He might decide to stay in Blacksburg but I'm guessing quite a few teams are going to make him offers. $ talks. According to this article he makes $3.25 mil this year and it goes up slightly each year of his contract. Buyout this fall would be $6mil, $5mil next year, etc...

Here is where I wonder if UT goes for a guy that is a current HC vs a coordinator. The buyouts just from HC's for Butch and Fuente would be a 13.5 million dollar change. However OC's/DC's have barely anything.

If Mason, Smart, and Muschamp do well this season, I think Currie will take a long look at Venables. He's those guys on steroids, IMO. Great recruiter and probably a better DC.

All I know is that IF we do end up hiring a new HC after this season the new HC should stay away from words such as "individuals" unless, of course, they want to cause 85% of Volnation to have a heart attack.

You know, I might even consider hiring Derek Mason but I didn't really like the way he handled the rape issues there. I know it all occurred before be took the job but something about the way he acted rubbed me the wrong way.

Yeah looking into it it seems his defenses weren't all that great. May be a product of superior talent

He was never fired. Mike stoops was gonna be Co-DC like they were before. Idk if Venables didn't like that or what. But shortly after is when he left for Clemson

Lots of good jobs are going to open up this fall. Should be very competitive in the Chip Kelly, Dan Mullen, Justin Fuente, etc. sweepstakes. Jobs like UT, UCLA, A&M, LSU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and many others.

Only way LSU opens up is if Alleva is fired also. Could happen but I doubt LSU or Nebraska open up unless they both have losing seasons.

I think we need a larger sample size on Canales before we say the hire was a bust. The issue is QD's inconsistency and decision making. He may just be overthinking the situation and not playing loose. We saw in the GT game that he can play.

We also saw it in the Florida game 2nd half. He just needed some help on the outside.

Bob Shoop just let out a sorta sad chuckle and said again for the second time in two years that he's never been apart of such an injury plagued team.

He said he doesn't know why we get so unlucky, it's not strength training or nutrition and most all injuries have been on fluke plays.

Also talking about the secondary and "IF" we get Evan Berry back.

He said since he's become the coordinator, our Achilles heel has always been giving up explosive game changing plays way too often.

Pretty awesome what the program has done for a lot of the kids and their families in Florida. Credit where credit is due.

He's the highest realistic choice. We aren't getting Gruden or Kelly. With the way the admin spends, offer 5 mil or so to Mullen. Then move down the list. We need a proven head coach from P5 that has shown the ability to do more with less. IMO that shows he will just need more resources and he would do better.

But yes Mullen only!!!!

I think you're discounting his relationships in Starkville. We want him...let's get him might not be in play. Not hating on him as a hire but he's not this messiah Saban Urban embodiment imo.
