Agreed on pretty much all points. Except I don't think any of the offenses we play are great. Bama looks good and UGA should be pretty decent. Outside of that, I don't see a good offense on the schedule.

Oh yea definitely non of them are great. I'm most worried about Bama. Uga worries me a little. Outside of those I don't think we play an offense that can just straight up beat us because they score so many points.

We keep talking about 2015 - I think that was Butchs most talented team. Should have beaten FL, OK, AL at their house for goodness sakes!! Didn't have as many injuries although there was a couple of major ones. Team was disciplined and not penalized very often. I haven't seen that since. We are disorganized and play loose with the ball since last year, along with more penalties. We look unprepared in most games and don't start playing well until we are in desperation mode with the score. Wth happened?

Question...

In your opinion, what would Butch have to do to win over the fanbase and prove that Saturday was a fluke?

I'm going to say that he has to win out for the rest of the regular season, make it to Atlanta (not win, per say) and win a bowl game.

Seriously.

What say you, RF?

The problem is you can't just look at the score. Even if he had caught that and we went on to win, QD still would have had a poor game. The play calling outside the 10 yard line wasn't all that bad. QD was still making the same mistakes he did vs ISU and GT.

Dormady made some catastrophic throws man

He's starting his 3rd game guys. At the Swamp no less. Yes there were some bad ones in there. But he gave us a chance to win the game late.

Don't get me wrong, I want to see JG play this weekend as well. But I haven't seen anything so far that would suggest QD is playing poorly enough that we should just run JG out there and say "whatever happens, can't be any worse." Because it def could be much worse than what we are getting out of QD right now. He gave us enough to win at Florida. That's no small accomplishment.

He'd have to win the East - which probably means only one more loss to Alabama.

I have ZERO faith that Butch Jones will play JG & Bryd in any meaningful way.

Byrd has played a lot already, drop after drop in the first game. Now he might be frustrated because once Josh Smith was healthy he jumped him in the rotation but Byrd cant complain about pt

He doesn't have to win out for me. If he beats UGA, he will be back in a better light, still knowing that his gameday calls will be frustrating. Beating UGA is huge for the psyche and the recruiting for this program right now.

If people were predicting 9-3, I don't see how that suddenly changes with one loss. Everyone basically said that he needs to win one of UF, UGA, Bama, and LSU.

Lemme armchair coach for a sec...

If I'm in Butch's shoes, I get the team and coaches together and have a heart to heart. Address the problems and concerns and tell tell the guys that each of the remaining games are now more important than ever. We need a leader(s) to step up to keep the season from spiraling out of control.

I am not sure that is the best way to go, honestly. It might put more pressure on them. He needs to figure out a way to get people to play loose and confident. We have the talent; we just need to put it together.

For me, he would have to win out except for Alabama.

regarding Dormady:

we are only a John Kelly drop on the goal line from QD overcoming poor play calling, and some inexperienced mistakes, to orchestrating a double-digit fourth quarter comeback win in the Swamp.

The ball was behind him and at his knees. That's not an ideal catch. Even if he catches it he's not in a position to turn upfield. Kelly went full Beast Mode in the game and any inference that it falls on him gives you automatic questionable e-cred.

But when does his inability to coach up the team in big games become too much to overcome?

I grew up expecting to beat everyone on the schedule. I get that Alabama is a junior pro NFL team for years to come but, at what point does the fanbase say that it's not ok to lose to at least two of your rivals?

I hope JG gets some snaps this weekend too. But to me, an ideal situation would be for QD to get the entire first half to work out some kinks, build a nice lead, and hand it over to JG for the second half. Dormady's the guy going forward, and he needs plenty of reps along with the entire 1st string offense (minus Kelly, who I hope they use sparingly).

And I really hope they use this game to build some depth across the board by getting backups some quality reps.

Trick question. :)

He can't prove it was a fluke because it's happened enough times that it's now a pattern.

And even if he wins out, it doesn't make him the right guy for the job; it just makes him more marketable. But most people would be happy with a division championship-- and I'm right there with them.

Don't disagree with any of that.

I honestly think this year's team is better than that year's team and can easily finish 9-4 or better. Just need to settle down, block out the noise, and the coaches need to reassess what they are doing and put our players in the best position to win.

We can absolutely do this.

I think that the defense is better and the offense could be very good if we can get it to the right guys some more.

Imagine if we beat FL. LSU looks beatable at home. UGA at home. We are SEC frontrunners.

and nobody wants to accept 9-3... we all want a 10 win season and butch should have given us one by now. but... with a new QB i think any of us would have agreed to 9-3 to start the year with expectations for 10 or more in 2018.

Need to pick off UGA or LSU and win the rest (minus bama). Butch's problem hasn't been the big teams (struggled to beat them.. for sure) it's been vandy and USCjr. if they are a problem this year, he'll get fired.

I was a freshman at UT in 1998, but that time has come and gone...both for me physically, with free time, and for our football team. Until last year, when was the last time we beat UF and UGA in the same year? 2004? And that year we lost to a bad Notre Dame team.

He has found ways to get himself out of the corner in the past. I walked out of the Arkansas game in 2015 and literally told my buddies that I am probably done "with the Butch Jones experience." I came back. The last two years have been the first time in probably 8 years that I thought we had a legitimate chance of beating everyone on our schedule.

If he beats UGA and everyone else that he is supposed to, then I will feel much better. That means he can withstand adversity. If we go 7-5, then he can't.

I said before the season anything worse than 8-4 and it's failure and I'd prefer him to be gone. 8-4 is ok, wouldn't complain too much if he was fired or stayed. Anything better than 8-4 is definitely a successful season and he deserves a chance to come back if he wants it.
