sec expansion (merged)

Reasoning?
They wanted out, they can stay the Hell out. Any AD who votes to allow those clowns back into the league should be fired immediately. The league has done just fine without the five fans in Atlanta who actually give a damn about Tech.

The reason that Tech left the SEC was because of Alabama's rogue attitude. Maybe they knew about Bama's antics before the rest of us caught on. I would take Tech back in a heart beat.

Only two SEC teams would make sense for the Big 10. Kentucky and Tennessee, but that would never happen. Those two teams would get enough media in the south to make the Big 10 a predominant national conference. Those two states border more states than any other states in the union.

Five? Thats pretty optimistic. I have travelled to that city for business dozens of time, and I have yet to see anyone associated with GT in any form or fashion.

The SEC would benefit none whatsoever with GT joining.

That would be great imho!! I live 2 hours away from Morgantown, so I would get to see the Vols play "locally" everyother year!! Only downside would be arguing with all the delusional WVU fans over playing!!

In my perfect world the east would drop vandy and add va tech, ga tech, and Miami. The west would drop miss state and add Texas, TCU, and La Tech. (I am a student at La Tech so I'm a little biased)

How about just one conference....conference winner is national champion.

Of course we'll have about 15 co-national champions but hey...

The whole idea of expansion hinges on what The Big 10 does, they aren't taking any teams from the SEC, geographically it wouldn't make sense.

Seems as though they may try and add from The Big East and maybe The Big 12.

Every team has punitive stipulations for schools that try and bail on them, The Big East had to learn the hard way when Va. Tech, Miami, and Boston College bounced. They now have regulations that would make it difficult for a team to leave...5 million dollars and a 27 month notice.

If they wanted to make this happen ( The Big 10, that is ) by 2012, they will have to act quickly ( this summer ).

I personally hope that they add Notre Dame, that way they can have a conference championship game and Notre Dame can quit sliding by on name alone.

If they do add more than 1 team, it would change the landscape of college football, as other BCS conferences would look to follow The Big 10.

I hope this doesn't come to fruition.

I don't have any reason to think it is even being considered, but exactly why wouldn't Kentucky fit in the Big 10?

I don't see that it would hurt them in football or basketball. And geographically, UK wouldn't be any worse of a fit than Penn State is.

Just heard on the herd that if the big 10 exands the SEC also will expand to 16? I know there are already threads on this but I can only Search back so far from my phone. Anywho what you guys know about this blaspheme?

Well I think the conference is great the way it is but if the SEC has to do something to keep up then I "think" I would like to see Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. Then possibly Fsu and Miami? That would crush and be the end of the ACC but you gotta do what you gotta do to lookout for your own best interest.

I actually like the idea of expansion for the SEC. I've heard rumors that the Pac-10 are looking to expand in addition to the Big 10. This is somewhat contingent on Notre Dame finally joining a conference...but for the SEC every conference wants what we are getting which is the big bucks from ESPN. If expansion does happen then yeah we should be willing to accept a few ACC schools or even Texas/Oklahoma...why not? The SEC brand is the best in the country and conferences trying to get in on it obviously have to be treated like competition because it's ultimately about the all-mighty dollar!

Besides, what TV market does Clemson bring to the table?

A rather large TV market. The Greenville-Spartanburg-Asheville-Anderson TV market is 35th largest in the US. By comparison, Knoxville doesn't make the top 50 and Memphis is #44. Also behind Greenville: New Orleans, Birmingham, San Antonio, OK City and Vegas. This is based on # of households.

If you can put up with all the Clampson fans, the upstate of SC is a great place to live.

no Ga Tech. They had their chance and blew it. Sorry.

If we got Miami and FSU, we wrap up the entire state of Fla which is a large tv market.

Rather have Clempson than VaTech. At least Clempson has a established fb tradition. VaTech is still relitively new overall.

Texas and Texas A&M would be a big coup getting that eastern Tx market. Plus they fit in well with both fb and bb. Not sure how happy they'd be to have to travel half way across the country to play a game.

The ACC isn't going to break up...The big 12 isn't going to break up...ACC teams aren't going to jump ship to come to the SEC....the only conference that is close to imploding is the big East and if that were to happen THOSE teams would be split up among the top area conferences...The Big 10, the ACC and the SEC....You are getting your hopes up if you honestly believe that Clemson or GT or Miami or FSU would leave the ACC to come to the SEC...That's crazy...Simply crazy....GT shouldn't even be mentioned after they left the SEC years ago...The best case for the SEC would be to pick up West Virginia and Louisville after the big east falls apart...Texas and the rest of the big 12 shouldn't even be mentioned in this discussion as I do not EVER see that happening...But hey you can play in fantasy island if you want...But at least be realistic and logical about it...Some of the stuff on here is completely hilarious

oh, youre probably right but as least the teams I've mentioned are better than some of the other losers out there. I'd rather be on the side of upgrading the conference not settling for what's out there.

The conference doesn't need any upgrading...The SEC is the most dominate conference in america....Can't upgrade being the best

so when all the chips start falling, your position is to stay put.

This is all like a big game of spoons. One person grabs the spoon and then another will and before long its a free fall to grab spoons.

If and when the freefall starts, I'd rather be proactive and get competetive teams than let them fall to another conference. If we do nothing then we're a great conference that allowed other conferences to get better and eat away at our dominance.

This stuff is hitting close to what I said in another thread about the SEC vs. Big Ten. The Big Ten is a much more attractive conference for team because they offer schools the most money. Period. With the Big Ten Network the conference has more money than any other for its schools. Plus they offer offer revunue sharing, and lots of the money goes to the school's research department. As most of the Big Ten schools are major research instututions. May not seems like much, but it means a lot to the school presidents who willultimately make the decisions. Also, Notre Dame has no impact on this stuff, at least to the Big Ten. It is very real possibility that Texas could jion the Big Ten and its all about money. the Big 12 does offer revenue sharing and Texas earned the most of all Big 12 schools last year at close to $20 Million. The Big Ten offers revenue sharing and every school took home close to $25 Million. Imagine if Texas and a few others jion up that number could jump to nearly $30 million per year for each school. You cant ignore those numbers. The SEC will never be able to compete financially with the Big Ten. The SEC is an awesome conference, but they cant bring in the bucks of the Big Ten.

FL. St. would hop on the SEC in a haert beat to get out of the ACC. They play one team a year that anyone cares about - FL. They would love to get in there with Ga AU LSU all would be better then BC Va Md. The ACC has killed FL ST.
