Sam Hartman (Wake Forest transfer)

Most seem to think that Milton is going to step into a HH offense and everything is going down as it has this year.

My thoughts are that we will see a different offense next year designed to fit Milton vs HH. How much different is the question to be asked.

CJH is going to figure and design an offense based on the quality, talent and capability of his QB. I look to him to figure it out before next season and for us to get a preview of it in the Orange Bowl.

Should be interesting and now that Milton is the man and having HH to assist in this move is going to a plus. 3 weeks is a long time to prepare can't wait to see.
So where was this altered game plan when Milton started last year? Surely he knew a lot about Milton prior to bringing him on to be the starter from Michigan? Surely he had tape? Okay, perhaps he hadn't seen that from Milton in practice. Let's say that he was surprised by that. After game 1, why not alter the plan to do what Milton does best? At that point, why did he not make the changes to that scheme and keep Milton as the starter instead of turning to Hooker? I'm not trying to diss Milton or bust balls here, but it seems like we're ignoring the elephant in the room on this one. Maybe that's just Milton? Maybe we're trying to convince ourselves that he gonna be a really good QB next season. Do you want to take the chance that he's not? What if he's hurt or TJ transfers? Program can't afford to take too big a step back. We need to keep the momentum going. If you can rent a guy you know can get it done at this level and fits your system, you'd be nuts not to do it. Too much to lose. One other thing. We lose Tilman and probably Hyatt. One would think WRs would be beating a path to play in this offense but so far that's not the case. Why? Fielding offers? Certainly. But isn't it possible that there's a question about our QB situation? Doesn't matter how much a WR gets open if the QB can't get him the ball. Appreciate Milton but we need to cover our arses at QB.

So you are going to write a book about the first 2 games last season and assume no adjustments and improvements have been made.
I thought more highly of you until you spew this crap. So much speculation in this post, "Let's Say" really.
We have no idea what we will lose and Who will stay. CJH has a pretty good track record with offenses and their output, but yet you seem to speculate to the negative side of my thoughts which is speculation as well. Time will tell, but it is not hard to speculate that things will change under Milton and CJH will build around his strengths and the WRs as well. Not hard to visualize. By the way we are not taking a chance that ship sailed last year. Furthermore, I don't have any reason to believe he hasn't already improved.

Pipe dream, but I'd still take Hartman. I'd much rather roll into next fall with him at QB than Milton.
Me too. I’d absolutely take Hartman over Milton. I think after the third or fourth game Milton will be pulled. Milton is no good i mean why did Michigan discard him so easily? I don’t know why so many on here think he’s going to suddenly be a great QB next season. He is what he is at this point and that’s a career backup not a starting SEC QB.

I guess for the same reason Hooker became good

I sincerely hope you're correct and I'll happily eat my typed words. Honestly, if Milton were a young player, I'd not have typed that reply. I'm of the opinion that with the amount of time and coaching he's had at this level, if he were capable of taking his game to where we all hope it will be, he'd have done it by now. Having spewed all that, it isn't impossible that Milton will finally become the QB his physical tools lead us to believe he can be. My point is that we really can't take the chance. If we get a shot at a guy who we know we can count on, I say take him and let the fight for the starting job begin. If Milton's the man, he'll certainly take the job next year and we've simply strengthened our QB room and have a tremendous backup in case disaster strikes again in the form of injuries.

I would say that Milton's issue is timing and getting enough reps. I will not go to last year or the 6 games he has been in this year. Hooker has probably shared some insight as well. With TJ here for a year and Nico coming in I will take my chances with both before I bring another QB in and train him on a new system. We might as well get our Money's worth with Nico if something happens to Milton. Loyalty works both ways and Milton is the guy until he isn't. You bring in a QB and yes he may step up but it will cause some concern. Milton is going to be fine and it is best to let CJH work through this than us Arm Chair Fans coach the team. (myself included).

I must have missed that day that he was accurate, surely it was against top tier competition. Unfortunately, Joe's overthrows and errant throws are often and occasionally epic. He does have a strong arm.

This year he is at 63%. Deadly accurate? No. 7 TDs with zero INTs. Avg 13 yards per pass. Like always you fail. Doesn’t matter who he is throwing against. He has increased his accuracy. But hey keep on with you wacko opinions.

You bring up the one big negative in my approach...loyalty. That's something that my suggestion might really hurt. What would it say to the team if we did get another QB? Might hurt chemistry or they might see the same things and feel the move is justified. It's certainly a concern and gamble.

I think that he would be enormously better if he wasn’t always out to show off his arm and throw the deep ball every chance he gets, which he rarely hits. Take that off the table, and he’s probably really good statistically on paper.

56 % career at Michigan
56 % career at Tennessee

That by anyone's definition is not deadly accurate. You can cherry pick all the stats that you want but at the end of the day - he hasn't proven to be deadly accurate, nor has he been able to as a result maintain drives that lead to scores. He was replaced as a starting qb at Michigan, he was replaced as starting qb at Tennessee largely because he wasn't deadly accurate. He has improved and has proven to be a great teammate, but he may never fall into the category of deadly accurate as much as you want him to. I hope he will become deadly accurate, if so, he will play on Sundays.

I really think it is sad that some of you are throwing Milton under the bus.
What some fail to realize, or choose to ignore is that Milton is very comparable to Josh Allen. Saying that he won't suddenly become more accurate is a false narrative. He has proven to be much more accurate this season. The argument that he is somehow more accurate against lesser competition or in garbage time is also a false narrative. Extremely inaccurate QB's might have a good game, but not display accuracy a majority of the time. Based on this season, Joe was off on the deep ball in one game (in pouring rain), yet very accurate in every other appearance (against defensive starters). Some formed their bias against Milton last season, and refuse to let it go. It's odd that so many "fans" would root for him to fail though.

The difference now is that he's THE man. No mop ups. He's the starter and it's all in his hands. No looking over his shoulder. I can see it going either way. He relaxes and just plays which improves his touch and accuracy or it's overwhelming and he's the same Joe Milton. I'll be very, very interested to see how he performs. Sadly, it will be against a top shelf defense on a huge stage. Hate that he doesn't get more time to adjust to his new position on this team, but when the chips are down, leaders take control. Let's see what's inside Joe Milton and how he handles this tough situation. At this point, it's his team and his job to lose.

The bowl game isn't a make or break game. I hope he plays lights out in the Orange Bowl, but it's not all on him. If we win, it will be because of a total team effort. I'd like to see him play a smart game and take what the defense gives him and be opportunistic with the deep ball.

Very true, but if he struggles and looks like he did in his early starts last year, I would have to believe that it might get the coaching staff turning an even bigger eye toward QBs in the portal.

Because they have their version of Milton as their starting QB. Sometimes plays great - other times head scratching time.

No, because their starter declared for the draft, the backup was dismissed on child porn charges, and Jack Miller is their only scholarship QB currently.

I’d love to see Tennessee win because of a lights out performance by the defense. That would make me feel better about next year than a lights out performance by Milton, since I think Heupel will figure out the QB situation, one way or another.
