Recruiting Forum: UNofficial Mizzou Pre-Game Thread

Don't know where the marked improvement will come from on OL. Got three juniors/RS juniors getting killed. Maybe the freshmen will be better.

Otherwise, I'd like our chances to get to ATL.

How many starts did those guys have before this year, though? They might be upperclassmen, but they had no SEC experience playing behind NFL talent.

They won't be all world next year, but should be improved after a year of hard knocks.

I really think their DL substantially hurt our TE passing game. Why? Because their LBs didn't have to over commit to the run nor did they have to blitz. They could sit in that intermediate area where our TEs usually do their best work.

I meant blocking.

Good reports from Blair coming out, Kendrick looked serviceable this year and will be better next year, move Kerbyson inside where he belongs, Robertson is a year better. Wildcard could be someone like Richmond coming in and taking a tackle spot as a freshman.

Blair could be the key for sure. A decent OT would have been worth 1.5W this year.

There isn't a play I hate more than when we roll the qb and hit the TE, who is rolling with the QB, for about a 1 yard dump off. It results in the TE getting hit in the knees everytime. I was afraid Helm was hurt when it happened tonight.

gotcha.....

I noticed we sent TEs and RBs to chip on the edges quite a bit tonight. They were killing us up the middle with those stunts. I'm not an expert so I don't know if the TEs can help with that or not.

Gotta do more than chip, use them to help double team.

The people saying the OL isn't a one year fix are correct. The good news is that we won't face many defensive fronts like Mizzou's next year.

I don't really think next year will be much better. The OL is a multi year fix.

I would argue that with the ridiculously small number of players we graduate and the huge number of freshmen we're playing, we'll be moderately better next year. OL still won't be good but will be serviceable. Every other position group should be improved as well.

I hear ya...but again, they did a TON of damage with stunts that caught our interior guys out of position/off balance. I think our OL was confused as much as they were over powered tonight.

I do with what I have seen with Dobbs now. Earlier in the year, I would have agreed. But if we play an above average DL or worse, Dobbs is good enough. We may still struggle with elite defensive lines. Give me wins against 3 bad OOC games, UK, Vandy, Arkansas, and USC. Let's play ball with the others, and our defensive line will be much improved to slow them down. JMO.

You're right, still would have had problems, but 10 or so pressures/hurries/sacks came from outside.

We set a record for true freshmen started in a game and play the likely SEC East champs to a 1 possession game. It's the small things.

If the OL can incrementally improve the next 2-3 years we will be fine. I hope no one expects miracles with that unit next year. We just need improvement and a little luck on the injury front.

Not disagreeing J but the games are won in the trenches and we'll lose most of those matchups on the Oline.

This loss feels like Georgia. It sucks but I'm not devastated. Butch will run up the score on Vandy in our last home game.
