lazy route running and not keeping their eyes on the ball in practice. Callaway did a great job of helping the QB out by going up and getting the ball. Reminded me of Justin Hunter before he got hurt.

I recall one of the complaints of Miami fans on beard was while the WRs could get open they would drop easy passes way too often. He is still young as a position coach so obviously that can change. It could be some of what we are seeing. Figured Butch or the former Jags guys sorrentino would be able to help him out

This defense is gonna be worse than last year. Going to be record setting bad.

This staff can't develop players.

Interesting considering several that watched practices thought out defense would be legit this year. Granted that was before Kirkland and Smith went down.

Is he basing this off game 1?

Off of everything from the back half of last year to now.

I heard about the development thing which is ridiculous given the last draft. Only thing you can legitimately question there is Thigpen given our issues at MLB.

As for the defense... We have some ballers but we have yet to see a pass rush because of GTs offense. We did see some playmaking ability from Taylor tho.

This defense may not be great but it's far too early to say it's going to be consistently awful when they have yet to play more traditional offense.

Yeah, I guess. Idk. Every now and then I see his name popup and I search his posts and read them.

I don't remember him being this down on the Vols even when he was bringing the hard to hear truth during the Dooley era.

He is clearly bitter. This staff has not had time to develop anybody, at least, at any length. But, Callaway looked great, Bituli is coming along, Warrior was better, OL was much better, Taylor was a dog. I think its foolish to say that Hoke, a guy widely regarded as one of the best DL coaches in the nation can't develop. I don't know about Warren because, well, Martin looked the same, but they didn't really pass so we didn't learn much. Receivers are going to be fine. A lot of their problem were bad passes as well, but they did have inexcusable drops. But it is way too early to say this staff that is virtually brand new can't develop players. Thats foolish.

And since he does almost all of his posting in the FF, they are probably holding him up as a messiah.

I didn't read the responses.

Honestly, I don't think the FF people really know he's a legit source. There's just too many of them over there. He posts something and an hour later it's buried 8 pages deep.

I remember when I was on VQ that Larry was as trusted as Hubbs and I would listen to him over the other mods even.

Just went through it. He is basing it off of Ga tech vs is compared to what he claims is a better ga tech team vs UGA and Clemson. Well Clemson won dang title and UGA lost so wtf does that have to do with us. The breaking the rushing record isn't a stretch considering we just gave up like 3/4 games worth of yards in one game. He basically isn't giving ga tech any credit for being a good team.

We might suck but I'm not going to base that off playing the triple option team that owned 20 minutes more time of possession in first half vs a team that had to have a simplified game plan due to losing two expected starters at Lb

The draft is not an example/can't be used....
Barnett came in balling and kept balling, Kamara did the same, JRM and Sutton both came in already at a high level and kept it... None of these players really needed developing... tweaked, maybe... but developing no. Dobbs apparently didn't even have a QB coach...

Is it development or lack of trust to let a star talent just get out there and make plays? I think Butchs biggest problem is playing it safe with who starts despite knowing a guy behind is more talented. It takes injuries for guys to get their shot.

Callaway and Bituli don't become stars overnight without injury to Smith/Jennings and Austin/kirkland

I expect to shut out Indiana State. The question will be how long does it take us to get them off the field each time they have the ball (i.e., how many first downs do they get)? I remember us taking forever to get Georgia State (2012) and Tennessee Tech (2016) off the field, and at the time I couldn't figure out why. In both years, the defense fell apart in the games after those, and it became apparent the defense was terrible.

Interesting. Butch Jones inherited a roster that had 3 picks in 2014 draft. Zero in 2015 and zero in 2016. His first class of eligible players he sends 6 guys to the NFL and they were apparently all NFL players when they left high school.

Great example of a toxic Vol "fan."

I haven't seen Larry's posts in a while but IIRC, he has been upfront about thinking CBJ isn't the guy to take UT to the next level. I don't remember him being offensive or bitter about it-- he's just expressing a personal opinion and the reasons he feels that way.

Agree completely.

His posts have a different feel to them for sure. Something changed his tune and it's happened since last season ended.

Could be trouble. People with insight into this team are very pessimistic behind the scenes.
