I think State would be a great cultural fit with the SEC. I think they would take to it very quickly and would be anxious to get away from UNC, similar to the way aTm was with Texas.
I agree with all of this, maybe not the alumni, that’s debatable, but State fans are very loyal and would love to one up the Heels.Agreed. They are much more like an SEC than Duke, UNC or Wake. NC State has more alumni fans than the other schools and they care much more about football. Wake has football support but would be a cellar dweller in SEC. UNC and Duke have more non-alumni fans and stronger basketball support but State's basketball support is also strong and they have a good baseball program. State's admissions standards are also more in line with most of SEC.
The only drawback would be making it harder to pull elite NC football recruits if state joined the SEC. We would still be able to recruit Charlotte well, though.
It was that way even 10 years ago when I lived there. It's a very diverse city and has lots of great suburbs. I lived and worked in Cary/Mooresville which is a mini Silicon Valley....lots of tech companies there. I also lived in Apex and then Fuquay-Varina.
Lots of people from the DMV area there (D.C., MD, VA), lots of New Yorkers, Californians and Ohio transplants. I'm sure there are even more now. Also very international....I met a lot of people from India, China, Korea and the Middle East. Also a large Mormon population.
As much as I love TN, most of NC is better maintained and prettier due to the state income tax. The jobs mostly pay better than East TN jobs and sales tax was lower so quality of life is very good. You also have beaches, mountains, farmland and hilly country. Raleigh is perfectly centered 1.5 to 3 hours from everything. I enjoyed having all 4 seasons like TN but the winters are sunnier and have more 60+ degree days. You don't get that 4-5 months of depressing cloudy drizzle like TN winters. Only thing I didn't like was the lack of passion for college football. Didn't really feel like a Southern city without it.

There are plenty of UNC grads around here too, but I agree that State has much more of an SEC culture than Carolina or Duke. I think UNC is much better fit for the B1G than the SEC. I can’t imagine the academia of Michigan, Wisconsin, UNC and UVA all in one room together discussing all the worlds problems and how they’re above every other public university that plays competitive athletics.NC State has an enrollment of almost 35,000 and UNC is around 29,000. Both similar in size to UT. 6,000 additional students is not a huge amount but it adds up over the years. I also feel like NC State graduates stay closer to the Raleigh-Durham area then UNC graduates. State has larger sports facilities for the most part and raw bigger crowds. From a TV contract perspective, UNC would definitely bring in a larger market but I feel like NC State is much more like an SEC school.
Football is where the money is, but UNC basketball would give the confrence 2 blue bloods and the SEC could be the best confrence in both sports.NC State has an enrollment of almost 35,000 and UNC is around 29,000.
