And he shouldn't have had to. We should have won the game easily. We could have won that game by 4 touchdowns. Coaching let us down. There is no doubt about it. The reason we are always in games like this is coaching. With a top coach, we blow Florida out 3 straight years, GA two straight years, OU in 2015, we beat Bama in 2015, etc. Coaching is why we continually find ourselves in these games. Just like App state last year and GT this year. There is no reason why a team as talented as we are should be in these games. We are as talented as Clemson. This is coaching.

You can't just say we would have won every single close game with a different coaching staff. Doesn't work that way. Every coaching staff gives away games they shouldn't

Being able to run>Not being able to run. (In this offense)

And JG has already shown he has a better deep ball than QD. We aren't winning big with QD. Bama, Uga, Lsu will pick him off ALL DAY long.

You may be correct. QD has played just well enough and JG hasn't looked good enough to find out now. QD gets the Georgia game to prove he is the guy imo

I doubt Tennessee covers vs Umass. Noon kicks are known for let downs. I think we either start super sloppy and win by 15/20. Or just play bad all game and win by 7. There's gonna be lots of fans booing....

I think our close games though wouldn't have been close with a top coach. Some of them, sure. Every coach has faults it seems except Saban. But we were so much better than OU it wasn't even funny. But when we got up, Butch took his foot off the gas. He has admitted that he has a certain score in mind and they try to get that score etc. That was an easy win and Butch blew it. Same thing with Florida in 2015 and of course this year. Do you really believe that if we had a high level coach that we lose that game Saturday?

Team could come out guns blazing. I'm sure they want to get this awful taste out of their mouths.

I think it is more likely they come out flat as your are describing, but I think there is also a decent chance they come out with their hair on fire and boat race UMass.

I'm afraid its going to be ugly. Ohio all over again

But he's not playing well enough. He's bottom 10 in SEC in almost every passing category, except for yards(#5) and that's because he has the 2nd most attempts lol. That may be too late, we can't JG come in 3rd quarter down by 20 and expect him to lead us to a win, we lose to Uga and the season is very likely over.

We definitely win on Saturday with a better coach. We win a lot of games we lost with a better coach. But to say that you also have to concede that we would have potentially lost other games that Butch won with a different coach. He has had some very good wins here. But a lot of ugly, ugly losses.

It's not like Dooley where literally any other coach would have done better in almost every facet of the job. Butch is simply mediocre overall. He excels at recruiting and motivating his players and running a clean program, but he's abysmal at managing the roster, developing talent, and winning (important) games on Saturdays that don't involve insanely heroic plays and his guys overcoming his coaching.

Na. Ohio was a good MAC team last year (won their division, nearly beat W. Michigan) that went to a bowl. We were flat that game coming off the huge VT win.

UMass is dreadfully bad, and we are going to be coming in hungry.

I'm not calling for a brilliant, 77-0 type game, but I think we'll be in control the whole way. Something like 45-13

If we come out with our hair on fire, that'd make me pretty optimistic heading in to the Uga game tbh.

JG needs to see extensive playing time against UMASS, let him get into a rythem and see what he's capable of. We've seen what QD has done and I really don't JG could be any worse.

I'm more worried that JG will leave than I am for this season. We aren't going to win anything of significance with Butch this season. It isn't happening. But if JG leaves then the next coach loses a potential championship level QB.

I agree. Every big win he has had has been some kind of heroic effort. His biggest win was Florida last year and it took Dobbs going off in the second half to erase an early 21-0 deficit. He won big in the bowl games, but who doesn't against that Iowa and NW teams.

JG needs to play the majority of the game even if he doesn't start. He needs 25-30 attempts. Then we can see if he might be a better option.

Honestly, Butch is still the guy and he's coaching for his job the rest of the season. He's coached football players his whole adult life. If and when he and his staff think that JG gives them the best chance to keep their jobs, he will play.

Until that time, all of this rhetoric about giving up the season just to placate a r-freshman QB who has shown more of a negative attitude than he has potential to be an elite QB seems really misguided, imo.

I think we'll see plenty of JG Saturday, and they'll keep bringing him along. But if this staff doesn't think they can win with him, then there is no point in playing him. If he doesn't like it, then move the hell on. We have good QBs coming in next year too. One guy is not bigger than the program.

I'm as down on Butch as anyone. But you're letting that cloud your judgment. We've seen 12 pass attempts from JG. 4 were completions. There were 2-3 drops, but he had some BAD misses. And he fires every pass like it's a heat-seeking missile. When those balls deflect, you are asking for turnovers.

I'm not saying QD is leaps and bounds better, but you're acting like we know that the 2nd coming of Cam Newton is sitting on the bench...we simply don't know that, and the only evidence we have doesn't suggest that.
