I know, tl:dr. Ignore if you already know this.

UT admin/Haslam's will determine what the end goal for the football program is. If it is to win championships, they will eventually make the change before the roster and fan support stagnates to total apathy. If it is to be competitive and keep the money train rolling, they will roll with Butch, his 7-8 win regular seasons, and his constant BS'ing.

If it is the later, the ONLY way for their goals to be adjusted is as has been done with Dools and Fulmer. Stop going, stop spending money, and voice discontent en masse. Doing it respectfully is encouraged.

However, I firmly believe UT has made the turn by hiring a decisive AD who has the abilities and respect from those in authority to make changes. Regardless of some of us being done with him, one bad loss doesn't get Butch canned. Losing other winnable games will, especially if it is due to a lack of basic football intelligence. Butch is Hart's choice. So...

I wanted Blackburn because I had discussions with him and knew some of his long term friends who loved the guy and knew he could get it done. I also know a handful of Currie's long term supporters whom I respect greatly that have clued me in on him. I feel assured they made the right hire for UT at AD. He is up to the task and has the burning passion to MUTGA, which is all I want for Vol athletics. He began healing a major rift with the LV decision. He appears to have made a quality hire in baseball. He obviously knew CRB well from the Big 12 and we will see his support or lack thereof in the coming months. He will have hard HC decisions to make on LV basketball as well as football. But unlike Hart and Hamilton he will not panic and will be executing a solid plan for the eventuality before it happens. He's known well by all of the agents and national coaching community, which adds to the perception of stability under his watch. Whoever he recommends I am good with going forward because I know it will be well reasoned, bounced off many people with strong football knowledge, and will have the mission of championships in mind.

It's fun to throw out names we would like to see as HC. It's more fun to win at a high level with whoever the HC is because it means the players are developed well and playing as a team.

I really believe Currie will make that big hire we all have wanted for so long to get Vols back to Elite

He's the highest realistic choice. We aren't getting Gruden or Kelly. With the way the admin spends, offer 5 mil or so to Mullen. Then move down the list. We need a proven head coach from P5 that has shown the ability to do more with less. IMO that shows he will just need more resources and he would do better.

But yes Mullen only!!!!

CDM already makes $5 mil and MSU will match anything up to $7 mil to keep him. Not the same MSU of old regarding money.

I think one thing to keep in mind regarding Currie and his decision on Jones is that ADs make their name on their coaching hires. I know there are facility projects etc but people remember coaching hires. I think that is why Butch wasn't extended. I think Currie wanted to see the product this year and make a decision. If you want to make a change and bring in your guy then following a lack luster 7-5, 8-4 year is the time to do it and for the most part have the fans behind you.

If we go 7-5 the vast majority of fans will be behind making a move. Would be a very popular opinion in the fan base, Currie would have the support.

Lots of good jobs are going to open up this fall. Should be very competitive in the Chip Kelly, Dan Mullen, Justin Fuente, etc. sweepstakes. Jobs like UT, UCLA, A&M, LSU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and many others.

Would Fuente come here? I assume VT has him on a huge buyout. Would love to have him.

If we do fire Butch, I feel like we're going to bungle the process, take too long, and see Mullen, Norvell, Martin, Venables, etc., get snatched up by other schools.

Introducing the next head football coach of the University of Tennessee Volunteers: SCOTT SATTERFIELD!

I like Fuente, but I seriously doubt he would leave VT. I think he likes what VT gives... a chance with a good program with no overwhelming expectations in a division he can compete and win in yearly. JMO.
