Rep. Giffords of Arizona shot

Guarantee you there are hours of videotaped questioning of this guy by detectives and investigators. Will be quite telling when that comes out, I suspect.

Looking at his youtube stuff, this kid is one of those crazy guys that thinks he's only about 1000x smarter than us all, yet the crap he spews as intellect is something every kid hears, spits back up on a test, and forgets in his Philosophy 101 class.

He's just a nut job that didn't get hugged enough as a child.

I think it's more that it's an unfortunate coincidence and though it obviously wasn't the intended message, they realize it only further inflames the rhetoric. More, it's fairly outdated. Most of the people targeted in the elections lost. Simply put, it wasn't the cause, and wasn't wrong, but it doesn't do any good now.

I'm not saying it is the "cause." I'm saying it is symptomatic of the harsh rhetoric of the far right at the moment that some take as a cue to make dramatic statements in horrible ways.

The guy could be an uber-liberal. That's not the point.

Dude, I gotta say it: you're losing it. I am a Tea party member and I would not blame the View or MSNBC if some nut took a shot at Palin or Rush. I would view the person as a crack pot and stand alone.

The far-left is equally bad, if not worse. I'd rather have some talking head being a jerk than a bunch of lefty whack-jobs out burning cars and smashing windows.

I have about the same use for either side...very little.

I don't think this is a product of rhetoric, though

Well, since people on the View and MSNBC don't talk about "Second Amendment remedies" and use crosshairs over pictures of people they don't like, I guess you couldn't, could you?

Let me also add this. What is done is done. I am not nearly as interested in the blame game as much as it might seem.

But I've been on this board for two years saying that the rhetoric out there -- particularly from the far right -- has been way too harsh and is encouraging violence. And I've been mocked for it over and over.

Moving forwrd, I hope that the right and the left tone it down and reach out to the disaffected to make them part of the electoral process, not trade on their sense of disenfranchisement.

If there were more like you 200+ years ago we would still be speaking the King's English.

That sounds good, but after reading some of his stuff and hearing from people that have firsthand knowledge of the guy, I think you're giving him way too much credit.

I just heard about this today... It's sad. He blames it on not being mentally stable that is a BS excuse. Child please he knew what he was doing!! If he has the mental status to buy a gun and operate a gun, he was mentally stable. This stupid BS has got to stop

Giffords' Tea Party opponent held a fundraiser to "help remove" her from office.

By shooting an M-16 with him at a range.

The Sheriff just on Fox. Geraldo and him arguing. He says Sharon Angle and Palin rhetoric pushes people like this over the edge. Geraldo saying his comments inappropriate in law enforcement context.

His comments are those of political hack and should be dismissed as such. Those being pushed over that edge are going to be pushed by anything and pundit silliness is just a weak excuse for deranged predisposition. Commentary about pundits being a root cause is tantamount to shouting racism and is simply a blatant attempt at muting opposing viewpoints.

You're the attorney here. Is is not unbelievable for a guy in that position to be pontificating like this about an ongoing investigation . . . much less making the comments yesterday just a few hours after the incident?

I agree that the Sheriff is a politician and shouldn't be engaging in the blame game given his position.

But he's right.

And you are wrong. The issue is not muting opposing points of view. The issue is how the opposing points of view are so irresponsibly expressed.

This is not a legal issue. Palin can say whatever she wants. So can Angle. But just because they can express their position doesn't mean they should do so in such an incendiary way.

The VAST majority of people who hear their rhetoric will go about their business. Even their biggest fans will pump their fists in the air but then go back to work a few minutes later.

I agree with you, bpvol, and Geraldo on this issue. The Sheriff should keep his opinions to himself at this point in time.

You pretending that one side is materially more incendiary and the other is mind blowing.

For the last 3 years, since Obama won, the right has been MUCH more harsh and threatening than the left.

It is an opinion you've been hawking for years. This forum is full of contradictory evidence but you see what you wish to see.
