The Ukrainian parliament is due to vote on martial law in about 10 minutes. One of the measures is calling up of reserve forces which is interesting.

Kiev claims they followed protocol. The only people disputing that are the ones that fired shots, seized vessels, and blocked a commercial channel and effectively blockades the Sea of Azov.

And you’re eating it up and parroting it right back.

This seems like a big mistake (unless "martial law" means something different than it normally does). Has anyone in the UKR government stated the rationale for such a drastic move?

Ukrainian ships routinely pass through the Kerch Strait. Russia said they did not follow proper protocol and if you watch the videos, the Ukrainian ships are sailing in a provocative manner.

Again, Russia has zero to gain from this...absolutely nothing. Poroshenko has a lot to gain by poking the bear...

Had they followed protocol and orders to cease before entering Russian territory that wouldn’t of been necessary...

Again, Ukrainian ships routinely sail through the strait without incident...

They claimed the followed protocol and were in international waters! Why the hell should they “cease” if they followed the rules?

And why in the bloody hell is it worth it to the Russians to escalate and fire on them then seize their vessels Komrade?

The Russian response was heavy handed and excessive, regardless of the initiating cause. So you tell me why that makes sense.

The amount to which this is going to be politicized this time around because of Trump is going to be insane. Trump is going to do nothing about this, because there really isn't anything he can do about this. Just like Obama did nothing when the rebels Russia is backing blew a civilian airliner out of the sky over Ukraine a few years ago. But it won't be covered that way.

Again, if you only want to read one side of the story...there’s no point in arguing...

Obviously, the Ukrainian ships had something to do with that by breaking protocol. When you enter a country’s territorial waters without permission and refuse to leave....then you’re asking to be shot at. We would do the same thing, but because people are programmed to hate Russia, you automatically take the other side...regardless of who’s to blame..

your righteousness would sell a lot better if you were ever grounded when it comes to things of russian nature. anywhere/anyone else in the world, or just the US at all, and you would be upset. but because its Russia they get a pass.

just look at the South China Sea stuff and Ras's reactions. the Chinese are the ones not following protocol and Ras is pissed at the US.

Russia flies bombers in British air space and Ras is pissed the Brits respond.

Also short of putting us between Russia and the Ukraine there isn’t a hell of a lot we can do. And I’m 100% against that. This is Europe’s problem.

But when it comes to Russian aggression, the FSB as a spokesman, and RT-Sputnik as a news source don’t piss on me and tell me it’s raining.

No, I wasn't directing that comment at you. I totally agree with your assessment of what's happening.

I just find it funny that on Twitter I've seen a ton of comments already from progressives and anti-Trumpers basically foaming at the mouth for the United States to get involved in this somehow to protect Ukraine, which they know won't happen, and then they'll claim we're doing nothing or aren't doing enough because of Trump's "alliance" with Russia.

Can you imagine how these people would have reacted if Trump was president when they shot that Malaysian Airlines jet down? Obama made no move, precisely because there was no move to make (and was criticized by some conservatives for it), but if Trump did the same thing then it would be clear evidence of collusion with Putin.
