This still likely a 7-5 to 9-3 team. Always has been. There is plenty to be pessimistic about because we're not even remotely elite. We do have some playmakers though and every team not named Bama has question marks themselves.

The draft can't be used as an example of developing players???

Interesting. Butch Jones inherited a roster that had 3 picks in 2014 draft. Zero in 2015 and zero in 2016. His first class of eligible players he sends 6 guys to the NFL and they were apparently all NFL players when they left high school.

Great example of a toxic Vol "fan."

dude, "toxic vol fan"?? GTFO...you have some f'n ax to grind with everything I say... you might want to chill. You say our D is going to be bad... someone says we develop players well pointing to the draft... I am simply pointing out that these particular players shouldn't be put in the "development" category because they were already at a high level.
Martin, Mosley, Bryant, Jacob Johnson, Bates, Picou, and others would be classified as development players or lack there of... guys that we have seen come in that are pretty highly touted, but haven't materialized ... If you have guys that came in at a 3* or higher and haven't see the field in year 2 or later, or they are still making bonehead plays.. then that is an example of not being developed...

His posts have a different feel to them for sure. Something changed his tune and it's happened since last season ended.

I don't post much in the FF, so I don't see many of his posts. He used to bring solid info-- probably still does, but few care about that in the FF.

I pay zero attention to you personally. I saw someone saying something incorrect/wrong and I called it out. If that has happened before today with you, then you must be saying wrong things regularly.

When you sign 30 guys a year, some of them aren't gonna pan out and you can only start more than 22 guys.

Saying you can't use the draft as an example of player development is crazy. You could maybe say that we don't have enough guys who are ready behind them but you can't throw out the draft and act like all those guys were NFL players when they got here.

This is an example of fans inventing things to complain about.

I search out his posts every now and then.

Larry has always been money. That's why it concerns me. He sounds a little bitter and I hope that's just it but he is very pessimistic about UT right now. It seems more of an overall pessimism and not squarely directed at CBJ.

He's one. There's another guy on another board who has been saying similar things. I've been trying to read between the lines with some others. The VQ staff, when I've heard Hubbs and Lewis on the radio, tried to go out of their way to temper expectations. Hubbs gets asked a lot a variation of the question: "how many wins does Butch need to keep his job?" and he always said something like, "8-4 is safe, but I could see a scenario in which 6-6 or 7-5 doesn't mean termination if the recruiting class is still good and either Dormady or Gitmo perform well." Lewis, when asked the question, said basically the same but that a loss to Vanderbilt coupled with anything less than 8 wins would mean trouble.

And also during Monday night's game, a lot of the people covering the team seemed like they had been holding some negative reports back. I think one of the Rocky Top Talk guys said defensive backs had been a serious concern behind the scenes and Callahan from 247 made a comment about how he was surprised the drops from the WR's/inaccuracy from the QB's wasn't a more well documented issue in camp because the coaches were worried about it.

The draft is not an example/can't be used....
Barnett came in balling and kept balling, Kamara did the same, JRM and Sutton both came in already at a high level and kept it... None of these players really needed developing... tweaked, maybe... but developing no. Dobbs apparently didn't even have a QB coach...

Is this blue font?

That's BS if it's not. Sure, it takes talent to get drafted, but the talent has to be developed with some technique and fundamentals.

I will be damned if people love to criticize Butch but never give him any credit for the successes.

You don't even make sense... who's complaining?
How do you know our defense is going to be so bad based off one game with a difficult offense to defend against? Man, sounds like a toxic Vol fan just inventing things to complain about... wait, that's your dumb arse that said that... I love how you think somehow your opinion is more important or you think you know more about UT Football than others just because you post a lot...

I think this is right. A lot of my frustration is we seem to be closer to South Carolina and Kentucky than Alabama in Year 5.

I understand many feel a loyalty to Butch and I get it. I think he's done a very good job of getting us out of a major hole and he deserves to be commended for that. However, if I told you when he was hired that he would win 7 or 8 games in Year 5 and never win the East, I think most of us would have opted to go elsewhere.

Agreed. You can't look at one 5 star who hasn't played well and say "see! this staff can't develop!" and then look at another 5 star who is awesome and goes to the NFL and say, "he didn't need development, he was already elite!"

Dang just heard official for state of Florida say this storm is stronger than Hurricane Andrew. Florida may have to change their plans to play the game

They're playing it at noon now to beat the storm.

They'll get it over with before it hits the central part of the state. But the worry to me would be the safety of the players and fans. They would have very limited time to evacuate if that game takes place.

Right on.

The same could be said for damn near every BAMA player and no one claims Saban can't develop talent.

IMO, 7-5 was only a scenario if we lost to GT. I think the coaches are more concerned with SEC play. If we go 7-5 now, that's 3-5 in the SEC. Even 8-4 is 4-4 in the SEC-- and that is unlikely to win the SECE. It could even put us T-3. A good SEC showing matters to Currie-- a lot.

I don't know the timing of it all but it sounds bad.

I remember you now. You're the verbal diarrhea guy. Didn't realize you were still mad about that.

Yeah, depending on the severity of the storm our game may be in jeopardy to be held in Gainesville. If they get a direct hit that stadium could be seriously messed up and they'll be mass power outages, flooding, impassable roads, damaged hotels, etc.

They and FSU will definitely have very lightly attended games. Probably just the fans from the area that planned on riding out the storm anyway.

Larry is money on injury or other related info based news, his opinions don't count for a whole lot though. He has taken a marked turn for the overly negative the past few years.
