Russia Blocks Kerch Strait

A generalization of the last 70 years. Obviously there are exceptions.

See above and add to that the fact this is happening in the backyard of several small, friendly states. And if we just watch it happen some of them could be next.

More exceptions than you care to talk about, I'm sure.

We aren't lily white in "respecting" international borders" unless it suits us.

If you took time to read the first sentence of the article you would see that Russian state borders were violated...
So since you’re linked into all of the apology reasoning of the FSB have you seen a valid reason given yet as to why they grounded a tanker in the commercial channel and blocked off all maritime traffic into the Sea of Azov in the first damn place?!

That's true but this is not a moral debate. It's a question of whether the world, or our corner of it, resists an effort by a rival to take over a sovereign country.

A pretty good background article from August.

Russia Opens a New Front in Its War Against Ukraine: the Sea of Azov

Fun fact: there's undeveloped oil/gas in the Sea of Azov

Also, regarding the timing, don't forget this:

“There is a significant risk that the Kremlin will attempt to worsen the crisis on the Sea of Azov as it struggles to deal with increasing social tension,” Holcomb said. “The Kremlin regularly provokes international crisis to distract Russian society from, and often provide excuses for, worsening socio-economic conditions.”

Oil selloff this month can't be good for the motherland.

The first place?! I doubt there would had been a confrontation if that were the case...don’t you think?!

Yanukovich I thought blocked entrance into EU. Either way, Ukraine's ties to Russia are far stronger than with Western Europe.
Ukraine petitioned to join the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP: the first step to membership) in 2008. Yanukovych shelved these plans when he took office in 2010.

Actually, there are Russian sanctions in place, and if enough heat is applied I wouldn't be surprised to see Trump grudgingly go along with new ones.

His is a marriage of convenience to Putin.
Seriously, how are you going to sanction Russis when they are trading partners and border China?
