SEC Presidents have Blocked A&M from coming to the SEC

Really interesting. I've heard talk about the "legal issues" and such but hadn't seen it broke down like that.

And I'm confused about Fox. Says it shows no games but who owns FSS? Pretty sure SEC games come on there.

Isn't FSS fox sports south? I know there's a Fox Sports Midsouth (Cardinals games tend to come on there)

My understanding is that Texas A&M must first announce it's intentions to leave the Big 12, before the SEC will extend an offer to join the SEC. The SEC wants to avoid a lawsuit for basically tampering with another conference's member under that is under contract with them.

Under the terms of the Big 12's contract with ESPN and FOX, the league requires 10 members to survive and fulfill the terms of the contract. That is why the Big 12 has been trying to keep A&M and find a replacement soon-as well as try to keep Missouri in the fold.

Once A&M divorces the Big 12, it can receive an offer to join another conference and take it's action to accept it. Of course, that offer can come from the Pac 10, the Big 10, or from the SEC. I can not see the SEC backing off and allowing one of these other conferences to jump in and take over the footprint that the SEC would really like to have in Texas.

I would surmise that the agreement has been made in aback room between surrogates from the two parties on how things will shake out from here.

I also tend to believe that the SEC has a 14th member lined up and that it would be Missouri. Missouri wanted to join the Big 10 a year ago, but it was not ready to tale on another member at the time. The Tigers want out and have been among the most vocal dissenters of the LHN and the bogarting of the Big 12 pot of gold that has caused this breakup.

And you don't want the state of Texas or the Big 12 suing the SEC for like....i don't know almost billion dollars

(thinking high here....these are already nearly hundreds of millions of dollars tv contracts)

The suit would be in the hundreds of millions.

The sec presidents are just covering their bases. Anybody that thinks this means the deal is dead has no idea what theyre talking about. This is still very likely to happen.

Statement From Dr. Bernie Machen > SEC > NEWS

“The SEC Presidents and Chancellors met today and reaffirmed our satisfaction with the present 12 institutional alignment. We recognize, however, that future conditions may make it advantageous to expand the number of institutions in the league. We discussed criteria and process associated with expansion. No action was taken with respect to any institution including Texas A&M.”

-Dr. Bernie Machen, Chair, Southeastern Conference Presidents and Chancellors

Why do I now feel that every time Chip Brown reports something, everything ends up getting worse?

He is a very contradicting reporter......but atleast he's not the only guy reporting that.

That's not going to happen. Someone is plan ting disinformation. A&M would not be sticking it's neck out if the SEC had not guaranteed them entry.

From everything I have read it was A&M that came to the SEC because they are desperate to get out of the Big 12. It's a chance they had to take to get out of UT's shadow.

It is all explained by Tim Brando. CYA for the SEC. Our President and AD both have said things to the media in the last few days that make it obvious that we are leaving. The only thing to stop us is the law, or timing.

I would not be surprised if we have to wait until 2013 so a 14th team can work out the details for their own exit.

The one thing no one remembers is that the big12 is doomed. What school would pass an offer for equal revenue in another conference? One of those big12 north teams will bolt soon.

Wow TrueOrange, That really was spot on.

I didn't realize this: "Now, imagine how much those deals would be worth if the population of the SEC's geographic footprint suddenly increased by 42 percent."

The current nine-state SEC footprint contains 58.6 million people. The state of Texas contains 25.1 million, and is growing.

I suppose I see why ESPiN paid so much for the longhorn network.
