Richmond is taking down Confederate statues: Is this the end for other Confederate memorials?

Clearly the same. The reasons for the confederacy were pretty clear. Use any excuse about why they fought but we're 160yrs later and idiots are still celebrating the L.

I didn’t see in the governor’s address where he said he wanted to celebrate a loss . No battlefield park celebrates the win or the loss the men that have their lives are honored .

Why honor them? The goal was pretty clear

There will be confederates there being honored .

Will any of the nearly 10,000 persons in bondage whose forced labor supported Lee's march North be remembered there? Oh, right, we either pretend that they weren't there, were really aligned with the Cause, or that they were traitors for running away when they no longer feared the wrath of their brave, dead "masters".

I love these, but but but 150 years ago the whites people were mean to my great great great grandfather.

Nope, they were every bit the racists they fought against were.

It is certainly true that many in the North grew rich on the slave trade and that economic incentive was no longer there by the time of the Civil War. If the North and South were still entwined economically, there would have been no war.

Okay, fast forward 150 years. Now what's your complaint?

I’m going out on a limb here and say any and everyone that died there will be honored. Does that answer your question?

This is a thread complaining about the capitol of the Confederacy removing its monuments. I don't really have a complaint about that.

In fact, since I believe that states and municipalities should have the right of self-determination AND since not having that autonomy was one of the things many claim was a key grievance of the South in the Civil War, shouldn't we all be on the same page here?

I’m glad Mississippi has the balls to respect her heroes. Talk about the bravest of the brave. Read about what the entire student body at Ole Miss did at Gettysburg

Unlike the Dr. Seuss crowd on your side, we can walk and chew gum at the same time.

House Dems gettin it done!
Yes, so incapable of walking and chewing gum but yet so dangerous and insurrectiony.

You almost had the wrong notes on descriptors for the narrative you were pushing..... Good save.

Not saying it’s the right thing to do or not but from the photos you see how meaningful it is to the people in attendance.
