Barnes teams have no concept of the shot clock. Every loss this year was from turnovers and shooting dry spells. Don't even look at shooting until the last second, when everyone in the building knows they have 2 seconds to shoot. A Game manager Barnes isnt. Butch Jones with a basketball is my comparison.

I’m still laughing at the thought of you referring to me as a sunshine pumper. Just today, I carried on a multi-post discussion criticizing Barnes, his assistants, and his recruiting. Not very pumper-like of me. Shame on me, I guess, for breaking character.

if you was a recruit would this system jump out at you and make you be interested?? The NBA loves offense, hell everybody does. Ever heard the saying a good offense always beat a good defense?? Well I think that saying is especially true in basketball..
I know I’m probably going to get blasted for this , and part of me really believes in coach Barnes but we have to ask ourselves, is the coaches style outdated boring, and honestly those post season woes makes you wonder if the style even translates to when it matters most.. I know we don’t have any options that’s out there, like a big fish I guess.. but look at TV he was an assistant coach and pretty much everybody overlooked him. He’s done wonders for Tennessee baseball, and it’s because he’s fierce, young, and a go getter with a winning attitude.. maybe just maybe after this season Tennessee finally starts closing the chapter on the Rick Barnes era.

Please don’t mention his name. I transferred to UT in 1992 and that was the worst basketball era I’ve ever seen. Alan was awesome but the teams after he left were horrific. I can’t remember when Wade got fired. But he was a horrible coach and the teams were soo bad.

Kentucky, Arkansas, Auburn, are all doing this. Calipari has 2 in the portal now that barely contributed. He brought in Grady, Mintz, Wheeler, Toppin, Tshiebwe- all transfers on last year’s team. Musselman turns over his roster every year. Pearl lost at least 3 transfers last year and has lost 1 this year along with NBA departures and took 4 from the portal on last year’s team.

Essentially, it’s now about bringing guys in that you believe can contribute. But if they aren’t the player you thought, you convince them there is not enough minutes or they think they are better and want more minutes. Every school is doing this now.

Yep. Welcome to the world of free agency in college sports. Won’t do any good to worry about the roster until practice starts. It could turn over at any time. Feels like pro sports to me more than ever now.

AAh. don't sweat it. I just get tired of seeing the TROLL label every time someone makes a post that Barnes does anything less than walk on water. I don't understand why a guy with 30 years experience and 7 years in a program can't put a team on the floor that can put 2 together in the NCAA tourney. Good grief we were one of 3 in the top 10 on KenPom that didn't make the sw16. Same song every season and I can sympathize with people that thinks Barnes can do better. If that makes me a TROLL so be it.

I couldn’t believe the hate and hazing I recieved today for starting this thread..being called a troll by numerous people is hilarious to me bc I’ve been a die hard vol fans since I was in middle school but I mean are we just suppose to not look at the very obvious and be concerned??

Nope. I just got off work after doing a 12 he shift .
If I got kicked off this site for merely posting a thread stating the obvious about this upcoming season, even if it is about my own team, I should be aloud to freely voice my opinion and discuss it with other vol fans who share the same opinion.
Everybody else in the country shares the same one and the vol fans that open their eyes and look at the situation with anything but a bias perspective can see this season is going to be rough. And I don’t get the argument from some posters. Bringing up the cringy 90s teams that were awful.. that’s not the same Tennessee basketball program as it stands now. We have become pretty competitive in the sec and I want to look for the next guy to take us to the next step . Thank you coach for getting us this far but you’ve done all you’re going to accomplish.

I only label people as trolls when they have one sole purpose, and that is to whine and moan about the state of our program as if we are institutionally at the bottom of the barrel. That is how a lot of this comes across when it is never balanced out by anything positive. If someone believes that Barnes has done nothing to help accentuate the profile of our basketball program, then I can't help them, and we aren't likely to find common ground.

Would I like to see more success in the postseason? Sure. We won an SECT tournament title for the first time in my 42 years. That is worth celebrating, but I don't remember many (any) posts from the perpetual whiners in this thread giving him credit for it.

Would I have liked to have seen at least a S16 berth from this team? Sure. I think we underachieving, but I also recognize the randomness of the NCAAT and that we had to play a team who was ranked in the preseason top-5 for a reason. Michigan's talent didn't change. They just finally put it all together, and we shot as bad as we have all year. Barnes can only do so much to combat that from the bench. And quite frankly, some of the people bitching about it would complain all the way to the finals because they don't feel complete unless they have something to gripe over. A S16 isn't enough for some. For others, an E8 isn't enough. For others, we'll, they just knew Barnes would choke if he ever made a F4, and so on. Some people are just never satisfied unless they have some reason to voice displeasure that likely carries over from their own miserable lives into everything they try to indulge themselves in.
