Rucker: Nico is being redshirted

If rumors are true the family wanted Nicco to redshirt and if that is the case then to me how do you give him 7 figures to not play.

Then we should have been getting Moore ready to help this season.

There’s no excuse for not having at least a couple of viable options at QB in year 3.

I said the same thing a bunch.......but one of the post game shows brought up a good point, Hooker only played last year because Milton got hurt. And by the time Milton came back Hooker was already balling out and they couldnt switch back. Actually made me think. I really do wonder if Heupel is loyal / "good guy" to a fault
Nico is so skinny though, he doesn't look ready on the hoof. I'd be inclined to believe he needs more time to be an every down guy.

That’s the thing—there’s NOTHING to lose. That’s what makes the decision so stupid to stick with Milton.

You stick with Milton—and you lose fanbase and alumni support because as an alumni that makes big donations to Tennessee—I am thinking my Alma mater’s football team MAY be led by an idiot for one reason:

The result we got this season would have been palatable if I felt like we were developing the game changing QB that was going to be the leader of the team. You’re sending out a signal to fans to be patient. You’re sending out a signal to transfers and recruits there’s a QB in Knoxville you want to come play with.

Instead, you stick with a guy that Michigan was smart enough to cut bait with 2 years ago….and we now have to wonder if our head coach has some sort of directional syndrome.
As an alumni and my kid being enrolled, this is exactly where I’m at. I don’t get the decision making around Milton - it’s the same Milton, save the Clemson game, that we have seen since day one. The same stupid decision making, the same slow reads and check downs, the same overthrows and poor passing as we have seen since he got here. But Heupel loved the guy when he was at UCF and by George he loves him now, regardless of performance. The rest of the CFB world can see the issue, but for some reason, CJH can’t. And that is concerning. Hell, the guy wouldn’t have started Hooker if it hadn’t been for not really having a choice in the matter.

This!!! I live in Maryville and frequently listen to the sports talk shows,.All year long I’ve heard media guys and VFL’s say Nico is not ready.Yet every armchair QB and redneck in Tennessee think he is.
Just curious, other than physically, do you think Joe is ready to play qb on any winning sec football team

I don’t attend practices so I don’t know if we have a better option. This falls back on recruiting and coaching changes.I for one thought for sure we had better options than JG when he was there but when those QB’s transferred out I think it proved he was indeed our best option
I don’t disagree. But how would we know? They refuse to give anyone a chance, even when QB#1 is stinking up the joint and we are buried on the scoreboard. My issue is we don’t even try to correct things and right the ship, stick to whatever the garbage is we are doing and hope it changes - which is insanity in itself.

I mean we literally had our last two coaches ride the same QB to the unemployment line.

He should have the common sense to not make the same damned mistake as his predecessors.

Like if we’re sitting at the same exact record right now with Nico, I’m not nearly as frustrated. At least I feel like we’re progressing toward next season. Now I wonder if Heupel is just the final head on Mt Rushmore of assclown coaches in Tennessee history.

What if Nico, Ewers’s us and takes the NIL money and Imaleaveya for Ohio State. Does NIL end if they transfer?

Oh for sure..........this very well could be the deal. Just to play devils advocate I'd blame the S&C then because he's an early enrollee and been here long enough he should be in pretty good shape. Likewise I see other teams start freshmen all the time that do well. So I dont know what it is we're missing. In a way I hope you're right, because if Nico gets out there against Vandy and a bowl game (if Milton opts out) and just absolutely balls out people are going to question Heupels judgement. Which brings me back to my old point, Im afraid Heupel is too "old school loyal" to a fault..........so in a way, I hope you're actually correct bro.

Fantastic and truthful post. For some strange reason, most Milton sycophants use the excuse that Nico may get hurt. Maybe we shouldn’t have played BRU or Hadden then they wouldn’t have gotten hurt

I don’t think he will be on the Mt Rushmore of assclown coaches, he only has one-two more games with Milton as QB. But if Milton had another year? Then all bets are off.

I don’t get it. Heupel’s system is exciting and it works, when executed and coached properly. But sticking to this guy is not going to help matters and he is seeing all the 2022 goodwill erode by his arrogance in sticking to this scheme and the QB. We all see the playbook is limited and extremely vanilla compared to last year, so why pretend it’s anything different?

Nico's obviously agreeable to it. I've seen no evidence of him looking like he was lobbying to play. His handlers must think it's in his best interest.
Yeah that is confusing to me. Unless they know something we don’t, his line will be worse and he will be limited in his options more than Joe was this year barring some major developments in the receiving corps.

Why would Nicco not transfer out. Coach says he wasn't better than Joe freakin Milton. Right now TN has nothing coming in unless they get really lucky in the portal. Remember freshman can't play here. Why would he not transfer to Washington or Oregon where there's talent waiting for the next good QB.
There's 8 million reasons why he won't

Man, we paid a lot of money for Nico to redshirt and leave in 2 years

It is not our money so who cares. If he is leaving in 2 years then that implies he has two great seasons and is worthy of being drafted high early. I’ll take that 10 times out of 10.

The only frustration is if that’s the case he should have also played more this year at least in garbage time.

Why would Milton opt out. To save himself for his nfl career? Not sure that’s gonna help
