Their biggest mistake was not covering every receiver all the time?

If you want coulda-shoulda-woulda, maybe look at the fumbles by both sides that led to a touchdown.
Both teams had a critical stop taken away by PI in the endzone (that both fans dispute)
Both teams had a chance to kick that field goal.

Neiheisal said, and it makes sense, you leave the short guy open & give up a 8-10 yd gain.

The guy was a good college coach and some of us enjoy hearing their analysis after seeing the plays on coach film (much better than TV view).

Saban runs the third down play as a run left, and gets the ball to the center of the field, his kicker likely hits the field goal and leaves next to no time on the clock. Think he missed two from the right hash last week.

At worst the running play would likely eat a few more seconds and even with a missed fg we don't have time to kick one ourselves.

Spot on ! Bama's kicker has missed from right side repeatedly this year.

Saban's clock management at the end of the game looked like he hadn't played in enough close games. That's all on him. Leaving 15 seconds was a gift, not that most of our former coaches wouldn't have take a knee and gone to OT.
I would offer that if they make they make the FG his clock management wasn't the issue. Could he have used up more? Sure. The odds of TN scoring w/16 seconds left were pretty low.

I do agree that given his kickers past performance you can't be that confident he DOES make it but you can't coach to lose IMO.

I believe this one was meant to be. The team played tight because Saban played tight. Our team on the other hand did the opposite cause Honey Heupel doesn't give a ****.

Sabans biggest mistake this season has been putting Bill O Brien in charge of his offense.

The guy is a moron and one of Sabans reclamation projects has finally bitten him. They could easily have 3 losses on their schedule already.
They scored enough thanks to Young. This win was so very sweet because it came at the expense of his precious secondary.

I assume you meant leaving 15 seconds with two timeouts was the gift. Us using our timeouts would have still left 15 seconds on the clock.

I think he was trying to get closer because he didn't have faith in his kicker at that length (for good reason). And I'm pretty sure they only had 1 time out left, so if they ran the ball and didn't get much, they'd have to waste a down to clock it or burn a time out and risk taking a sack and not getting a FG attempt.

And to be fair, Gibbs had a long 1st down pass go right through his hands. If he catches that, we aren't having this conversation.

Young bailed them out of multiple bad plays with his scrambling. He was pretty dang amazing Saturday.

Bammers are not remotely happy with BoB.

They scored 20 and 24 against TX and the Aggies, well below their standards although no Young against the Aggies.

Agree with you totally though, watching his vaunted defense get annihilated with supposedly the best defensive player in the country was awesome.

If he was to blame anyone it would be his defensive coordinator for allowing his defense to give up 52 points not his offense coordinator for scoring 49 points. ""

You mean the same offensive coordinator who couldn't milk the clock before the kick by Reichard?

Said Saban made a mistake not running at least once to run the clock down or force Tennessee to use a TO (I agreed). If Tennessee had one less TO, the drive doesnt happen.

Then he explains the pass patterns each WR runs. On the first play, 3WRs on one side of the field, Bama covers the "Go" route and the short guy but allows the middle guy, who Tennessee wanted to get the ball to anyway, to get open. Keyton catches the ball for about 17 yd gain. Then, and you'll love this, Tennessee lines up the exact same way on the other side of the field and runs the exact same play. Alabama changed their defense to one that should have worked but their CB, Kool Aid, lost the WR and McCoy enough to allow McCoy to get open for the big catch......

I tend to agree with Saban - when you are averaging 3 yards a carry = being 3 yards closer and using some time, vs trying to complete a pass to a wide open receiver and advancing inside the 20 for a chip shot field goal -- he made the right call or his OC did - I am not going to second guess him on that. Coach Hype would have done the same thing.

This is spot on! O Brien screwed the pooch trying to run with us. He should have tried slowing things down, especially late in the game and waste clock. Our offense could do whatever and whenever we wanted!
