Rep. Giffords of Arizona shot

I may be wrong, and, in fact, this thread has certainly piqued my curiosity enough to delve far deeper into the phenomenom - but a lot of the "whacked-out nutjob" attacks, killings, of the past couple of years certainly seem to have a consistent political leaning.

The Far Right may not want to claim them, but they are certainly of Deep Reactionary bent.

There does not seem to be a Che in the whole bunch. These guys aren't about to join forces with Castro. They are from the opposite end of the political spectrum.

How is the shooter right-leaning?

Have you guys read any of the killers' quotes? I couldn't pin an ideology on this guy if I tried. It's like a Les Miles press conference.

"If there's no flag in the Constitution, then the flag in the film is unknown. There's no flag in the Constitution. Therefore, the flag in the film is unknown. Burn every new and old flag that you see. Burn your flag!"

"I bet you can imagine this in your mind with a faster speed. Watch this protest in reverse! Ask the local police, 'What's your illegal activity on duty?'"

"If you protest the government, then there's a new government from protesting. There's not a new government from protesting. Thus, you aren't protesting the government."

"I know you're illiterate! This is the greatest protest for exposure into a wrongful act. The school is breaking the Constitution. If you watch the video then you'll understand. The teachers are taking advantage of you in the First and Fifth Amendment. The United States Constitution, which is the law, can be broken at this school."

Only partisan hacks would even attempt to discern some sort of political position out of a mad man's ramblings. It's really sad.

He didn't target the Tea Party candidate, for instance.

I was kinda shocked at one post in this thread. I admit to not keeping up with current events as I should, and I was amazed at the number of "whacked-out nutjobs" of recent memory.

As I made plain, I don't know the answer, but I intend to look deeper into this phenomenom. Is it on the rise? Does it have a specific political leaning?

In short, are we in the midst of an embryonic revolution?

@IPOrange - if so, it is VITAL to know the political characteristics of the people ready to use violence to advance an agenda. I submit to you the lessons of the Spanish Civil War, for instance.

Guys, there are evil people in all political stripes. I hold to a moderate viewpoint. I see merit from both Rs and Ds. I try my best to look at both sides before drawing a conclusion. It pains me to see the coutry torn to pieces. BOTH SIDES ARE GUILTY OF SPREADING VENOM AND RANCOR. The way I see it, until we ALL calm down a bit and realize that actions and words have consequences beyond the here and now, we will continue down the path of self-destruction. Trying to assign blame and pointing fingers at one side or the other for the actions of an obvious sociopath is an exercise in futility. If we continue the your side vs my side shtick, we will continue to find ourselves stuck in the mud and seeking to demonize the opposing view while playing the victim in regards to our own views. We are better than that as an American nation and an American people.

You are seriously creeping me out, Commissar.

Also, wasn't this woman a blue dog democrat? Could have just as easily been an angry Leftist right? But you assume otherwise.

Ooooookay....

I said plainly I didn't know the political leanings of any "whacked-out nutjob." The Pima Co Sheriff evidently knew a lot about this guy before he started shooting, evidently enough to say repeatedly "vitriol" was to blame. His partner, evidently, is also well-known. It may be from his partner we learn much, much more. Not assuming too much actually.

So, you have no proof this guy was a right-winger.

and you call the rest of us uninformed?

No. But when your facts are wrong, I do point them out. :)

I admit I didn't realize there had been so many "whacked-out nutjobs" of recent memory. Perhaps I've been numbed?

As for IPOrange taking the high road - I'm not buying. Sorry. Politics is a major motive for murder. Always has been. LawGator has actually been taking the high road.

No. But when your facts are wrong, I do point them out.

speaking of getting the facts wrong, aren't you the one who recommended watching "Bowling for Columbine"?

Michael Moore wouldn't know a fact if it showed up at his favorite breakfast buffet and slapped him with a cheese danish.

Actually, there is a lot of evidence he was. Evidently, Pima Co knew a lot about this guy and his partner before he started shooting.

All I've said was I intend to look deeper into this phenomenom. I do reject IPOrange's notion that we should ignore the politics of his action (and what superficially looks like a huge spike in WONJs).

Actually, I was just seeing if I could push GAVol's buttons.

And HE didn't bite, actually. Everyone else did. I'm proud of him. He even admitted he didn't get the Donne reference and asked for information. I have to give him a big

Have you watched this guy's youtube videos, utgibbs? He's bat **** insane. He's not a revolutionary. He's not an idealist. He's just a crazy guy (not to be confused with crazyguy).

You are implying that all right-wingers should be profiled as potential violent criminals. That's obviously politically self-serving and downright creepy.

LG doesn't even know what a high road looks like. The whole state of Floridaas flat as a witch's tit.

I hope the Sheriff made the "vitriol" comment because he knows the shooter. Otherwise, it was a completely unprofessional way to handle the press conference a few hours into the investigation.

I was a little taken aback myself. I did not think it was unprofessional, and I was happy to see someone in authority break with the "disciplined mind" of our free (sic) culture. I was taken aback that someone would actually step-away from the center and state something so obvious.

He gave no specifics other than to say both the shooter and his accomplice were known to Pima Co authorities. He made several references to the numerous threats lodged against Giffords (and himself).

His statements also piqued my curiousity. I do wonder if we are in the midst of some embryonic revolution.

I don't see how you can read this guy's ramblings and attribute it to an "embryonic revolution". This guy can't organize a thought much less organize a revolt.

I am watching the Chiefs/Ravens game. The Chiefs don’t look happy with the officials. There seems to be penalties and non-calls going against them. Players and coaches are not happy. People in the stands are voicing their displeasure at the officials. I hope a nut job doesn’t do something stupid to an official. LG would be on here blaming the Chiefs organization.

So where is the evidence? You don't expect me to take your word for it, do you?

No, it would somehow be the fault of the Tea Party.

Your extrapolation to this bolded statement is downright creepy.

He may well be "batass insane." As I've said, do we have a growing population of WONJs? If so, why? Concerning AZ though, who was this guy's accomplice? Is he "batass insane" too?

I've only heard the "cold as" version of a witch's tit. I like the "flat as" version too. It's surprising LG can have so much good sense being from Florida, but then I am reminded that world's greatest biologist, E. O. Wilson, lived in and graduated from the University of Alabama. I suppose even Florida has a couple of diamonds in the rough.
