I recognize our past issues as a nation. The problem is people who harp on it minimize the fact that EVeRY people, race, nation etc has done the exactly same thing over history.Maybe, but you cannot argue Native Americans were here first. You also cannot argue we treated them inhumanely. You act as if you cannot own our ugly past. It is what it is. We cannot change the past, just recognize it for what it was. Don't let reverence blind you to truth.

How often do we have to recognize our shortcomings? Pretty sure slavery has been discussed ad nauseum. And nothing is going to change the fact it happened. And yes every race of people has been involved in slavery at some point. Black white asian middle eastern. Jewish, native Americans . EveryoneDifference is that many other countries acknowledge their shortcomings, whereas here it's "I DON'T CARE DON'T MESS WITH OUR NATIONAL SONG"
Also, no, not every country enslaved an entire race of people.

Oh please this is ridiculous. Everyone is aware that slavery existed and probably 98% of Americans think it was totally evil and wrong. We can be the best country in the world and still know we have had our issues. But the fact is it’s over and those who continue to be miserable and dwell on things that happened 200-300 years ago are not trying to do any type of progress, they are trying to make excuses to why they have failed in lifeI mean, probably the majority of this country is still unwilling to acknowledge any single negative aspect of it, or to tolerate any statement about America beyond "rah rah we're #1 and everything we do is the best," so it's hard to say the process of "recognizing our shortcomings" has even started, much less ended

I’m sorry, but do you guys see the irony of arguing over whose life it’s ok to honor given their criminal
past while there is guy whose life is being celebrated by elected officials, community leaders, celebrities, superstar athletes on 3 different separate occasions who also had a violent criminal past? Some of the violent past include jamming a pistol into a pregnant woman’s stomach while he searched her house for cash and drugs. He’s being celebrated because Chauvin is a POS and he’s black, not because he was some pillar of the community.
As far as the monuments, I’m not saying the monuments need to be there or put in storage or a museum, I’m just saying take a little perspective when you start telling people who to honor or not honor.
The biggest short coming is that we allowed a Neo-Confederates, Pro-Southerners and Lost Causers to change the entire narrative of why the civil war started, who were the real hero’s and why the south actually lost the war. Now you have a situation where historians, activists and the military are pushing back and All the “my grandfather fought For the Confederacy” people are all upset. One shortcoming is that we celebrated a bunch of Confederate soldiers while simultaneously downplaying the abolitionists who actually worked to effect positive change, because the post-slavery narrative in the South was controlled by former slaveowners and Confederate soldiers. Look how smoothly "recognizing" that has gone. People are legitimately attached to their neighborhood Confederate soldier
The civil war was 150 years ago. I honestly don't gaf about who fought in it, why they fought in it or anything about it other that it is a part of our history. The biggest short coming is that we allowed a Neo-Confederates, Pro-Southerners and Lost Causers to change the entire narrative of why the civil war started, who were the real hero’s and why the south actually lost the war. Truth hurts son
Haha. No. But, I've been a lurker for quite a while now. I feel like i know you unfortunately.
So people with a criminal past shouldn't be celebrated?
No survivors made the statues?
Are you saying there were no CW veterans alive when these statues were erected?
I didn't say that. I said you hate America. America is the confederacy....maybe thats your hangup?
They openly declared their intent to join their countries to destroy the US whom they made treaties with. Lol. Try againNot your son or boy.
That you would use that term is pretty telling.
You literally have a second grade at best understanding of American History.
Well crawl back intop your basement. You obviously do not have anything intelligent to add to the conversation
Commtting genocide should not be celebrated.
Individuals can make mistakes and redeem themselves.
No, They were put up in the 1900s. Some vets were alive. But they were the equivalent to WWII vets of today. Not many left and all old. They weren't putting up monuments to their azz kicking.
Sorry you don';t know history. These are commonly known facts.
The confederacy was not American or America. It was an attempt by racist traitors to steal land from the U.S. and create a new non-US nation based on white supremacy. All traitors.
First nations people can not be traitors. They were protecting their rights against invaders.
