Recruiting forum off topic thread (no politics, covid, or hot button issues)

No, it’s not. There is not a freedom from consequences. Freedom of speech is from government action.

Freedom of consequence? What are you talking about? Words?
Keep diminishing your talent pool. You know the things that matter that keep you employed in HR. And you will suffer.

Hey..back to the Box..Should you hire someone who had an abortion, smokes weed?
We can play this game all day.

Ignore it all you want or know the legal ramifications. Have fun with that.

If he’s the owner of the company, then he’s the decision-maker and sets values for his company. Then, the market (i.e. consumers) determine if they want the product based on company service, product, values, etc.

These things are not difficult.
You’re really trying to simplify what is becoming a real difficulty in our society where people are heading in two different directions in values. And it is becoming increasingly hard to be able to say what you think without being attacked by someone. In other words, free speech is being threatened. Again, not referring to this situation in particular.

Look…..I did not mean to make this a big thing. I simply stated that employers look at social media prior to interviews so be carefully what you post. That is fact, not my opinion. Do with it what you want. I’ve already said religion, and others are not what I’m talking about. I’m talking blatant racism, drug use, violence, or anything else illegal. That is all. How about that win Saturday😀
I wasn’t talking about you. Just got me thinking because I didn’t realize that was a general practice. And concerned how far that could be taken.

Good Luck finding candidates that don't meet your cultural purity test...which btw is not even measurable other than some CCP social credit score.

Just learn about what free speech really is. I don’t get on social media and write a stream of consciousness, so I am good.

If company owners can’t hire and fire people based on their own criteria, then it’s exactly what you are referencing.

My guess is that his employer took a quick scroll down his Twitter page and saw the nonstop vitriol (most of it towards the Vols) and decided this dude isn't of the greatest character. Here are some highlights

Looks like he deleted his account.

That really sounds more like a discussion for the political forum, to be honest.

If ones company is so pussified to the point that it cannot handle the SM comment of an individual on a satirical 1970's movie, then one is beyond help. You don't know context or that person's heart. Just toss it.
Should Hollywood be cancelled?

😂 So you say when someone takes it to the logical conclusion of what is beginning to become a problem. Just want others to think about where this could go. But I am dropping it.

There’s still a celebration going on!

Companies already cannot hire and fire based on their own criteria according to the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Whether that's a violation of the 1st amendment is a different discussion. But the line already exists, so there should be open dialogue about where exactly it should be.

Not denying that..you find employees that meet your culture.
This is CCP social credit **** and denies the 1st Amendment
I don't think you have a full understanding of the first amendment if you think an employer can't fire an employee for things they say.

The first amendment protects you from being thrown in jail for saying stupid sh*t. It doesn't protect you from losing your job for saying stupid sh*t.

Try it. Cuss out your boss. Then get a lawyer and declare your first amendment rights were violated when you got fired for words. I suspect you won't win.

This isn't cussing out a bioss. So forget that rhetoric.

I get it. Every employee should have to right to hire and fire. Does that include political ideology?

But you wanna hang your hat in this pussy **** and the expense of firing a possible valuable experienced employee. more power to ya.

Although supremely qualified for our position on such a no relevant matter to the prosperity to our company , I disagree with your premise. Cancelled if I am hiring,.

See where this goes?

“Possible valuable experienced employee”???

Haha, apparently he wasn’t because that’s the decision they made. If his value far outweighed his stupid remarks, then he would be kept. It’s called the market. He was not worth the trouble…literally.

Then they should of fired him for performance not a tweet.

I see companies having trouble hiring qualified employees, frankly any employees, so hanging your hat on the comment of a 1970 satirical movie? Like I said..good luck

That is part of his performance, and I doubt it was over one tweet. You are making vast assumptions. I’m done with it. This isn’t rocket science.

Every situation stands on its own and I think you're dragging a lot of hypotheticals into this conversation that just have nothing to do with this particular situation. I think the discussion you seem to be aiming for might best be suited for the political forum. No offense.
Maybe

This is the thing. No one actually cares that much about this guy one way or the other. He's just today's Two Minutes of Hate and then he'll be tossed in the trash and forgotten. This is about power, about proving you can shut people up if you scream loud enough and long enough.
I think this guy is a flicking idiot that deserved to be ridiculed unmercifully...I don't care about him other than as a human being. I don't like seeing peoples livelihoods destroyed just for saying stuff that people don't like.

I agree there is a line, I just don't agree with where that line has been drawn, and I don't have anything for the SJWs that have drawn it.
