Recruiting Forum: UNofficial Georgia Pre-Game Thread

Instead of getting all worked up over the phrase "moral victory" why don't we all just settle in and understand what we are watching...a young team growing up before out eyes each week. It's hard to even count last year because it was pretty much all of the Dooley refugees. It is clear the play on the field is different.

Perspective says that we started the game with true freshmen at RG, RT, TE, RB, & WR. Anyone, I don't care who you are, that wants to hammer the coaching staff are delusional, unrealistic and completely lacking in perspective. Put that scenario on any other team and we would say boy that staff is doing a good job with those freshmen.

We landed two stud DL last night.

Our coach is a rising star in the football world and is working his ass off to get this team back to glory.

And our young team is playing its heart out week after week.

Good things are going to happen.

Give. It. Time.

And enjoy the ride back up. This season is young and we WILL upset a team, maybe even two.

Wise

Every remaining team on our schedule (except bama) is beatable.

I have to agree on the playcalling. Due to the shape of the OL we can't afford to put our QB back there on third and long, he'll always get killed. Why did we change from what was working, the short passes and YAC yards? With the youth we have we are much better at passing to set up the run and the occasional run,we can't run on first and second down and face third and long and win. The line looked plenty good enough for me when we weren't facing third and long. PS IMO I hope to never see Peterman on the field again, he looks about as lost as could be.(I realize he probably didn't get many reps but to see the blitz coming presnap and totally ignore it and get sacked time after time is unbelievable to me)

That is an issue on a lot of plays, I agree. But on multiple plays, especially in the first half, we lined up with 3 receivers and were trying to throw deep while UGA had 7 in the box and was sending a heavy blitz. 5 linemen can't account for all of them, there will be a free rusher. Bajakian needed to be either audibling to a quick hitter or calling that in the first place.

Once the game is posted on youtube I'll go back and post some of those plays.

Or maybe Bajakian just isn't calling plays well...

If the OL all wins their one on ones vs a 8 man box, you've still got 3 free rushers. On the plays where they sent heavily blitzes the corners were playing deep coverage. If you can show me something on film that proves me wrong please do so.

I get there are some really good calls and our guys fail to execute. But I'm afraid that more often than not he's hindering our ability to succeed rather than helping.

Again, I never played football, but a corner blitz is something for the QB to see. The OC doesn't always expect it. You look and see how the corner or LB is lined up. If his body is shaded in or toward the QB, then he is most likely coming. That is a hot read; not an OC call. Surely, Worley has the authority to do it.

IF TN just doesn't fumble in the endzone they might win the game.

or

If they don't fumble the zone read and kick the FG its a tie game.

That close....

Same thing can be said about OK. It's still a loss.

These 1 or 2 play analysis is silly. We win if we had a better OL, or more experience across the board, or a serviceable backup QB. It's that simple.

On the punt that was downed on the one... the 2nd UGA player to touch the ball, and actually down it, clearly taps a foot in the endzone. Is this not a touchback?

I thought the same thing when I saw it on replay. If it's not, then players could just stand on the goal line and just hold their arms and hands out to stop the ball from coming in.

Wut?

This was probably our best special teams game all season.

We kicked a 45yard FG, Darr averaged like 46yards a punt, our coverage units were solid except for one return, and we nearly blocked a punt. How do you blame special teams coaching for them downing us on the 1? It was just a good punt by them that fell dead at the 5.

Last sentence of mine was worded poorly. My point was just that them downing it at the 1 won them the game ultimately. That was the most important play of the game in my eyes, but it really didn't have anything to do with what our guys did.

Darr had a solid game.

I was more frustrated with some of our playcalling with the kickoff team to squib it and give them great field position than our players performance.

"Almost" blocking a punt doesn't do much for me. Our poor blocking on punt return has been evident all season. Only once with Jacob Carter deep vs ASU have we had good enough blocking for our returner to have a real shot to run with the ball.

Ethan Wolf fair catching that kickoff was not good at all. Pickett and Young each did have a nice return so that is positive. Besides the one big return from Young our blocking was poor.

I did say that Medley played a great game.

This may have been our best game all season on ST, but that doesn't mean we played well.

After a 3 point loss to UGA last year, we came out and best USCe at home.

After a 3 point loss to UGA this year, I believe we come out a beat UF at home.

We would have beat a ranked team on the road, if Worley hadn't gotten hurt. I think if he is able, we beat everyone else but Bama, even with our faulty offensive line. Sadly Peterman can't move fast enough..

Agreed, but I am assuming Bajakian has the authority to see that pre-snap and call in a new play. That is part of the point of the no-huddle. See how the defense lines up and adjust. This is partly on Worley too.

Multiple times they lined up with 7 in the box vs our 4 WR set with all 4 DBs deep. A quick pass or screen would've had lots of open space but we never went to it and we struggled on plays vs that defensive look.

Everybody needs to calm down.

I believe it was Dave Hart that said we are looking for progress. And It is 100% undeniable that we are a much much better football team and anybody who says otherwise is either blind, lying, or a troll.

I question coaches' decisions (mostly to myself) just like anyone else. But that is very easy to do when we are losing. Every fan questions decisions, even when winning. Losing, especially close games, makes things harder to accept/forgive.

The future is bright. Go big orange!

I turn that around and use it as a response to your "if" scenario....same thing could be said, its a loss. If you are going to call mine silly then yours is just as silly as mine haha

Keep in mind we have two major playmakers out. When they return we add more ammunition. I just hope Worley's injury doesn't turn into something more significant.

Returners are taught to stand on the 10 and if the ball goes over your head, then let it go. Sutton did just that. Just because you didn't like the result doesn't mean he made a mistake. More than half of those kicks go into the endzone. Fundamental football.

Others around the country are seeing it, why can't we?

Just think ... if Dooley was still the head coach there would not be almost 5900 posters on VN. Probably wouldn't be 900. Freak would be out of forum business and be selling burgers at the local burger joint.
Be thankful that we're getting the McKenzie's, Tuttle's and Taylor's. The teams that are playing us now are the lucky one's, by the last month of the season teams will not want to play UT (maybe by mid October).
Be thankful we have Butch and his crew and not Dooley and his clown show.

The college rule is the player can cross the line as long as the ball doesn't. In the nfl if the player touches the line it's a touchback.

Just go ahead and make the Florida Pregame thread.

This loss is sickening. Not because we lost, but we had plenty of opportunities and could not capitalize. Seems eerily familiar to last years game.

Go Vols

Where did I say he made a mistake?

Georgia just made a good play there. Nothing you can do. This dosn't change the fact that this play was probably the most important play of the game.

Yep, same as last year. Hopefully like last year, we come out the next game and win against a worse opponent than UGA.

Fumble in FG range and fumble in our endzone were the two plays, if we want to single them out.
