And he shouldn't have had to. We should have won the game easily. We could have won that game by 4 touchdowns. Coaching let us down. There is no doubt about it. The reason we are always in games like this is coaching. With a top coach, we blow Florida out 3 straight years, GA two straight years, OU in 2015, we beat Bama in 2015, etc. Coaching is why we continually find ourselves in these games. Just like App state last year and GT this year. There is no reason why a team as talented as we are should be in these games. We are as talented as Clemson. This is coaching.
Being able to run>Not being able to run. (In this offense)
And JG has already shown he has a better deep ball than QD. We aren't winning big with QD. Bama, Uga, Lsu will pick him off ALL DAY long.
You can't just say we would have won every single close game with a different coaching staff. Doesn't work that way. Every coaching staff gives away games they shouldn't
I doubt Tennessee covers vs Umass. Noon kicks are known for let downs. I think we either start super sloppy and win by 15/20. Or just play bad all game and win by 7. There's gonna be lots of fans booing....
You may be correct. QD has played just well enough and JG hasn't looked good enough to find out now. QD gets the Georgia game to prove he is the guy imo
I think our close games though wouldn't have been close with a top coach. Some of them, sure. Every coach has faults it seems except Saban. But we were so much better than OU it wasn't even funny. But when we got up, Butch took his foot off the gas. He has admitted that he has a certain score in mind and they try to get that score etc. That was an easy win and Butch blew it. Same thing with Florida in 2015 and of course this year. Do you really believe that if we had a high level coach that we lose that game Saturday?
I'm afraid its going to be ugly. Ohio all over again
Team could come out guns blazing. I'm sure they want to get this awful taste out of their mouths.
I think it is more likely they come out flat as your are describing, but I think there is also a decent chance they come out with their hair on fire and boat race UMass.
But he's not playing well enough. He's bottom 10 in SEC in almost every passing category, except for yards(#5) and that's because he has the 2nd most attempts lol. That may be too late, we can't JG come in 3rd quarter down by 20 and expect him to lead us to a win, we lose to Uga and the season is very likely over.
We definitely win on Saturday with a better coach. We win a lot of games we lost with a better coach. But to say that you also have to concede that we would have potentially lost other games that Butch won with a different coach. He has had some very good wins here. But a lot of ugly, ugly losses.
It's not like Dooley where literally any other coach would have done better in almost every facet of the job. Butch is simply mediocre overall. He excels at recruiting and motivating his players and running a clean program, but he's abysmal at managing the roster, developing talent, and winning (important) games on Saturdays that don't involve insanely heroic plays and his guys overcoming his coaching.
JG needs to see extensive playing time against UMASS, let him get into a rythem and see what he's capable of. We've seen what QD has done and I really don't JG could be any worse.
I'm more worried that JG will leave than I am for this season. We aren't going to win anything of significance with Butch this season. It isn't happening. But if JG leaves then the next coach loses a potential championship level QB.
