Religious debate (split from main board)

Jesus: "if you love Me, you will keep my commandments

Jesus: "he who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me

1 John: " and by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments"

Jesus: "why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only one who is good but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments"

They ask, "Which ones?"

Jesus: "You shall not commit murder, you shall not commit adultry, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, honor your father and mother, you shall love your neighbor as yourself"

Jesus: "this is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you"

Jesus: "you shall love your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, this is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On those two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets"

Jesus: "So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple."

Jesus: "live such a godly life that people, seeing you do good deeds, will have respect for your Father which is in heaven"

Jesus: "truly, truly I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God"

Paul: "for by one Spirit, are we all baptized into one body"

John: "I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."

Paul: "we were baptized into Christ"

Paul: "for as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ"

There you go.............. works is sign of love for Jesus after you have believed by faith for salvation!

Wow.....seriously.......the Bible is very clear who will go to heaven......this is a very disturbing statement that has been taught you by very bad theology

Like I said before....this is exactly the teaching that is the reason that I left the church of Christ

I ask you, do you truly know me? Do you you know my innermost thoughts? Do you see me at all times during the day?

How can you possibly judge me?

Excellent scripture "plucking".

Listen, I am truly glad that you and salute have, in your minds, earned your salvation.
I just do not want all the people that are reading along, but not posting, that salvation is a free gift that Jesus has made available to ALL people. It is not something that we can work for. All we have to do is ask for it.
Everything else does not effect our salvation. The only thing that will cause us to lose our salvation is if we turn away from God......PERIOD.

What was that ?!?!?!

I say that your continuing to put that as a signature is useless to this discussion. Of course they believe and shudder in the presents of God. They have no chance to repent and will spent eternity as they are now.
Are you tring to use this as a way to bolster your point that we should live in fear of our salvation. Please tell me that is not your point.

Two questions:

Why did God wrap them into presents?

And is this anything like having pocket presents?

:p

Have I said a word about your personal life or your thoughts?
EVERYTHING that I have said is from the Bible.
You said that no one knows who will go to heaven. I say that the Bible is very clear as to who will go.
How the heck do you turn that into an attack?

This is where you totally confuse me. I can believe in Christ and not keep his commandments. Of course, if I believe in Christ and want to enter into the Kingdom of God, I will keep the commandments. Where do you see that faith and faith alone grants you salvation? And how many times does it have to say keep the commandments so that I might know your good deeds for you to understand we are always working for the Lord to prove we love him?

So you would agree that following God is required for salvation, correct?

Asking God to be the savior of your soul is the only thing that is required. Living a Christ like life is what we should strive to do, to show our love for him, AFTER we are saved.

Do you believe that you have to pray individually for each sin, that you commit each day, to recieve forgiveness of that sin?

Matthew 16 24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

He didn't say, "until your saved, then it doesn't matter." We are to continually follow and obey Him. That's why we are servants of Christ. Servants follow their master, not vice versa.

And what does Christ think of those who call on him?

Matthew 7 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Jesus is not a big fan of lawlessness. What was that definition of legalist again?

I have never said that we shouldn't. The point that you are missing is that we are required to follow his commands AFTER we are saved.
Legalism prevents lawlessness? This is your arguement?

My statement was not in defense from an attack. I'm asking because you can't truly know ANYBODY. Wife, kids, immediate family, yeah, you are going to have a pretty good idea of who they are. You still don't truly know them

Isn't that consistent with the teachings of Christ and the apostles? Take, for instance, Simon the sorcerer. Now, here's a Christian who committed a sin by offering to pay for the miraculous abilities of the apostles. What was he told to do?

Acts 8 20 But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! 21 You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. 22 Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

Legalism doesn't prevent lawlessness. Legalism is the OPPOSITE of lawlessness (the definition of legalism being "strict adherence to the law").

You are correct, we are required to follow His commands after we are saved. That is something we must do.

Revelation 2:10 Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

If a fellow believer that you know, is commiting a sin that you know about, would you not tell him to name it and confess it?
That is all this is.
