Russia bounty on US troops

"The crucial information that led the spies and commandos to focus on the bounties included the recovery of a large amount of American cash from a raid on a Taliban outpost that prompted suspicions. Interrogations of captured militants and criminals played a central role in making the intelligence community confident in its assessment that the Russians had offered and paid bounties in 2019, another official has said.
Armed with this information, military and intelligence officials have been reviewing American and other coalition combat casualties since early last year to determine whether any were victims of the plot. Four Americans were killed in combat in early 2020, but the Taliban have not attacked American positions since a February agreement to end the long-running war in Afghanistan."

18 were combat related.

Weird that the intelligence communities figured this out last year and didn't leak any of it..

Guess that captured muzzies words are golden and that American cash couldn't have come from Americans who have been bribing Afghans for almost 20 years now. It has to be the Russians. WW3 HERE WE COME YEEEHAW!

Relax everyone. Trump and Fox say this is not true.
What if it were true? Meaning from a foreign policy standpoint what should any POTUS do? Are we gonna go to war over this ? We’ve been doing this back and forth with them forever.

It's amazing the furor that existed over Benghazi....it's almost as if it is not about deaths.....
For some, I'm sure it was about politics. For me, and many others, it was about the needless deaths, and the lying, as if trying to cover it up. And the fact we didn't even attempt to send reinforcements. Repeated requests for additional security were denied. Whether or not the Obama administration was found to be in the wrong, they were wrong. I'd feel the same way under any administration that left a U.S. ambassador in such a precarious position. The man was basically abandoned. Locals had to drag him from the rubble, and take him to a hospital, where he died. So yeah, for some of us, the furor over Benghazi is real, and not just some political BS.

So you are outraged now?
You should've had plenty bursted blood vessels now over the pandemic response.

Am I outraged over Russia offering bounties on American troops? Absolutely. How we deal with that I have no idea. Unless you think WWIII is a good idea.

Pandemic response isn't even comparable to Benghazi. That's a huge reach Mr. I'm not blindly loyal to the left.

Russia should be sanctioned, No? It's been how long and we have seen the President turn a blind eye to this. If he didn't know he should have. Now that he can't deny knowing, sanctions are in order. Maybe call Putin out but we have a President without balls when it comes to Russia.

Exactly. What are we supposed to do here overtly? If I’m a KGB officer or asset I’m sleeping with one eye open for a little while. Let’s hit them where it hurts their intelligence the most and take down a key piece of a network. People that think we won’t or haven’t even already retaliated are crazy.

We can sanction, but sanctions will have little teeth IMO. I'm not against that course, but question what good it will do when some of our so called allies will continue to conduct business with Russia? And I'm okay with Trump calling out the action and criticizing Russia, but we know "cut that out" isn't very effective. So what, of any true consequence, can we do? I'm not against the paper tiger tactics, but let's not pretend they actually accomplish anything.

Finally a good answer. Something we'll never hear about, but taking out some of their intelligence apparatus/personnel sounds like a good idea IMO.

Trump will ask Putin, Putin will deny it, Trump will take his word for it.
Trump supporters, because they're so stupid, will still stand behind Trump even as he turns a blind eye to Americans getting killed by Russian backed Taliban attacks.

The end.

Well said.

Make no mistake, Trump was 100% aware of this fact and... drumroll please...

Did nothing. As usual.

Pathetic. Worthless. Russian stooge.

No, but strong sanctions would certainly be in order, and Trump will not do that.
I don’t think it’s just that simple, but what if you take Trump out of the equation? I’m not sure this story sees the light of day if Trump isn’t President. And then we silently get reciprocity in terms that would be more of an eye for eye nature.

I also think it's idiotic that some want Trump to directly challenge Putin. That's not how diplomacy works. We have options. We could condemn Russia, enact sanctions, and bring back the Cold War(which seems to be the choice of the left). Or our intelligence agencies could get off their ass and make sure this doesn't happen again. Or hell, if we have the proof, I'm not sure why we can't present a case to the ICJ(not that it'll do much good, but maybe shut up the left). But some seem to believe Trump needs to call Putin a liar to his face. Why? What would that accomplish?

.

We're too damned afraid of stepping on toes to do anything more than level sanctions. Don't want to offend China or Russia.

Trump needs to do something to not make the United States look like Russia's bitch. There is a reason this Administration kept it quiet, didn't want the truth to get out that we are.

They literally laid out options of actions to take and he said “meh”
