And, after that you paid your entire way? Or, did you have some sort of guardian who paid for **** without providing a credible threat that they would revoke room and board from you if you failed to make your bed?

I was taken in by my Grand Father he owned a small water cress farm...He died in 1978 more or less pennyless I was 16. He drank and gambled HARD

I went to work at Druthers a burger joint and moved in with a friend stayed in my Van some..got a drum set .. Joined a band at age 19...Booking agent out of Atlanta Ga.

And right now I make 80k a year...did it on my own with no hand outs!!!

Well, other than your friend offering you a free place to stay.

Also, you never answered the question as to whether or not you went to private school or were home-schooled (since, I seem to recall, you stated that you did not receive a public education).

Sorry to hear that. but no kid should be left to starve because their parents suck. I see ur points here but the kids should never be neglected.

There is no point in shaming the kids and this is where the outrage lies, for me. However, there is no reason why the school district or the food service company should eat the costs. And, since education is a legal right in this country, there is no effective way to ensure that the parents do pay for the lunches.

I do think that the egg and carton of milk approach is a good approach; however, I think it could be done in a manner that is not shameful (e.g., have the child eat their lunch in the secretary's office, where they are not around the other children).

That would still be shaming the children.

I dunno, I have mixed feelings about this. I don't like shaming the kids for the failure of their parents, but you certainly can't shame an "affluent" kid and then not do the same to a child who gets automatic free lunches. If school board or company institutes this rule, it ought to be consistent.

I don't see any reason black kids shouldn't get free lunches, after all they built for this country as slaves. Its only fair.

Close to Bluefield Va and Piney Flats TN

And, the fact that both VA and TN have had compulsory education laws on the books since 1908 and 1905, respectively, affected your life in no way? You positively dodged any schooling?
