SEC Tournament Cancelled

This. We could save tens of thousands of lives every year if we shut down everything but that doesn't seem to matter.

We have a vaccine for the flu. A majority of the pediatric deaths this year with the flu were non-vaccinated kids. There is a tool out there that can mitigate the flu virus. It doesn't exist right now with corona.

You really think the tournament is going to happen?? Lol...
It will probably be canceled, but if the directives were coming from the government, why would all of these tournaments be being canceled at different times? Isn’t the more likely answer that it’s because each conference commissioner is making an individual decision, the same the NCAA will need to make soon?
I should stop engaging with a conspiracy theorist

This is exactly what I am talking about...yes, there is no vaccine (yet) but not everyone who gets covid-19 dies. There are numerous treatments being used and the vast majority of patients are recovering from covid-19 everyday (and many people around the world have likely had covid-19 and DID NOT EVEN KNOW based on data from South Korea which indicates the mortality rate is <1% and their daily new cases peaked and has been in decline for over a week now).

I am not even going to get into the fact that each season the flu vaccine only picks the right viral strain of the flu about 30-40% of the time.

Or someone who knows what they are talking about...

NBA cancelled
SEC cancelled
I go home for lunch, turn on tv and
Live telecast of Arkansas high school basketball finals
Big crowd and not a single word about coronavirus
same in Illinois -- HS BB not cancelled, but never know we got a buffoon Democrat governor spouting off about stuff

For real. Like most people can't just up and quit their jobs and stay inside their home for the next month or 2. It's beyond dickheadish to take more supplies than you realistically need because you're a "doomsday junkie. ".
Or fighting with a fat woman at Walmart for a 24 pack of TP.

Why is that a surprise? They can’t read in Arkansas.

I was upset I was going to miss seeing my first game all season today and tomorrow (if we win) due to being at a sales meeting in Portugal this week.....

Thankfully the meeting was moved to Chicago, though I still would have missed the game.

The corona isn't going away in 30 days or 60 days or 6 years, it's out in the populace now. So what are they gonna do, cancel all public events from now till they get a vaccine developed? What if the vaccine is 3 or 4 years away? Oh me!!!

Events with a large amount of people are NEVER a good idea if you want to prevent the transmission of any airborne illness...lol. And, does it seem rational that 2 people is what took it over the top?!?!?

As I stated in another post, we waited until ~1,000 people were DEAD with the swine flue before we even declared a national emergency and ~60 MM caught it with ~300 k people hospitalized.

It is just precaution. But, yes, do you think other NBA players want to play against a team whose 2 players have tested positive?

Rick Barnes stated this morning that his players didn't want to play and were somewhat scared of the situation. No reason to go through that at this point.

I'm not saying I disagree with cancelling sporting events but I am curious as to why we are treating this virus differently than we did with the 2009-2010 H1N1 outbreak. There were an estimated 12,000 H1N1 related deaths in the US and between 150,000 and 575,000 worthwide.

No, of course, not everyone dies. But even doctors will tell you that it's the fear of the unknown. Like I said, it's just precaution. It's best to limit exposure, and the hope is everything gets back to playing soon.

But the flu vaccine, whether it hits correctly or not, still mitigates any flu virus.

I think most NBA players would play because when they ask the medical professionals what their risk is they would be accurately told they are not at risk of dying or even becoming seriously ill and would experience flu like symptoms most likely mild symptoms lasting a few days (which, they are already at risk of...lol). Also, I remember back when Magic was diagnosed with AIDS and not a single game was stopped and Isaiah actually hugged and kissed him on the cheek before the game if I remember correctly.

The broader issue you hit on is our players not wanting to play which is driven by the irrational fearmongering of this issue.

Might not miss all the sports events too much. It’s almost as much fun watching all the conspiracy nuts and deniers coming out of the woodwork. Pay attention to the scientists and not your cousin Bubba, you dummies. This thing is spreading, a lot of people with medical conditions are in real danger and THERE IS NO VACCINE OR CURE. The only way to slow it down is limit exposure as best you can until they can come up with a cure or it abates on its own. Not sure why that is so hard to understand.

But it’s not about the players risk. It’s about their risk to expose more high risk people they interact with on a daily basis, such as Rick Barnes. He is in the risk age group of over 60.

So does being healthy and practicing proper hygiene...lol. Getting the vaccine just guarantees you are getting a mild case of the flu at least once and, too often, twice.

Now, of course, if you are someone who is at-risk then that is a different story.

If just one NBA player doesn't want to play, then you have a problem. There are also liability issues. You keep playing and God forbid, a player does get seriously ill. Everyone reacts differently. You just can't say that "they are all young and can deal with it." Well, there are some coaches in the NBA who are 60+.

Not sure why you would compare this to HIV. You have to exchange bodily fluids for that- not just come into contact with someone. That's not a good example.
