Rumor: Chris Peterson Approached by UF

Chris Peterson is 54-4 as a head coach. Enough said.
Stoops was never leaving Oklahoma and he probably never will. I do believe he's used the Gators to get a pay raise out of Oklahoma, but that's about it.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty positive Meyer was our first choice.

People talk about competition, only playing 1-2 good teams a year, etc...but I don't care where you are coaching, that is impressive and the guy obviously knows how to field a team and get them prepared. I see no reason why Peterson couldn't be good in a premiere conference.

He's a good coach and he seems a lot more motivated than Spurrier ever was. I think if you don't introduce Saban to the equation, he'd have ended up one of the SEC's best ever.
Agreed. He was rolling and I don't think he would have stopped.

I remember thinking Meyer had done well at Utah, but I questioned his ability to win in the SEC.

I've been watching/discussing football for years, and to this point, the stupidest comment I've made about college football was something like "Wow, Notre Dame really lucked out with Meyer choosing Florida over ND. Charlie Weis is an offensive genius, and Meyer's system won't work against good teams."

And utgibbs will be the Vols head coach next year and Phil will be his OC.

Any chance they go after Dan Mullen? He is doing some pretty good things with a pedestrian QB (Maybe even more pedestrian than Brantley) and is in the top 25 for the first time in 9 years.

I'll agree that his coaching record is impressive, but there are absolutely doubts about his ability to succeed in a major conference.

Can't see Urbie getting fired even with a complete meltdown like we have in 05. But I can see him re-retiring, even likely. If he does go UF will have no problem finding a quality coach, Stoops, Peterson, heck even Jimbo might jump at it.

competition doesn't matter at all? he still has only one road victory against a bcs opponent.

There's a ton of coaches in bad conferences. How many of em have to undefeated seasons, two BCS bowl wins, and a 54-4 overall record?

Tony won't leave for a college job. Hes done coaching. Gruden has a superbowl ring and a good analyst job, he wont leave it. And personally, i don't think Urbey is done after this season. If he was gonna leave, he would have left before the season when he pulled that leave and comeback crap.

Best of the worst? That's hilarious. Comical that you'd even say that. Especially considering Petersen consistently fields a better product at Boise than Jeff Tedford fields at Cal.

I haven't seen anything from his teams that indicates he'd fail elsewhere in a similar manner to Hawkins. For starters, it's far easier to win at Florida than it is at Colorado; And secondly, using a single and limited instance as to why he'd fail is faulty.

Urban Meyer is a former Utah coach, therefore, when Kyle Whittingham moves on to greener pastures he'll win 2 NC's in 5 seasons.

Just like it's easier to win at UF than Illinois.

Nor has anyone claimed Chris Petersen is the best coach in the nation. He's a damned good coach, and that's all anyones argued.
