Sam Hartman (Wake Forest transfer)

I’d love to see Tennessee win because of a lights out performance by the defense. That would make me feel better about next year than a lights out performance by Milton, since I think Heupel will figure out the QB situation, one way or another.
I am cautiously optimistic. This will be a grade for Tim Banks vs Milton. The defense has to show some spunk and the schemes for this game have to be right. 3+ weeks of prep time and heal time. We are up against a starting freshman QB and this is GO TIME. A complete failure here and we will know if our DC is going to cut it.

It is not as much on the players as it is moreso on the DC. Is anybody on the Defense opting out, I would hope not because they have something to prove. Even if they are the DC will have to scheme a few new looks for Clemson.

Not worried about the Offense, I think we may run the ball a little more than normal maybe up to 60%.

The difference now is that he's THE man. No mop ups. He's the starter and it's all in his hands. No looking over his shoulder. I can see it going either way. He relaxes and just plays which improves his touch and accuracy or it's overwhelming and he's the same Joe Milton. I'll be very, very interested to see how he performs. Sadly, it will be against a top shelf defense on a huge stage. Hate that he doesn't get more time to adjust to his new position on this team, but when the chips are down, leaders take control. Let's see what's inside Joe Milton and how he handles this tough situation. At this point, it's his team and his job to lose.

What I would love to see more than anything else would be to borrow a page from the '85 team's playbook. The whole team and, particularly, the defense upped their game significantly and greatly improved their esprit de corps when Tony Robinson went down and Dickey took over.

That by anyone's definition is not deadly accurate. You can cherry pick all the stats that you want but at the end of the day - he hasn't proven to be deadly accurate, nor has he been able to as a result maintain drives that lead to scores. He was replaced as a starting qb at Michigan, he was replaced as starting qb at Tennessee largely because he wasn't deadly accurate. He has improved and has proven to be a great teammate, but he may never fall into the category of deadly accurate as much as you want him to. I hope he will become deadly accurate, if so, he will play on Sundays.
He is improving. He was 51% passer in 2021 and 63% in 2022. Not sure if we will improve on that or not but Hooker was at 69% in 2022. If you look at the number of passes Hooker threw per game, if Milton threw same number of passes he would have to complete less than 2 more passes a game from his current average to to get to 69%.

Most of his games and passes have came when the game was out of reach and teams had given up. No judgement either way. Just saying

No, because their starter declared for the draft, the backup was dismissed on child porn charges, and Jack Miller is their only scholarship QB currently.

Is that all - don't some people declare and then find out where they are supposed to be drafted and end up staying in college?

You are forgetting that I have seen Mr. Hooker play and I have seen Mr. Milton play. No amount of slicing and dicing can overcome what I have seen with my own two eyes. No disrespect to Milton, but Hooker had the 2nd best qb rating in the NCAA - and Mr. Milton has not been very consistent. So an A + rating for Hooker and a C + rating for Milton. Hooker sometimes stayed up all night studying defenses reminiscent of Peyton Manning. Very few Hookers out there, but we desperately need Milton to continue to improve. C+ qb play will cost you games in this league.

63% 2022. Just give it up dude and take your L. You look dumb as usueal. He may never get to deadly accurate but then again he may. If he gets to 65% he will be fine. But whatever man keep spouting your idiocy. Dude what he did at Michigan is completely irrelevant. By you bringing that up it shows your BS narrative. Go away troll.

He didn’t play any snaps against our difficult opponents. He torched a supposedly good Mizz defense. But this bowl will reveal a lot about him, especially if we are without Hyatt.

I put less stock in the "difficult opponents" aspect, since Milton's problem has always been missing wide open guys down the field. It doesn't matter if the opponent is good or bad, if the WR is open, he's open. And if you can hit open WRs against lesser opponents, you can hit open WRs against good opponents. With Heupel's offense, there are going to be wide open WRs, regardless of opponent. You have to hit them, though.

Now one aspect that might come into play wrt starting a game vs. closing it...he might be too hyped up when he's playing the meaningful minutes vs. the mop up minutes. So maybe he relaxes during mop up time and throws with more touch, rather than being hyped up and throwing a 98 mph fastball 10 feet over the WR. He's going to get a chance in a meaningful game against future NFL players in 18 days, though.

I was at the vandy game and the pass to Fant is one that every SEC quarterback needs to complete.

There's prob more to this than meets the eye. In the short span he started, your scenario certainly holds more than a gallon of water. He has always looked far better coming off the bench. Works in MLB as well. More than one struggling starter found new life as a reliever or closer.

This whole thread is pretty much just people debating Milton.

I haven't read through the whole thing, but it seems like an unimportant debate. Milton has already blown his free transfer and is on his last year of eligibility, right? So he's stuck whether we take another QB or not. At least that's how I understand the rules...

So he couldn't redshirt a year?
