Judging by this thread, geography isn't a strong suit of many... especially those who think WVU makes more natural SEC sense than Clemson. I'm attaching a link where you can play around and see just how far Morgantown is (almost Pennsylvania) from every SEC school they would play.
Their closest three trips: 5 hours (Lexington) 6 and a half hours (Knoxville) 8 hours (Nashville)
Consider that UT only travels more than 4 and half hours for one divisional game (Florida)
Driving Directions from Morgantown, West Virginia to Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Also, bear in mind that West Virginia seceded from the Commonwealth because it didn't want to be a part of the South... thus cutting off key railroad supply routes that proved detrimental to the cause.
If the Big 10 expands to 16 teams...and that seems to the be point of discussion on Rivals Radio today, you'd better believe that the SEC is going to expand too as well as the Big 12. Especially if the Big 10 manages to strongarm Notre Dame into joining. If we do expand, I understand where some of our fans would want beatable teams, but we'd likely take on teams that give us (the SEC) access to large markets, generate revenue, and/or just seem like a natural fit with the conference...the most important ones being the first two.
The Big 10 would naturally go after Rutgers & Syracuse. I don't think that the SEC has any realistic shot of landing any desirable program in the northeast. If we were to spread into other regions, I'd rather spread west and take TCU if the Big 12 doesn't.
Clemson and GT would be natural locks. Louisville would be good IMO. I would let Arkansas walk if the Big 12 came calling. It would make sense to add another school from Florida. Lesser, beatable teams to consider would probably be Tulane & Memphis I would think.
Umm? A cause everyone is glad worked out the way it did. I hope your not saying you wish things turned out the other way...
I don't think geography is a huge deal anymore. These big universities can afford to fly to games, and WVU already makes trips to UConn, S.Fl, L'ville, Rutgers, and Cuse.
