Yep. Several times, you could tell QD and the WRs weren't on the same page. CBJ has been all over the receivers for lazy route running and not keeping their eyes on the ball in practice. Callaway did a great job of helping the QB out by going up and getting the ball. Reminded me of Justin Hunter before he got hurt.

Damn you're right. And JJ is Darick.

Considering ga tech went 3-0 last yr vs SEc and 5-1 last 6 before Monday night then I'd say that's a stupid statement by Larry. Ga Tech would probably beat a few SEC teams head to head. He is over rating the rest of the conference. Bama and UGA are the most talented with everyone else bunched together.

Vandy actually gave up more points and ypc against GT than we did. UGA and UK both allowed well over 5 ypc as well.

The difference was 3rd down defense. GT converted 72% of the time against us. 53% against Vandy. Under 40% against UGA and UK.

If we'd held GT to around 50% on 3rd down, we get 3-4 more possessions and maybe the offense hits its stride earlier than the 4th quarter.

Don't know their roster very well but it's a safe bet it's as many or more than us.

But are they the program we need to aspire to be right now? I don't think so

I'll try to do some research to see what we're going up against. Duke Dawson, a DL, a LB, and an OL are the only ones I can think of rn.

So we are behind 3 teams who are the banner school in states that are recruiting gold mines and the word you use to describe that is "solid?"

Not to mention it's kinda crazy to predict how many we have drafted before we even play the season

Yeah. Even crazier is to say "well we are behind this team that's won the east the last two years and we haven't went to Atlanta in 10 years but that's not who we need to aspire to be."

Hmmm. This entire board spends an entire year downing The direction of Floridas program and you give this. lol

He's mostly correct

Idk about the record breaking defense thing. I kinda think the strength of this team may end up being pass defense/pass rushing, so playing teams that throw might balance that out a bit.

But I can kinda see what he's getting at about development. If it's not development, then at the very least the staff has not done a great job taking advantage of the talent and athleticism on the roster. In week one we've already seen two examples of guys (Bituli and Callaway) who are obvious playmakers who would've been buried on the depth chart if not for injuries. We've seen similar things in the past (Devrin Young over Berry at KR, Jumper over Kirkland, Hurd over Kamara, Dobbs being buried on the depth chart).

So idk. Part of me worries about development. We basically only had 6 DL ready to go for week one. Not getting a bit more out of guys like Alexis Johnson at DT is concerning. You'd hope they'd have guys like Deandre Johnson and Matt Butler far enough along to contribute 10-15 snaps out of nearly 100. Ja'Quain Blakely looks like he might be destined to be a career long punt protector. Jack Jones has as much upside as anybody not named Trey Smith on our OL and he was very fundamentally unsound Monday.

I think it's not terribly unfair to look at some spots on the roster and ask why we haven't gotten a bit more out of them. Maybe it's more about risk aversion than development, idk. But it will be a question mark until we see some current starters take a step forward and some depth guys start to make meaningful contributions.

He's number 1 even when JJ comes back. Wait till Byrd clicks. This offense is going to be insane.

We need a little more out of Dormady to make it insane. He needs to be a little more patient with his reads and deliver the ball more consistently (both of which he is able to do.)

Fairest post of the day. Agreed with all of it.

I'm downing the direction of it. Sinking fast.

Talent level still very high and they've managed to get into the east two years in a row.

You want to move the goal posts. "4th most draft picks is solid but not as good as Florida. But we don't need to aspire to be them."

Move the goalposts much? Bet the tech kicker wishes you moved the posts so he could hit one.

I don't think florida is going to stay in the top 4 with the way they are recruiting and their program seemingly falling quickly like you say. If we are going to be that elite team everyone wants we better be at least top 4 and honestly higher.

I think they have a pretty good shot at 3/4 Dl in their two deep getting drafted if all the eligible guys declare. Goolsby and their other TE have a decent shot.

Not all of those guys will go, obviously, but out of the 2 TEs and 5 DL they'll have eligible, it wouldn't surprise me to see half of them get drafted.
