Scotty Hopson

Texas...when did they get involved with him????? They werent even mentioned previously. Hope this kid is not another Chris Singleton recruiting nightmare waiting to happen. Beginning to look that way to me.

Just because he is adding schools doesn't make it a Singleton situation. Singleton's situation was steered by his AAU coach in an attempt to get him into FSU. He'd be a Vol right now if it wasn't for his coach.

yes, you are right...it doesn't mean it is. however, it doesn't mean it isn't, either. the main factor in the Singleton situation was that they were shopping for a deal. from what i can tell, that's what Scotty's people are doing also. just a little different deal.

If we get him, it must have been my efforts at the KOB tournament in Louisville that put us over the top. :eek:k:

I have a friend who knows Chris well and she told me it was because he wanted to go to school with Pierre Jordan who also goes to Dunwoody High.

Hopson's Blazers went on the road and beat Madisonville last night to improve to 14-3. Hopson and Edmonson both had 25 and, according to newspaper reports and first hand accounts from people who attended, were pretty much unstoppable. That is particularly impressive for Edmonson, who was matched up all night with Madisonville's Jon Hood, ranked the 39th best Jr. in the country by Rivals. The consensus seems to be that Edmonson outplayed him on both ends of the court. Hood had 19, most of them late.

Louisville and UK both had assistants there.

We really need Hopson in my oppinion..
I really dont see why he'd pick Louisville or Kentucky over UT in my oppinion..
Bruce has gotta tell him to be the first mcDonalds All American that he's ever coached..

Tony Jones was there last night as well. Kansas is now involved and it looks like Tennessee, Kansas, Texas will be there in the end with Louisville having an outside small chance. Tennessee still in thr drivers seat and will be tough to beat. Would be a huge pickup.

Now onto Edmondson, everyone seems to think he is a great player with big time potential. Very athletic, good stroke, and can handle the ball well. With Tony there it will be interesting to see if we pursue him. It was reported a while back we were recruiting him and MAY have offered.

I kind of doubt we have offered him. When I saw Pearl back in the summer, the UHA coach was trying desperately to "package" Hopson and Edmonson to get Ty a better offer; Pearl was absolutely, unequivocably not interested at that time.

I'm not saying things haven't changed; Ty is playing well, and his stock seems to be rising. However, I think the moment an SEC caliber school offers him will be exactly one moment before he commits.

We could certainly use a backup PG for next season. If there isn't another PG out there for us, it may be worth taking both Hopson and Edmondson, especially if somebody else offers to take the package. But, like I said earlier, I'm not a scout. Bottom line: I want Hopson!

if we take both of them, we wont have a scholly for the next year. And next years in-state recruits are ridiculous

I just want to clarify that it wasn't Hopson that was trying to package the two; it was last year's UHA coach (there is a new coach this year.) Hopson, after all, committed to MSU without Edmonson, and I don't know if Ty getting an offer would have any influence on Scotty's ultimate decision.

My point in bringing that up was that, at least this summer, Pearl was not prepared to offer Edmonson, and Edmonson was having a little trouble getting legitimate interest from SEC-quality schools.

I am not questioning you at all, but I did read on catspause that Hopson wanted to play with Edmondson. I know...catspause, but that subject's not something that someone would lie about or be delusional over. I understand that Hopson committed to MSU, but his readiness to go to a major program without Edmondson may change if someone offers to take the package.

We are using 12 of the 13 allowed scholarships this season. We have three seniors and two signees. That puts us at 11 for next season. If we sign two more recruits, we will max out at 13. Childress is a senior next year, so we do have a scholarship for the Class of '09. We can also expect Tyler Smith to leave early in '09, if not this year, so that's at least two scholarships for '09.

It certainly can't hurt the recruitment of one player to sign a teammate. I just wanted to point out that I haven't heard that it is an influence from anyone currently involved in Hopson's recruitment, only from a coach that is no longer involved in the process.

Catspause is often a source of good information. The trouble is, the good stuff is burried in the mountains of unsubstantiated garbage that regularly appears there.

I DO NOT believe Tyler Smith will leave after this year!!

I happened to be sitting next to his high school coach at the WKU game in Nashville. His feeling and hope is that you are correct, and Tyler leaves after the 2008-09 season.

I wasn't there, but word is Hopson received two techs in a game last night and was ejected. That carries an automatic suspension for the next game, which I believe will be in the Class A tournament(althought I'm not sure whether it is for the entire game or a half.)

I don't think it really means anything, but it is the closest thing I have to news so I'm posting it. If the paper has any other information I'll update after it comes out.

Clarification: according to the paper, Hopson received one technical for hanging on the rim after his fourth or fifth consecutive dunk, and another for taunting a player after blocking a shot. They were both "rule book" technicals, according to his coach, and it sounds an awful lot like some tasty Western Kentucky home cooking (the game was at Hopkins Central.) He scored 16 in a loss despite not playing in the second half.

Scotty will be suspended for the next game, which is a regular season game at Danville. The Class A tournament starts on 1/22.

Here is the report from a catspause poster:

Scotty Hopson ejected
I went to the Hopkins County Central vs UHA game and i have a question for someone familiar with high school basketball rules.

When you dunk a basketball are you allowed to hang on the rim to prevent falling on another player to prevent injury?

On Scottys first technical it was a dunk with Centrals starting 5'3 point guard directly under him. He held on to the rim for what seemed like 1-2 seconds to avoid falling on him and the ref immediately gave out the tech.

The second one was another weird one. Towards the end of the second quarter Scotty went up and was blocked by Centrals center and that person showed some emotion after a nice play. Which seemed to get Hopson excited. The next play down the floor Hopson completely swatted someone very badly and didn't get in anyones face or anything but said something. I'm not a lip reader but it looked like come on boy. Again instant tech and was out of the game.

The ref just seemed like he wanted to show Hopson that he wasn't gonna get away with anything at all because there was all kinds of talk going on out there a lot from the Central side.

From what i saw from Hopson in mostly 2 quarters hes a freak athletically. Made a couple very good passes. Played team ball, didn't show off, showed effort on defense (ecspecially after he got a couple dunks in). I didn't see the attitude at all in a game he was ejected. His biggest weakness to me looked like ball handling and it wasn't terrible just not great either.
