Recruiting Forum: Official Oklahoma Pre-Game/Game Thread

Y'all have no idea how ready and excited I am for this game. It's the 1st of seven games for me, and this one is going to be popping from the get go. Vol Walk should be awesome.

It's all I can think about lol

I watched the '06 Cal game again tonight. I see quite a few parallels for the OU game. Highly ranked visiting team with future superstar skill players, but a young and untested QB. The good guys in Orange with questions on the defense but a rocking crowd, receivers who stepped up, and a "new" older OC (Cut).

Here's hoping the crowd stays juiced for 4 quarters and the D plays with speed and abandon, on the way to another 3 score margin of victory.

I'd love to see North get that deep post that Malone got. Or the jump ball Williams got. Personally........ He's a man-child we need to feed. Best WR on the team. IMO

Butch says he's 100%, but I'm wondering if he actually is. They used him as a decoy for a couple of games last year when he was hurt, then he had shoulder surgery. We will find out Saturday...if he isn't targeted, then we will know that he's still hurt.

Hurd dat!! Me too! I'm just hoping the weather forecast changes for the better. Rain, storms, delays, etc, could put a big damper on the crowd. Hope this stuff gets out of here by Saturday morning at the latest, so that everyone shows up in full force.

I've been going back and forth on this game for weeks. I really think it could go either way. Our struggles in the secondary have me leaning Oklahoma, 34-30. Hope like hell I'm wrong.

their secondary is terrible too. So is their O Line. If an Air Raid offense gets out of rhythm a little bit then they are done.

Everyone keeps talking secondary but this game will be decided by our front four and whether they can influence the qb, hopefully influence him through the ground.

Nice thread in the FF about Oklahoma fans confidence about the upcoming game.

TL;DR, They think they gonna blow right through us.

After watching Oklahoma's game vs Akron, I see some areas where I really think we can excel on defense. I know they didn't pull out all the stops vs akron but overall it seems like their offense is a quick out and quick slant type of offense where they're depending on yards after the catch. With how much Cam likes to jump routes I could see him picking one or maybe even 2 off if mayfield is brave enough to throw his way on one of these short out routes. I'm not so much worried about the go routes, I really think our safeties will be there more this week to help out Eman and Malik, or at least I would hope so.

Ehh, most of what I have seen makes it seem like they feel about their team Like we do about ours. Seen a lot of predictions of OK winning by 3-7

Brad Nessler was on the call for the Cal game...guess who's calling the game Sat?

On the OL (which you'll see when Freak posts the blog):

3 players starting on the offensive line for OU hadn't started a game before this season. Their LT and LG haven't played period prior to the game against Akron.

And one of them hates orange so much he won't even go outside around sunset.

Man reading that breakdown of our offense on that football concepts website got me really pumped. Especially the one about our new outside runs. We used to only be able to attack the outside by sweeps, but now we've basically created a power running play on the edge to get Hurd and Kamara in space on the edge. They are deadly and have two lineman leading the way on the edge. But we can also pound them up the middle on the inside zone and Dobbs has the option to keep it.

I also like that we showed how we can throw to the other side if the defense leans that way too much to try to stop that outside run. We did that on that one Pearson TD that got called back.

This offense is pretty slick. And our talent level on that side of the ball is as good as I've seen in a long time. I think with the options we have in the running game, and the weapons at receiver, and the gritty oline... we could be close to unstoppable.

One of those offenses where a couple weeks from now, the other team goes into the game saying "well you can't stop them, but you just try to contain them as much as possible".

Pre-Bowling Green, 9 out of 10 people would have said our defense was the strength of the team. Well we have learned a lot about our offense since then. If our defense does improve and turns out to be as good or better, we are going to destroy some folks.

Oklahoma doesn't get it. We're about to wreck their vacation to Knoxville.

As long as we avoid turnovers and don't give up any long, easy touchdowns I think we win this game shockingly comfortably.

My only issue with that video article is that Kendrick missed two out of three blocks. It didn't end up hurting us because kamara is so quick, and because Hurd ran through some people. Against Oklahoma he can't be that unsuccessful on those plays or they will not go for big gains

Yeah that's true. But we do have the talent at RB to cover up a mistake like that (sometimes). That's wasn't the case last year. I agree that Oklahoma will make things much more difficult. I just think we have so many ways we can hurt you, scheme and talent wise. I'm not sure how I would go about trying to stop us if I were a defensive coordinator. You have to just hope we make a mistake and try to capitalize.

I think Butch learned a lot from that beating we took against Oregon his first year. We will arguably have better all around talent than any of those Oregon teams that almost won national championships, but with similar schemes and ways to create space.

We also have the QB that makes it all hum.

Like their OL, ours will be tested too. We will see of there has been any real improvement.

Agreed. We pushed BG around. They sucked at containing Hurd and Kamara in the box. If we can seal the ends and get CT out there pulling we may have a great ground game.
