Really just an outside shot at a 1 seed. Given the strength of our schedule the rest of the way, we've still got an outside shot, but it's a very, very tall order. Right now I'd be focused on holding on to a 2 or 3 seed and getting fresh legs for the NCAAT. I know Barnes wants to shorten the rotation, but I question the wisdom of doing that now. This team expends so much energy on defense that it impacts our offense. We reach a point physically where we're just gassed and we drop a stinker performance from time to time. To my thinking, that might explain why we seem to have a game where everyone's shooting is off at the same time? Instead, I'd get deeper into the bench and get our guys fresh. Let's be honest about who we are. We're not going to be the most athletic bunch out there. We offset that by playing great complimentary defense. We're going to face taller teams. We'll face more athletic teams. To have real chances against the problem match ups, we'll have to be that high intensity defense that just wears on people. To do that you can't be worn down and running on fumes. This team is mature enough and played enough minutes with each other that chemistry shouldn't be an issue. Just use the depth we have to offset some of our disadvantages. Maybe Barnes wants to shorten things when tournament play begins, but why not continue using your depth to stay fresh until we need to go that route? Guess Barnes knows best, but given his history at seasons end, one would think maybe trying something different might be in order? The definition of insanity comes to mind and seems applicable in this case?I mean, I get that the SEC regular season title may be out of reach now, but even that isn’t guaranteed. Alabama showed in their blowout loss to OUthat they’re prone to bad nights. Very possible they lose a couple of games the rest of the way. So what was really on the line last night aside from a number 2 ranking? Most Barnes bashers have said many times regular season rankings don’t matter, so again, what was on the line last night in the grand scheme of things?
