Rumblings that Pruitt will stay if changes made in offensive side

I don't like that plan at all, not even a little bit. Heck Fulmer oughta know that! It definitely didn't work out for him when he brought in the "Clawfense" in 2008! That was a bad hire and ultimately cost him his job. I say go ahead and cut your losses in the offseason, move on. Heck we've been down for 12 FREAKIN' YEARS! What's one more year of starting over going to affect? If you bring Pruitt back and we still suck next year... aren't they just delaying the inevitable? Not to mention a large fraction of the UT fanbase stops spending their "hard earned money" on anything related to UT football when they lose faith in the HC and interest in the program.

There's absolutely no scenario where this is a good idea.

He's already proven he can't make offensive hires, let them run their offense, and lead as a head coach. He's also proven he can't manage public relations, team chemistry, or put together a comprehensive game plan that's at least somewhat coherent.

But yes, let him monkey with things some more and this time it'll finally turn out for a positive. Makes perfect sense.
You left out the part where some actual sound potential hires go elsewhere while the administration hires consultants and search firms, make some half-a$$ offers, get turned down, then settle for someone with a pulse from a Divll school or with no previous head coaching experience.

will get a chance to stay for year 4 if he changes his offensive staff. Lets review

Year 1.....he puts his staff together with Tyson Helton as OC........they dont get along so he encourages him to hit the road.
Year 2 and 3.....brings Cheney in and most would say that Gitmo handcuffs the offense but they are a dumpster fire.
Year 4......insert whomever he convinces to come to this sinking ship and we will have a 4th year head coach installing a new offense once again with no quarterback?

Why is this a good idea?

OMG this is laughable. People come up with the craziest ideas because they cannot deal with reality.
Pruitt has been telling the truth the whole time. Tennessee has ZERO QBs that can win games now. JG is clearly the best among them and he is terrible. People think HB will lead them to the promised land with ZERO proof of this other than his star ranking coming out of high school.

Pruitt already stated that he didn't want to throw HB to the wolves as a freshman because he claims this is what Butch Jones did to JG and that's why JG is mentally f*@ed in the head.

All the truth is out there but people just dont want to listen but rather believe in crazy theories. The real issue is this coaching staff has done ZERO to develop any of these players or these players are just flat out terrible.

QB coach needs to be the first change. Hard to know what the rest of the O can do until that changes. Pruitt doesn't need to be involved in the offense at all either, just let Chaney figure it out.

We don’t make a change unless we have a proven, established head coach that is a consensus pick by all the major boosters and considered a home run hire.

Yes, we Vol fans have seen that play out before. However, pessimism doesn't breed success. It paralyzes you and keeps you frozen in the bad situation because "aw shucks, we'll probably just screw up fixing it so let it stay broken."

That can't possibly be advocated as a strategy for success.

Chaney needs to go

I feel like all CJP does is throw Chaney under the bus....handcuffs his gameplan, then blames him for the play call which he has final say on...

Bring in Hugh Freeze as the CO-HC&OC and tell Pruitt he will be splitting duties 50% equally and and Pruitt can be CO-HC/DC and then on couple years hand it 100% over to Freeze and tell Pruitt to kick rocks and his buyout is a lot less. Could be the best of all worlds!!!

Are you one of those “so called insider” that knows someone that is friends with someone that talks to someone else that knows a booster type person?

Did we ever find out if these rumblings were anything more than the OP’s bad gas?

Pruitt isn’t going anywhere regardless of what changes are made. They just extended him and they aren’t gonna pay his buyout right now.
I think this could be mailed to every Vol fan on this board by certified mail by the Univ of Tennessee BOR and AD department (ah heck lets throw the people who actually pay the money in there too) and you would STILL have to state the obvious...but on the other hand...it does give Volnation something to do on an "open date"....

Great idea...I don't see any reason why both Freeze and Pruitt wouldn't agree to such a thing!
