I don't think florida is going to stay in the top 4 with the way they are recruiting and their program seemingly falling quickly like you say. If we are going to be that elite team everyone wants we better be at least top 4 and honestly higher.

We need to win the freakin east. People talking about national champs and winning 11 games a year are misguided and unrealistic.

Win the east. That's next. Then we can talk about the next level.

Top 4 is insanely good for where we were the 3 years prior. Count up those stats. 3 drafted in 3 years. Two years with zero.

I think some position groups have developed better and faster than others. I do not believe that we have done a very good job of developing linebackers or cornerbacks. Safeties are not that much better. I think that Vickers has developed, our DE developed well, our RB have developed well and some WR have developed well. Our OL has been OK, but could have been better from a development standpoint. Our lack of significant S and C really set us back last year. The position groups that have developed the best, I think, had the best coaches. I don't think Martinez did a dang thing while he was here and Butch kept him around way too long. I think that Thig should be on thin ice as he is not recruiting at the same level as he was when he arrived and his players just are not developing very well. I think Strip and Gillespie and Azzani to some degree, have done a good job with developing their position groups. Dobbs developed a great deal while he was here under DeBord and Sheridan. He could have been even better.

Havnt seen this mentioned but the two keepers on the zone read where just enough to keep the D honest I thought. QD doesn't have to be a bigtime runner just a few times like that.

The second one was an inverted veer, not a zone read. I know it's semantics, but I like to spread football knowledge when I can.

Callaway not getting targeted until Jennings was hurt is hilarious. Identifying playmakers is lacking for sure. It's like once a guy is s starter they turn blind to anything else. Just like Worley over Dobbs a few years back. Jumper over Kirkland early on the other year. And it continues on..... play the best players and forget this seniority nonsense. That age of football is over with. Play the best and win or be replaced. Callaway probably could've helped last year while they were busy not using an Army All-American DB in Byrd. Smh

Barnett and Kamara I suppose were hyper-developed. (Does that sound sufficiently negative?) Had development been slowed they'd be in this years draft. This is on Butch 100%.

Don't know their roster very well but it's a safe bet it's as many or more than us.

But are they the program we need to aspire to be right now? I don't think so

From what I can tell they only have 3 guys likely of getting drafted; Duke Dawson, possibly Cece Jefferson (jr), and FS Marcell Harris (sr). I don't think any would be high picks.

For us I think its possible for TKjr, Kendrick, Robertson, mayyybe Thomas, and Vickers to make it to the draft. If John Kelly balls out like I full expect him to he would definitely have a place in the first 4 rounds I think. Don't know if he'd go though.

Agreed. I didn't like some of the throws or his mechanics on some throws.

He doesn't always load his weight well and finish the thrown. He short arms it a few times.

I think GT would prob go about .500 playing in the SEC East. Same as us.

Some throws he was actually fading back. His arm was strong enough to compensate for it but that has to be cleaned up.

I think they have a pretty good shot at 3/4 Dl in their two deep getting drafted if all the eligible guys declare. Goolsby and their other TE have a decent shot.

Not all of those guys will go, obviously, but out of the 2 TEs and 5 DL they'll have eligible, it wouldn't surprise me to see half of them get drafted.

Actually yeah I could see, besides Cece, Sherit getting drafted. But besides them, their DTs are both juniors and haven't shown much to make real noise for themselves.

I'd like to see him take advantage of his legs just a bit more. I know he's a pass first guy, but taking advantage of the opportunities he has to run would likely open some things up in the passing game for him.


I saw one play where he could've easily run to convert a 3rd and short (and probably gotten out of bounds untouched...it was that open) and chose to make a difficult pass into tight coverage instead.


On one of our late TDs, if he keeps the ball instead of giving it to Kelly, he walks into the endzone untouched. Luckily Kelly is a beast and able to punch it in anyway.

Yes every program recruiting at our level should have multiple juniors declaring every year. Maybe JJ, KM, JK and Taylor do that this year. It's possible

yeah i agree , i also expected quicker throws. I think thats what the coaches were anticipating, dropping into a zone really caught QD and the receivers by surprise. If you look at the forst incompletion it looked low and behind JJ...well if the pass had been to where JJ was a linebacker had an interception. They need to see that coverage and settle into a soft spot in the zone for the completion. Now if teams start dropping into zones we def need to takw advantage of that with the run game

I was thinking more about Zuniga than their DTs, really. Clark has good enough size and may get drafted if he has a good season and does well at the combine. Not too high on the other guy.

Fans who do things like use players getting drafted against the coaches are toxic. "Well all those guys were good before they got here." Like other programs are taking slow fat kids and making them Deion Sanders.

Same as people who wait til a player has a good game and then complain they weren't used sooner/more often.

Same as people watching our QB get drafted and the only thing they want to talk about is him not having a QB coach even though he did. When in reality he actually had an NFL QB coach for two years and he improved each year.

This kinda crap is rampant in our fanbase.

While I hate to go against the father of the Vol Fan Constitution, the fact that we had six players drafted is completely irrelevant to whether this staff can develop talent. The majority of players played for positional coaches that are no longer here. The offensive coordinator is no longer here. The defensive coordinator was in his first year. Sure there is some bleedover, and I'm sure we all agree the Gillespee's ability is above reproach. But using last year's draft as proof either way whether our current staff can develop talent is flawed.

My money is on GT making serious noise in the ACC this year. I won't be surprised if they are playing in the ACC championship. We'll see, but I think they are a very good team. I think this will be looked back on as an impressive win when all is said and done.
