'24 Recruiting Forum: Official Arkansas Pregame/Game Thread

Everybody gets a piece of this, I have said earlier this season our play calling has been terrible. The QB coach has to get Nico to take the check down instead of forcing it into a covered guy deeper downfield. The defense made a 58% passer look like a Heisman candidate, we are not what we thought we were and if we had pulled it out we still deserved to lose that game. I was shocked how bad Nico looked and would have probably given a series or two to the backup from UCF. In short there was nothing about this game that gives me any confidence for the remainder of the season, the cupcakes and a below average OU masked the problems with this team. Only thing I know for sure is I miss Hooker and Golesh this looked bad, we were never in this game and no the refs had nothing to do with it, we stunk period, own it. I thought the wide spread was to loosen up the defense but if we hardly pass more than 7 yards down the field we aren't loosening them up at all. Where are our 6-4 receivers that run 4.3 ? Hope I'm just pissed but I saw nothing to make that **** show seem like a one off.

The defense was very good … Up until the last drive when we played a conservative shell and gave up everything underneath to a QB who just walked off the bench. 🤢

all of the coaches coached scared.
The offense has to change. The o line has proven time and time again it can not protect. So why are we in so much 5 man protection? We went max protect once, and the deep shoot squirrel was there (all be it on a 3rd down smh)

The offense we used for the NC State game, probably should be how we play.
Great coaching cultivate a system around the players strengths that they have. I thought we turned that corner, we haven’t.

Off a bye week, this was a disgusting display . Seriously. Up 14-3 and we lose to THIS TEAM. Nah unacceptable.

Here’s the kicker, if we fix this crap, we can still make the playoffs. Get this **** together Heupel.

I don’t understand why we are so scared to call plays with the intent of him keeping the ball to run it. He gets hit hard when he sits in the pocket and he’s gotten hit hard when he scrambles, so why are we trying to protect him, especially when it cost us the game?

No one said he's a baby. Just inexperienced. Going to make bone headed mistakes. Every single team we've played has thrown out some defense they didn't put on film.
Turnover free last night so boneheaded mistakes aren’t the problem; generating no real passing attack is. I would actually feel better about a few boneheaded plays mixed around some passing production

I’m afraid that Heupel isn’t going to unleash Nico until we’re already out of playoff contention. And then he will see that Nico could have played great the whole time if he had just trusted him and been willing to accept some mistakes here and there.

Someone in my group chat asked “why does squirrel white get so many targets?”

And I seriously can’t think of a reason. He’s not great after the catch, hes not shifty, he doesnt make people miss, he doesnt break tackles, doesn’t have a huge catch radius and lately, he hasn’t had the surest hands.

With all the offensive weapons we have, im baffled at our game plan.

They don’t have any outside runs

The don’t let the qb run on any designed plays.

There’s really no easy throws in the route tree except the screen to squirrel that goes for 2 yards and nothing more ever.

Sampson is a great pass catcher and that skillset is not used at all by our staff.

The middle of the field is pretty much never utilized while other teams do it to us constantly.

There’s no wrinkles in the offense at all

Just the same 4-5 plays with the same boring, predictable 1st and 2nd down calls.

Also you can’t play this scheme and not play with tempo. It’s just a joke in so many ways right now.

This offense really blows. They need to self scout badly. I could tell you what every 1st and 2nd down call will be from my couch so you know other DCs are aware.

Shouldn’t be returning points either. Give it to Boo. Maybe he makes a freshman mistake or 2 but he’s the kind of athlete that changes games.

It’s kind of crazy that people can’t just accept that it was Hooker who was the once in a generation talent. Star rankings are great, but evaluators miss. He was awesome.
I’m over the star rankings. This Bama team is the highest star rated team in history and they just lost to Vanderbilt. Our highest rated QB ever is another Joe Milton. And our two star nobody transfer was our best QB since Manning.

Our Offense straight sucked. Coached scared and called vanilla plays not to lose. Refs helped arky anyway they could, zero holding penalties. Defense on their last drive couldn't stop most high schools.

I said a couple of times, it would mainly come down to our Oline. And it did, we got whipped the entire game on the Oline and nothing on offense was able to gel and get going. No time for WRs to develop routes.

Unless something DRASTICALLY changes with this team and coaching, we will honestly be lucky to win 8. FL is 50/50, we are not beating AL/GA, and KY and Vandy may whip us as well at this point.

Very disappointing tease at the beginning of the season with us playing bad teams and thinking we are that good and everyone getting excited. Fooled most media folks, so no shame in it fooling us as well. Dang, really wanted us to take the next step, but looks like we are just the same team, different coach.

Just can't understand how we can play that bad and have no consistent open WRs with all the talent and weapons we have on offense and a Oline that is supposed to be a veteran group of experienced guys. Blows my mind... Coaching.

Because the OC is creative with his playcalling and he’s not scared to let his QB make plays with his legs! If we would do the same with Nico, it would open up this offense so much!
It's not just letting Nico keep it. Play tempo, call the normal plays you called the first 3.5 games, and win or lose by that. It's crazy how conservative Heupel was from the very first offensive snap.

Our entire WR room are newspaper hero’s. Thornton is the only one who looks dangerous on the field. We heard how great Brazzell was going to be all offseason and he looks like a below average sec WR.

Also, said it in another thread but the route trees in this offense take entirely too long to develop with a poor OL and a frosh QB. Nico has the ability to make throws in space over the middle. We can’t make a living on wide set 9 routes or wheel concepts.

The only joke I saw tonight was Heups coaching. Comparing CWS and super regional losses to losing to a trash Arkansas team isn't the flex you think. Also baseball is a much more unpredictable sport than football.
So much easier to make the true “postseason” in baseball and basketball. Sure, baseball is different with how it’s played. But folks are just making **** up because of their emotions. There have been a select few teams that have dominated college football the last 15 years, and it’s tough to break in.
