Recruiting Update 7/22

I don't have a story and I wasn't insinuating anything. I don't think Pearl cheated to get Selby to commit, and I've never said anything remotely close to that. But Selby never signed with you guys, so I think he's a bad example.

In this instance, the decommit is completely relevant. I'm also not aware that Florida was recruiting Selby or McRae, like they are (heavily) with Hubbs and Nichols.

Your arguing the complete opposite end of the spectrum. My point is Selby committed amongst the hype and excitement surrounding the weekend of the Florida game. A game we lost 30-6. Plain and simple, that weekend creates a major stir on campus and it's a weekend all sports love to bring in recruits. Stop arguing otherwise because you look foolish. I don't care if Selby decommitted an entire year later. That never was crucial to my argument that recruits get caught up in the hype of big recruiting weekends like that. In fact, you could argue that it strengthens my argument if you believe that he was mostly caught up in the hype and made a quick decision coming off the high of the excitement in campus dusting that visit.

Once again... FLORIDA IS NOT HEAVILY RECRUITING HUBBS!!!! and I've heard they are no longer HEAVILY recruiting Nichols either, after the walker committment.

Really?

Billy D flew all the way to Vegas to watch two recruits he's not recruiting?

"CCM front and center again for hubbs and nichols, he's been following them all July.

"@EvanDanielsFOX: For Austin Nichols and Robert Hubbs: Billy D, Roy Williams, Josh Pastner, Cuonzo Martin...”"

This is your quote from 3 pages earlier in this thread.

Clear something up for me....I am assuming you are a Memphis Tiger fan...WHY ARE YOU HERE AT ALL?? And why are you posting more importantly?? I just can't imagine going to a UM site....and posting would be out of the question.... Just curious!!!!

Because I live in Knoxville and follow UT basketball. Are you going to kick me out, badass?

I guess if you're looking for commitments and not necessarily signings, then you have a point. But I don't think you're making that point, are you? What good does a commitment do if the kid decommits later?

Perhaps he's there to watch Nichols, who we all admit he is recruiting. He can't help but watch Hubbs too, as they play for the same team.

Seriously dude? Are you that dense, or just being argumentative?

My point, which seems to be lost on you, is predicated on kids getting caught up in the excitement of a big recruiting weekend, which is what the Florida football weekend traditionally is for more than one sport. Selby decommitted an ENTIRE year later, which is completely irrelevant, as I'm not arguing his level of commitment or anything else other than how kids, like Selby, get caught up and make rash decisions amongst the high of an electric weekend in a college town during a whirlwind visit where they have been treated like royalty.

You don't think there was anybody else in Vegas possibly that he was there to recruit and he was just catching this game. As I said, hes still recruiting Nichols, but not heavily. And if you think he's heavily recruiting hubbs you're a fool.

Go read who hubbs says is recruiting him the hardest, Florida is nowhere on that list bruh.

I understand your point, and regarding Selby, it's not a good one. You want signings, not for s kid to commit after a visit only to decommit later. That does you no good.

Jesus Christ you really are missing it.

His point has nothing to do with signing. You said you don't think it's a good idea to bring them in because what if we lose. His point is it clearly doesn't matter if we lose because the atmosphere is still something that has a huge impact on recruits.

THAT'S IT...nobodies talking about anything else, simply that win or lose, bringing in recruits for that game usually has a positive result. The josh selby de committment is a COMPLETELY seperate topic.

Did McRae sign? Ah thought so, so even the point you're trying to make is wrong. The loss still impacted McRae enough to committ, and SIGN.

Having any recruit during Florida weekend is major IMO. In fact, that's the weekend I would want all of my big guns in town. Campus is CRAZY during that time and shows recruits, even if it's football, that our fans really love UT.

I never said it wasn't a good idea to bring them, I said t was strange to have them visit on a weekend where Knoxville gets invaded by Gator fans, and the Gators are recruiting both.

Additionally, using Selby as an example of the "hype" of the UF game is dumb, because the kid ended up decmmiting. Obviously, it didn't make that big of an impression with him.

I like MC posting here. He gets under a lot of ppls skin but that's cause he's so outspoken. I'm not on the dudes johnson or anything but I like these rival team fans coming here because they give you a different perspective outside of our fan base.

Anyways, any word on anyone else coming to town? I was really hoping something would come out about Hale being unhappy with Bama or considering UT in public.

I can agree with that, it just makes more sense to me for it to be on the Mizzou weekend, or Bama weekend.

Why give Billy D. and Florida anymore exposure to these kids than necessary?

If I'm not mistaken, he came in for the Kansas game when we knocked them off. I was hoping we could flip him back but I think Selby had a lot of shady voices in his head. Wasn't he the kid they were talking about at the Nike Camp with Cal and WWW?

He may have actually been playing for Kansas when you guys knocked them off, I can't remember.

I thought Mizzou was recruiting both as well or at least Nichols. I see what your saying where Florida would be the bigger challenge for either kid because it's a better program with a national championship winning coach but I'd rather bring 'em to town early because the hype would likely be bigger during the UF game. Bama is likely to smoke our faces and with Mizzou being later in the year, we might not have as much buzz with a couple of loses by then. With the Florida game, we should have taken care of NC State on a national stage, blew out GA State and then go into a game with a heated rival who's owned us lately. This is the first time in a while that were suppose to actually be able to play with Florida. I'm sure its dumb going into that much detail about it but I'm cool with kids coming in against Florida because it's so huge for us.

Pretty sure Billy D. isn't getting much exposure to these guys in Neyland Stadium.

Because we invite CBD to Knoxville as a host and release them to gator fans while they are here. Really? This is the most ridiculous thing I've read on here since bye bye counzo.

The belief that playing UF in Neyland Stadium is of any advantage to Florida is laughable. And then to turn and suggest Missouri is a better game when they are recruiting both players as well, is a heavy dose of contradiction.

Maybe it is difficult for him to understand how big an affect a historically relevant football program and the atmosphere a game with one of its bigger rivals can create. I doubt Memphis football games are a real big selling point when the Tigers host recruits.

If I were the coach for Memphis, I'd stay away from football.

Yet, Memphis manages to pull in great recruiting classes every year. Interesting.
