Richmond is taking down Confederate statues: Is this the end for other Confederate memorials?

At some point, enough has to be enough and people need to start being punished for their lawless actions. I honestly don't care if statues are removed, but going about it through mob rule is not the way. Are we just going to throw the law out the window every time an angry mob forms?

It will not happen. It's as if there is a Vast Conspiracy to allow murder, looting, and arson to engulf the United States and proceed unchecked by all law enforcement entities.

Actually I believe you are wrong here. Because the pillar p popular narrative here is that if you disagree with our push back in any way against their destruction your are racist and people are too scared to call BS and push back. It worries me that when people do wake up and say enough it will be too late
I think the reaction is going to come from individuals who start attacking the protests, which will in turn cause the anti-gun people to come out in full force. By the end of the summer, guns will be "racist". Once people think they're coming for the guns, it's going to get very bad.

Same thing happened here. Local press had to backfill a justification with some very obscure historic information because protesters knocked over a statue that many mistakenly assumed was a Confederate monument.

Well “Ulysses” just sounds racisty so let’s tear him down.

Amazing, these s*** for brains can organize a riot, but have no idea how to use google. How do they manage such feats?

Belgium: Migrant Mayor Demands Belgians Remove Statues of Former King

belgium-leopold-640x480.png

(AFP) — Belgium is due a reckoning with its colonial past, and things left unsaid must now be discussed, argues the Congolese-born 72-year-old who became the country’s first black mayor.

Pierre Kompany’s family has made a name for itself in Belgium. He is a former refugee turned pioneering politician, and his son Vincent Kompany is a star footballer in the national squad, the world’s top-ranked team.

But, in an interview with AFP before the June 30 anniversary of the then Belgian Congo’s independence, and against a backdrop of anti-racism protests, Kompany senior said it was time for some home truths.

While in the United States activists declaring “Black Lives Matter” have targeted the symbols of the slave-holding Confederacy, in Belgium the protests have focused around statues of Leopold II, “King Builder” of the Belgian nation.

Radical Leftists Also Attacked Statue of Miguel de Cervantes, Iconic Writer Who Was a Slave; Spain Objects

We reported earlier on a radical leftist/Antifa action, attacking statues in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

Among the statues they tore down were St. Junipero Serra, Francis Scott Key, the author of the lyrics of the “Star Spangled Banner” and Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th president of the United States.

The attack on Grant was perhaps the one that left people most stupefied and disturbed since Grant was largely the person responsible for the Union winning the war and putting an end to slavery. He also advocated for the 15the Amendment and signed law that helped crush the KKK in its original form. Grant was lauded by none other than Frederick Douglass as a champion of the oppressed and honored in black churches when he died.

But one of the other statues that got hit and defaced was that of Miguel de Cervantes, widely considered one of the greatest Spanish writers, author of “Don Quixote.”

I am thoroughly enjoying how the idea of not having Confederate statues has people in this thread wringing their hands about America’s future

Mizzou Students Demand Removal of ‘Racist’ Thomas Jefferson Statue

Thomas-Jefferson-Statue-at-Mizzou-640x480.jpg

Student protesters at the University of Missouri have circulated a petition that calls on Mizzou officials to remove a “racist” Thomas Jefferson statue from campus grounds.

The Jefferson statue at the University of Missouri is not the only historical monument to be targeted by leftists in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death. A bust of George Washington’s head was knocked over last week at George Washington University. Some students took to Twitter to praise the vandalism.
I’m telling you..... they’ll be wanting to burn down The Hermitage next

Heh. I've got plenty of stupid to start out with.

We've actually been having an ongoing debate at work for like the past 6 months (pre-CV19) about whether one can separate the product/services of a person and their beliefs/actions. Example: HP Lovecraft. One dude at work thinks his art is the bomb, and has collected prints and books about the guy for years. Now he's come to understand that the man was a unrepentant white supremacist. Can we separate and accept his art (great) for what it is, despite the fact that the man was fundamentally flawed (racist)? Where do you draw the line on this sort of thing? Say you had a beautiful original painting by Hitler. Do you burn it as a statement against everything the man stood for, or do you hide the fact that it was by him, or do you openly just accept the art for what it is - regardless of the artist?

I don’t think it’s the confederate statues on particular..... I think it’s more about “if they do this then what comes next”..... see Thomas Jefferson

Awesome dude. Tell me the correct answer then.

Again, here's the question:

The answer you seek is that some can and some cannot..... it’s an opinion thing and everyone has one. What’s right for some may not be right for you

This brings up a point of interest for me.... I have a large print of Jay Graham called “The Run” hanging in my office. My wife gave it to me for my 30th birthday. I’d had it for years and one day it finally dawned on me that there isn’t a single white person shown.... no players, coaches or fans in the stands. Obviously, the artist is black..... is he a racist?
